There's very little true country now days. Nick13 who used to be a punk artist has a song called nighttime sky that's more country then most country now days which says something.
I find it interesting that the thing that makes Joel and others not like country music, that it doesn't change/innovate, is the very thing that many fans of the genre love. Country is one of the most resilient genres, and it has maintained its very signature sound that separates it from most other genres.
George Strait, Alan Jackson, George Jones, Willie Nelson, Tracy Lawrence, Brooks and Dunn, and many more from the early 2000s and before is real country music. Change my mind.
@@davarrashayde There are actually a lot, just not as popular as the pop country type stuff so they don't get the radio time or publicity. Music trends just like anything other type of trend change with time. It'd be like saying rock now a days isn't rock when compared to classic rock or comparing current pop songs to things from the 90s. Even when you look at say country music from the 50s for instance and compare that to 90s it's completely different sounds, so why is that all considered country, but not current hits?
Pardi is known as “western country”, he even mentions being on the west coast in the song. It tends to have more of a sort of beach boys twist. Not for everyone, but it’s really good at what it’s trying to be.
To go from Chris Stapleton to Sam Hunt seems like an insult to Chris Stapleton. Joel - let long time country music fans create you an ultimate list of new/old country hits, we can do better! Promise!
trouble is as someone who is **cough** years old (and also listens to music from before i was born. yeah lets say that instead) modern country isnt country. its pop music with a twangy guitar.
I’m disappointed that the person who emailed Joel didn’t put any Garth Brooks on the list. All country haters I’ve met have even said they like a few of his songs, and he’s like the peak of country music.
taigatan yeah I know. But if the person who said they’ve worked with country music for a long time didn’t include any good country artists than maybe they shouldn’t have that job
you should do this same thing with Really Heavy Metal Music! i can tell you don't listen to stuff like Metal but i can tell you their are sooooo many amazing Metal artists out there these days its insane!! Try Jinjer - Pisces Gojira - Silvera 2 really great examples of how metal is evolving Today!

These weren’t very good country songs, Johnny cash, Garth Brooks, Chris stspleton, George strait, patsy cline, willi Nelson not bro country pop country
Michael Womack I said the same thing. Honestly some newer artists like Colter Wall, Nick Shoulders, Charlie Crockett, Orville Peck, Garrett Owen, Shawn James, The Dead South would be really good to react to as well
The thing that people like about country music is that it always conserves some sort of tune that is somewhat nostalgic and similar to the stuff they grew up with because it’s not constantly evolving. It’s enjoyed because it doesn’t change much.
Joel: comments about country being the same and that’s why he doesn’t enjoy it as much Also Joel: enjoys standard pop music that usually has the same four chords.
Here's the thing, this list kinda sucked. If you really wanna listen to pure country this isn't it. Popular country music has had a pop flare for years now. However, she did say in her email she was gonna send recent radio played stuff, which is fair I get that, and I like new country also. But then she didn't even pick the best recent stuff! Like even the artists she picked have better songs than this!!!!
This list sounded like the country "expert?" was trying to curate songs she believes sound closer in line with what Joel and non-country fans would want to listen to. In hopes that it would win them over with more country/pop/synth "crossover" sounds. Even as a person who admittedly is not into country music by any means, I can tell that this list was somewhat misrepresenting its history and its unique strengths. I was sitting here asking myself most of the list: Are these songs even loosely considered country? To me, they mostly sounded like pop songs with a hint of a twang accent. Whether Joel ended up liking country music or not, this list would have better served the genre with at least a few more traditional sounding country songs.
You're honestly really right. My dad absolutely loves country... but not this stuff. Most of what we have today is, not to be mean but, what I like to call "rich-boy washed". Meaning every song is about, I got my heart broke, My truck, My beer, God, etc. and it comes from people that don't even live a country lifestyle. Like they live in LA and haven't worked a day of farm work in their life. There isn't anything wrong with that life... but to write a song about truck and working in your boots, when your boots cost $600... They just don't have much actual meaning anymore. Yeah music doesn't HAVE to have deeper meaning, but when a whole genre gets swept into "I exists for novelty and money"... it just doesnt feel good anymore. So as much as I enjoy modern country (last 10 years), My favorites will always be before 2012.
In defense of the guitar solo, for those I think who truly appreciate the art of guitars very much enjoy these solo because they know just how difficult it is.
Other songs to listen to- turnpike troubadours: Pay no Rent Cody Johnson: Ocean of whiskey (and lots of others of his) Aaron Watson: Freight Train (and some others) If you’re feeling bold with how traditional you’ll try- Colter Wall: Sleeping on the black top & Caroline
singers i want to see talked about -Janis Joplin -niel young -michal graves(misfits) -art garfunkel (simon and garfunel) -eddie vedder(pearl jam)-vocal solo at the end of jeremy -anthony keidas(red hot chili peppers) -grace slick these are a few of my favorrite vocalists of the expansive rock genre, they all sing with uniqe styles , and i have not seen a rock music video in a while
I feel like part of country music is you grew up on it and it's supposed to be farmilliar. That's the point. Just strait homey vibes. Update: I was so frustrated with this that I went and listened to old country songs, Jonny Cash, Dolly Parten, Tom T Hall. I cried. Thanks for that because I needed some good comfort in my life
How about the kings of Country Jonny Cash and Slim Dusty the 2 best country singers of all time alongside Walen Jennings or maybe even the Queen of Country Dolly Parton
Anyone who claims to "hate country music" really only hates post-9/11 patriotic tractor bro music. Trust me, everyone does. Play a timeless song like Jolene, Until He Cheats, any early Taylor Swift track, or... Any other country song and you never hear any country haters complain
- Friends in Low Places -- Garth Brooks - The Beaches of Cheyenne -- Garth Brooks - Thank Gosh I'm a Country Boy -- John Denver - The Lucky Ones -- Jack & Tim - The Dance -- Garth Brooks Great songs. I grew up in Texas and I'm a total country girl, so my taste is probably different, but you gotta hear these!
Chris Stapleton has an interesting story because tons of music producers told him he’d never have the voice for a music career and is now one of the biggest names
"Country doesn't evolve as fast as other genres" Hmmm a music genre that caters to traditionalism and conservatism doesn't change much, how strange 🤔 Joking aside, I'm not a big country fan either, but there are exceptions. My 90s/00s nostalgia brain decided to have "I Need You" by LeAnn Rimes stuck in my head all week, for example. However, my favorite country is the older stuff, where the blues and soul elements were still prevalent. Tennessee Whiskey is a great example, it originally came out in the 80s. As far as more modern acts go, there are a lot of contemporary smaller artists that have blended indie and folk with bluegrass and country, and that's the good sh*t. I just wanna live in the space between Nickel Creek and The Civil Wars.
Shoutout to Chris Stapleton, born in Lexington Ky, whose ancestors dating back 500 years listened too, played and sang country music on Saturday nights and Sunday mornings at Gospel church
I like that country music kind of keeps in it own lane. That’s what keeps it country. The suggestions just seemed like wanting country music to move toward the same sounds as pop/ hip-hop.

Incredibly true it still sounds way too pop, he should've listen to colter wall and maybe hank 3 even though he hasn't released an album since 2013 (even though the record company "curb" that he left in 2010 has released some of his older unreleased songs without his permission since then) so I don't know if he's still considered modern
And he best music pulls from the blues and soul
Cris Stapleton is overrated.
Change my mind
@@josephwebb5663 no

Okay. I demand a new video on country songs that are actually good. Here’s my list and now do another show using these songs:
1. Coat of Many Colors- Dolly Parton
2. Kiss an Angel Good Morning- Charley Pride
3. Man, I feel like a woman- Shania Twain
4. Girl Crush - Little Big Town
5. Blue - LeAnn Rimes
6. Coal Miners Daughter- Loretta Lynn
7. “Amen” - Eden’s Edge
8. If I Die Young - The Band Perry
9. Follow Your Arrow Wherever It Points - Kacey Musgraves
10. Crazy - Patsy Cline
Now react to these songs. Make the video. And This Irish boy is bother you until it’s done. Oh and if you have time, react to “People Break Up” by Hannah Belle… the actual video not the lyric video. Thanks! Love your show!
So his main critique on country is that it isn't pop enough. "It has a synth, that's innovation for the genre".
Country music? Did you mean: YEEHAW ACOUSTIPOP
NONE of them were real country singers except for Chris and......maayyybee Carrie
I LOVE ACTUAL country music and I also like hip hop, pop, jazz, and a little bit of rap but DEFINITELY NOT rock. I LOVE ELVIS PRESLEY!!!!!
Maybe new country would be considered acousticpop , older country, red dirt country, and outlaw country.
The only true country on this whole list was Chris Stapleton and Jon Pardi.
There's very little true country now days. Nick13 who used to be a punk artist has a song called nighttime sky that's more country then most country now days which says something.
I can sense the country vibes from Chris, love it.
I was thinking the whole time, since when has country become pop?
@@Downloadguy1995 Country has been pop since, shit, at least 10 years ago now
Pascal Russ since the 90's it's been pop music . And original country is bluegrass and folk
I find it interesting that the thing that makes Joel and others not like country music, that it doesn't change/innovate, is the very thing that many fans of the genre love. Country is one of the most resilient genres, and it has maintained its very signature sound that separates it from most other genres.
Day 4 of asking Joel to do a 16 levels of Never Gonna Give You Up
me: i don’t really like country music
*someone plays dolly parton*
me: *puts on cowboy hat and boots*
George Strait, Alan Jackson, George Jones, Willie Nelson, Tracy Lawrence, Brooks and Dunn, and many more from the early 2000s and before is real country music. Change my mind.
Jon Pardi, Chris Stapleton, Cody Jinks, Colter Wall. Just a few that are still doin it right.
Add some Reba and Randy Travis
I have to say i agree, there arent many current "country" songs that are ACTUALLY country anymore.
Even earlier than that, Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, Marty Robbins, none of them?
I was expecting to hear songs that weren’t top hits on the radio. Top radio hits don’t always make good songs.
To go from Chris Stapleton to Sam Hunt seems like an insult to Chris Stapleton.

Yoda Man my favourite country song is “he stopped loving her today” by George Jones
Im glad to see someone in this comment field who isn't saying that "Taylor Swift is country!!" Good on you, Yoda Man!
I’m disappointed that the person who emailed Joel didn’t put any Garth Brooks on the list. All country haters I’ve met have even said they like a few of his songs, and he’s like the peak of country music.
raishea 24 well if we are gonna be fair. Joel did not make the list. Someone esle made it for him. He just listened to what someone else picked
taigatan yeah I know. But if the person who said they’ve worked with country music for a long time didn’t include any good country artists than maybe they shouldn’t have that job
We need some Jason Aldean, Luke Combs, and Josh Turner in this video
you should do this same thing with Really Heavy Metal Music! i can tell you don't listen to stuff like Metal but i can tell you their are sooooo many amazing Metal artists out there these days its insane!! Try Jinjer - Pisces Gojira - Silvera 2 really great examples of how metal is evolving Today!

Avenged Sevenfold: The Stage
Meshuggah, Bleed
Jinjer, Pisces
Metallica, Master of puppets
Periphery, Mariegold
Arch Enemy, War Eternal
Slipknot, All out life
Behemoth, O father o Satan o sun
I think it would be cool if he listened to some metalcore like bring me the horizon(sempiturnal, that’s the spirit) and other metalcore bands like maybe some recent falling in reverse

Michael Womack I said the same thing. Honestly some newer artists like Colter Wall, Nick Shoulders, Charlie Crockett, Orville Peck, Garrett Owen, Shawn James, The Dead South would be really good to react to as well

They are trying to get at modern country not classic country, which is why they don't have those artists
Yeah as much of a pop person I am, I still have a soft spot for George Strait’s early stuff.
@@5tig_ its not modern its pop chris and jamey is the real modern
Chris Stapleton, absolutely. HOWEVER I honestly believe that no list is complete without at least one Garth Brooks song.
The thing that people like about country music is that it always conserves some sort of tune that is somewhat nostalgic and similar to the stuff they grew up with because it’s not constantly evolving. It’s enjoyed because it doesn’t change much.
EXACTLY!! I love this genre because of the fact that I grew up on it and it gives me so much nostalgia to listen to it
Joel: comments about country being the same and that’s why he doesn’t enjoy it as much
Also Joel: enjoys standard pop music that usually has the same four chords.
Exactly

Joking aside, I'm not a big country fan either, but there are exceptions.
