This is the best step by step video I've seen on here. Most people do it and then video themself telling you how they did it instead of literally showing you how they did it. Thank you for this
We are in the process of putting in a small pool and this video was a big help on how to level the sand and get the base set properly. Thanks for the video!
Glad it was helpful!
12” inch deep below ground base is more stable. Though that’s what I did with an INTEX 48” deep x 18’. Also converted the filter with a sand filter. Really nice pool for plug & play.
Thanks for this. I didn't learn these skills as a kid and at my age I can't ask.
Ahhh. The good ol ‘test ya marriage’ project lololol. We barely made it through it lolol. Hissin and spittin because SOMEBODY doesn’t have any internal or external vision 😂
It was a for sure a test your marriage moment. LOL
Looks like Y'all are doing a good job leveling the sand for the pool. Can't wait to see the finished project. It's almost that time. GOD BLESS Y'ALL.
Have had these types of pools for 5 yrs now, this summer we upgraded to an 18' from a 12'. It was 4" off, but it survived the summer. Tomorrow we r gonna attempt to relevel the ground. Lets hope threes a charm. Thanks for the inspiration
Great video! Thank you for taking the time to share
Glad it was helpful!
You are one busy family, grandads are always full of knowledge
Great Job Bubba! Looks great! I'm about to start my pad and I'm usually this to fo it!
Good luck!
Awesome😊
Great detail on almost all parts. Only thing I'm having trouble finding details on is the solar pad. Thanks for what you did help with.
That's a lot of work. I'm interested to see you put up the new pool.
This video still hits. Thanks my man.
It will be a lot cheaper and better if you would have got foam pad like r14 or higher and tape them together. That will keep the pool warmer and better flooring and moreover a lot cheaper and less cumbersome
Where do I find the foam pad you’re speaking of?
@@sherbeautyLowe’s or Home Depot have 4x8 foot sheets
If ground is not leveled. Will be shit
This is what I did. Works beautifully and feels great on the feet.
@@thefirmament1616 True for anyway you do it. Level is rule #1. I don't like to use sand for no other reason than it washes away during storms or if the pool springs a leak.
Great video guys thanks I'm planning on doing the same this year with our pool
Good luck!
It's going to be a good summer with a refreshing pool to jump in. 😊
This idea worked like a champ for us! Thank you for sharing. 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this video having a good hard time trying to get my sand level in one area. Hoping this tool, you made helps going to try and do the same or get close. I should have spent more time leveling it. But honestly, I spent over 4 days just shoveling sand and trying to get it level. Thank you for the concept.
Looking forward to the video with the pool up .
Looks good so far
Very good work, sir. I like the idea of having a little more substantial pivot point, with a firm bushing on the axle to fix the center point level. Otherwise, this was an awesome idea. Also, and I would like to hear from you guys on this: what do you think about having a bottom drain?. A skimmer is a poor method to efficiently filter pool water and we want or water to be clear, do we not?.
Thanks for the video!
This video was great
You need to put a cover over the ground. I literally had grass blades grow through my brand new pool liner.
If you have a rectangular pool I'd suggest framing it with some 4bys and make them LEVEL (very important), anchoring it with some rebar, then run a 2x4 with a small notch cut to slide over top of the frame.
Wasn't my idea, but it saves you some time.
Great tip!
Awesome video. Thanks fornthe ideas. God Bless you and your Family bro.😊
i did pretty much the same thing, but at the spike in the ground, I put two bricks underneath it so that would stay level
Great job.
What kind of sand is that?
Where I live at the concrete mill they have concrete mix sand, asphalt mix sand and septic sand. Just trying to get an idea of what to buy
Masonry sand.
That is definitely one of the better leveling contraptions I've seen - been watching a lot of videos. We're about to do this in the upcoming weekends. Thanks for the detailed video!
Glad it helped! Let us know how it turns out.
Where are you located? Are you near NE Oklahoma?
We are in North Texas, about 45 mins from the Oklahoma border
Do you guys have a winterizing guide for your pool??? First time owner
Love the concept of the conduit clamps. i have seen lots of videos of leveling. the only thing that i saw was possibly use a longer string or rope to pull it around. seemed like as you were pulling it the end of the board was coming up. could have caused some extra work on yourself, and may have caused the inside to be lower than the outside, like you explained happened. I am definately going to use the conduit clamp method.
Glad it helped!
Papa showed Tobin that when he was young, we put a small pool in the back yard
You need some sort of landscape edging to keep sand from eroding and sinking.
Yes, and a couple videos after this we showed adding the landscaping. 😉
The pad looks amazing. Great job. ❤
Do you have a video on your deck build?
Nice video . But question. Most above pools say building the pool on sand voids the warranty and increases collapses . Is there other options and why is sand preferred ?
That is a good question. I have never heard or read about that, but I will for sure look into it for now.
Other options would be those foam boards that are used for insulation. Or, if you are on ground that doesn't have a lot of rocks you could level that out, and put the pool down. This is our first year using sand, prior to that we always put a tarp down on the ground.
This may work for the Walmart specials but for a true above ground pool you dig out and level the dirt before adding sand. You NEVER build up with sand. It’s for under the liner only.
😊hi there awesome people😊
Curious to know if that thick of a layer will erode away over time?
There was very minimal erosion that happened. Everything is still pretty packed and tight .We a very rainy Spring, and there is till plenty of sand.
i like the square better n then put the round pool down
A weight towards the end would’ve helped with the leveling
How many tons of sand did you order for a 24' pool I know you said you ordered 5 yards of san but what was the total weight? Online it says 5 yards is about 9 tons for a pool...What type of sand did you use? Is there a reason you didn't put a liner down to stop foliage coming up from the bottom? I live in Florida we have a lot of weeds.
No idea on the weight. The company we ordered from had what they called "pool sand" so that's what we ordered. Any weeds under the sand will not be able to grow because they will not get sunlight.
@@OurTopPinLife nut grass doesn't need sun light to grow, thats the main one a lot of people here have. Thanks for your feedback.
Is that paver sand? I want to do this myself but still gather all the information I can.
When we called the company that delivered the sand, we asked for pool sand specifically. I just looked it up and paver sand is not recommended for leveling a pool.
@@OurTopPinLifeOkay. Thank you.
After leveling it using your own tilled ground, why add sand???
To have a smooth surface. If we tilled our ground and left it that way, we would have rocks and such under the pool.
Hope it works but I have my doubts.
That's too much sand and can wash out from under the pool.
Get the dirt level as possible. Dump sand in center and put up the wall with supports on block pads recessed in ground . Once the wall is up ... Then level with sand inside. Cope the corner inside and outside. And pack the sand .... Wet it and pack it
Install liner
Thanks for the input. We are a year in and we have had no issues with the sand washing out.
I put 1" foam board plus cover liner
Yes, I think the next one we do we may look into foam board
With the filter system that you have do you have to bond the pool?
No, that is not necessary. We use an extension cord from our outside outlet. Hope this helps!
@@OurTopPinLife yes this helps. Thank you so much. Enjoy your pool.
How did you attach board to center point?
Attached a d loop type bracket to the end of it, drove a stake in the middle of the pad, slid the d loop over the stake.
Enjoyed your video, as I was reading about Bestway they say not to use sand and I have heard similar comments. However, most people seem to use it and I would think with a firm border it would be okay, what's your opinion? I'm planning for the spring.
We have used a sand base with both our Coleman pools and haven't had any issues. We have to use some sort of soft base because we have rocks and black dirt. It would tear up the liner.
How much sand did u get dropped off
Is this an older video for setting up the Coleman ? Or did you take the Coleman down ?
We had to take the pool down. This video is from last weekend. We are putting up a new pool.
@@OurTopPinLife I literally just bought the same exact 24 foot Coleman this will be nice
Did you compact it after or just leave as is
Left it as is but the weight of the water compacts it when you fill it
Love the level, I did something similar but on a smaller scale as my pool is a 10x30, and I only had a couple of 1 ft levels and a 7 ft board so I zip tied 3 1ft levels to the board. One on each end and one smack dab in the middle.
How did you calculate the amount of sand needed?
Google it. There are tons of free websites that will do the calculations, you just have to put in your numbers.
I've researched this because I am putting up an 18' pool. My area is cleaned and rotor tilled. Still leveling.
From what I read sand should only be in a thin layer a thicker layer will cause footprints on the bottom as poile walk and compress the sand.
On liners, Amazon has a few armor-all, Gorilla and some brands I don't know. They also sell them cut to size and an extra thick one.
Most anything else for a liner is discouraged for multiple reasons.
I got my pool locally at Sam's club and want to get it up, but I should spend the $100 or so and wait for it to come, rather than rush to get it up.
The weight of the water will compress the sand much more than you would think. We had another pool in the past and only put down a very thin layer of sand, within a few years small rocks started coming up through the sand and eventually put holes in the liner.
What kind of sand do you use
The company that we bought from had "pool sand"
What kind of sand did you use?
The place we ordered from has pool sand, which is what we used. It is different than masonry sand.
How many yards do I need for 18x52
You would have to decide how high you want the sand then do the calculations.
I see you cut the rev seen cause I know he wasn't making it that first time
No tampering?
did you guys tamper at all? did the pool start to sink?
We did not. We probably should've, but overall everything stayed pretty compacted. The legs settled to the ground, but nothing has started to sink. Overall, the process has worked great!
@@OurTopPinLife yeah I'm just wondering because we had an issue where the ground wasn't level so we have to take the pool down and one side of the yard is about 4 in lower so we put in fill dirt and now we're having leveling issues so it is a pain. 😬
Did u put any blocks under the legs of yr pool. How did u fix it cause I'm having the same issue
@@amandathompson2205 after I tore everything down I ended up buying some blocks for the legs and leveled it out and it did help tremendously
Do u leave up all year round?
Yes
What’s the part number for the larger pump?
I don't have a part number, but I do know it is an Intec 3500 gph sand filter.
It should have styrofoam underneath.
How many tons of sand was that?
It was 4.5 cubic yards.
Be hot enough to swim soon
Nice, but don't be scared to dig out the center more and make it deeper in the center of the pool.
Wish we would have thought about that!🤦
How much sand did you put down
Around 4.5 yarda
My geound has a very slight incline, so i was thinking id till my ground, pack it and put my pool mat down under my tarp and just go with that. Cuz if i used sand, having a slight incline, would cause sand to wash out.
Can anybody tell me if the ground has to be tilled before sang or can i just put sand right over the grass?
You will want to remove the grass before laying the sand. We tilled ours, which also helped loosen any rocks that would've rubbed on the liner.
Do the legs go on the sand and what stops ut from sinking
We put the legs on the sand, then once the pool was filled we moved the sand away from the base. Since they had settled at that point. The ended up on the dirt pad we had under the sand.
Nice job. What kind of sand ? Mason sand? Thank you
Yes, or pool sand. We had it hauled in.
Could just get a rotary laser and a shot rod
