Welcome to my channel, Through Nicky’s Lens! In this video, Nicky will walk you through the process of confirming your Canadian permanent residency, Portal 2.
What to Expect After Becoming a Permanent Resident:
Electronic Confirmation of Permanent Residence (e-COPR): If you are already in Canada and once you become a permanent resident, an e-COPR will be available to you in the Portal. 📄 This electronic confirmation serves as proof of your new status in Canada.
First Permanent Resident Card: In the Portal, you’ll be asked to provide a photo to start the process of issuing your first PR card. 📸 You don’t need to apply separately for this.
Using Your e-COPR While Waiting for Your PR Card:
While you wait for your PR card, your printed and signed e-COPR can be used to:
Prove Your Status: ✅ Show you’re a permanent resident in Canada.
Apply for Benefits and Services: 📝 Apply for government benefits, like your social insurance number, so you can work.
    For Those Outside Canada:
    Before You Arrive:
Pre-Arrival Services: 🆓 Use free pre-arrival services to:
    • Learn about living and working in Canada. 🏡💼
    • Take steps to get recognition for your education, professional licenses, and certificates. 🎓📜
Reading Resources: 📚 Read about living and finding work in Canada to prepare yourself.
Documents to Prepare: 🛂 Ensure you have:
    • A valid passport or travel documents. Your passport must be a regular, private citizen passport.
    • Your COPR and permanent resident visa (if issued).
    • Proof of funds to support yourself and your family. 💵👨‍👩‍👧‍👦
    Upon Arrival in Canada:
When you arrive, you’ll meet an officer from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) who will:
Conduct Verification: 🔍 Ensure you enter Canada before the expiry date on your COPR. 🧍‍♂️ Confirm your identity and eligibility using your biometrics.
Review Required Documents: 📑 Review your passport and other travel documents. 🤔 Ask you a few questions similar to those in your application.
How to Speed Up Entry: 📂 Keep your passport and documents handy - don’t pack them in your luggage!
Entry Denial: ⛔ You won’t be allowed into Canada if you provide false or incomplete information or don’t meet entry conditions.
Upon Successful Verification for Entry: 🛬 If admissible, the officer will:
    • Allow you to enter Canada as a permanent resident.
    • Confirm your Canadian mailing address for your PR card delivery. 📬
Address Change Notification: 🏠 If you change your address within 180 days of arriving, inform IRCC using the web form.
