      But I think I’d rather do a whole full-on 6-month immersion course, designed for people who’d like to eventually teach English or French or Spanish in Japan, than to do a 3-week taste-of-Japan kind of thing … I’m not, like, “damn the costs, full speed ahead,” but as pricey as 6 months or 1 year might be, it’d likely be as good or better a value than (hypothetically) six or seven separate 3-week trips, especially once you factor in airfare. BUT if I had all the money and the time in the world, of course I’d do both. “Cool Japan” or “Rural Japan” or “Cherry Blossom Japan” all looked right up my alley! So thanks for the upload, I’ll check out their website. [And I think you work more in the leisure travel market, but if the opportunity ever arose for you to record video at a full-blown years-long immersion school, I’d also watch that upload for sure!!]

      @@TomTheSemmel - May I ask what a “light novel” is? Is it just what it sounds like, a novel which is, uh, kinda fluffy in content? Or is “light novel” a term of art, something particular to Japan? Sorry if.I sound dense, light novel is probably just a self-evident descriptive term … but you never know, it could be some wild thing made of tissue paper and worn as a cape which others read as you ride the metro through Tokyo, you really never know.

    3D neko was awesome! I remember my first Japanese course class and how exciting it was to concentrate on listening Japanese speaking and I actually started it with a lot of younger group.. but it went well. Idea to travel to Japan and train language at the same time sounds good. And If I understood correctly, the language company will also help you with reservation of hotels.

    See, I've considered doing a study trip to go to Japan for several weeks...but I'm a bit afraid of what might've happened with my attention span over the years, though: it's been nearly 20 years since I stepped foot in a classroom (the last of my college days was in the spring of 2004). Also, I'm not yet too confident speaking Japanese (though I know some basics...but I believe my lack of confidence to be rooted in simple lack of repetition). And I'm right there with you on your choice of crepes...basic or bust. Looks like you had a wonderful day overall...thanks for sharing it with us :) .

    • @danopticon
      @danopticon 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You may be interested to know that, over the decades, the trend in teaching has been to dole out information in smaller, bite-sized pieces, with lots of breaks in between info nuggets … and this trend is based not on “shortening attention spans,” which could well be a perennial myth (critics in the 1930s complained that radio was reducing human attention spans!), but is rather based on insights gleaned over the decades into how our species best learns: it turns out we pick up info best in short, intense bursts, so some corporate training sessions are now broken up into - no joke - 8-minute teaching segments, 7-minute Q&A segments, and 7-minute breaks, with longer 15-minute breaks every hour, and quite long lunches! Many schools are following suit, so even if you feel your attention span has “shortened” since 2004, you’ll likely find today’s trends in pedagogy accommodate you well. If you’re thinking about a study trip, I’d advise you to jump right in: none of us are getting any younger, so there’s no time like the present!
