Hey guys! Thanks to everyone who pointed out that I could've turned the water off while I was shampooing. I didn't even think of it! So if you were going to comment saying so, don't worry about it, we got it under control :)
+ch527kerosene Ugh you're so pretty and these look so freaking amazing on you and i really want to get some but I'm so afraid that it will look like total crap on me. Do you have any advice or anything on whats the best kind to get as your first set? I am thinking of trying to make them myself at least the first time in case I don't like them on myself. Thanks!
Comment down below if you didn’t know that people could wash their dreads! Let me know if you had no idea what I was even gonna do, and if this changed your idea of dreads, both real and synthetic :)
I had waist long dreads which i grew for about 7 years. I cut them at the start of last year as my work wouldn't allow me to have them. My routine was very similar to yours when I washed them. I used to do it once a fortnight. Never really sectioned the while I applied the shampoo. Just squeezed the shampoo onto the palms of my hands and massaged it into the scalp and dreads themselves. I had an extra step though, which was to rinse the dreads with a mixture of water and tea tree oil. This helps stop the itching and makes the scalp feel fresh and smell nice. Anyway, thanks for the video. You're awesome and so beautiful. You give me butterflies in my tummy.
If you turn you water off while massaging the shampoo into your dreads you can save a lot of water, just turn it back on once it is time to rinse it all out! Just a friendly suggestion to save some water :D
She is one of the few people that are just naturally stunning. She is honestly gorgeous. Ik it doesn't matter to make a compliment, but I can't help myself but say that she is absolutely beautiful inside and out.
You did a really great job cleaning your dreads! The only suggestion I have is for drying your hair. It's good to make sure your hair is completely dry so mold or soap scum doesn't build up. Try using a blow dryer on a warm setting holding it like 2-3in from ur hair going in between all of them. I hope I explained this good and maybe it can help.
Me and my friend are getting dreads, and I feel like this is the most practical way to do it. Not to complicated and hard but also, taking care of everything.
I'm very picky and I take my dreads out once a week and wash my hair and wash my dreads in the sink separately. Since it only takes me about an hour to put in about 35-40 DE dreads and about 30 minutes to take them out I don't really find that it's too much trouble to take them out. Plus it gives my neck a break and I can re-dye my roots as frequently as I like.
+Toni Parrish OH HEY. I was about to reply to this, like normal, but then I caught a glimpse of your name. AH! I was gonna say though, holy shit what hahah!! That's amazing @_@ I wish I was that quick.
+Salem Snape I honestly don't know because I got my first set of dreads EVER a couple of weeks ago. I mean I guess since I was preparing so much in my head for these for so long my fingers just knew what to do.
you kind of remind me of Crystal Reed, she plays Alison in teen wolf, you just sort of look like her, i dunno maybe it's just me but it's a compliment, btw love your videos
omg you can wash them... ooh this might be the year I have dreads ... cheers lovely ... you've been an inspiration this spring morning xx.. I shall subscribe
Ikr.. 😆 WTF . leave her a lone pol. U don't pay her water bill.. Besides I would have done the same as her. No need in turning the water off and back on.. 😒
im v happy i found this again bc i going to ve installing either synthetic or real hair extensions soon, so this is good in case i do the synthetic ones. but i originally came to the comment section to tell you how incredibly gorgeous & kind you are!!
I just love your videos. The hay made things simple and easy to acheive. Since watching your videos I have been on a dread journey. And I couldn't be happier
Mariam Akerman these aren't like real dreads. what those people are talking about is like dreading your actual hair.. so.. not the same thing. plus, who the fuck cares what others think. just do you boo boo.
omg thank you for this much needed info! I commented on one of your previous vids about where to get dreads and you directed me to Dreadlock Kimgdom group on Facebook and I also wanna thank you for that. I have purchased a set from someone on there and am going to start install tonight!
I don't have dreads, but your idea of diluting the shampoo with water before applying is a great tip, think about it. the shampoo in bottle is solo saturated end up using more than we need and often leave residue leading to dry hair or flaking. yeah, im going to try her way. !💜
I used to use a specific yarn for dreads then put my rubber bands in then tie the "dread" into my hair. I have recently decided to actually braid the yarn into my hair like DE dreads. I have learned that there's a reason people do it that way. The way I was doing it was really not smart! I was losing way to much hair when I showered and ain't nobody got time for that lol. Just a tip for anyone new to dreads 😉
You can! But I've heard some stuff about salt water and chlorine not being the best for them, so maybe google to try and find more about that. I've never gone swimming with them so I've never looked into it.
About that part with the conditioner. Conditioner won't let your dreads get dirty, you just have to rinse your hair very good. But for dreads you don't really need conditioner, because conditioner just makes it easier to comb your hair. Well, exactly it closes your cuticle layer. Fine hair would suffer without closing the cuticle after shampooing, and break afterwards. That's the only thing I wanted to add. Oh and just an information by the way. When you got oily scalp, NEVER put conditioner on your scalp. Because it just makes it worse
Thank you finally see a way to wash them without spending an unnecessary amount 😂 getting mine installed in a few days and have been wondering how im gonna wash em ❤
I can't believe ppl dislike ur vids. I don't have dredds I just like ur vids. Ur a very interesting person and ur vids are great. U should be on TV or something. Keep up the great work.😁
Hello! Not sure you have replies on this video any longer, but I did have a question about it! I was wondering whether this same method could be used with dreads that have fabric and beads woven into them, and how you would let them dry? Those are wool dreads as well, correct? I was also wondering if you knew whether you can go to a pool (chlorine water) with wool/synthetic dreads in? Thank you so much!
Actuallyy there's kinda two reasons people aren't supposed to condition em, one is yeah build up and stuff, but it usually makes the braids slip! I guess some other added tips from my past experience I can add (I think this is okay? haha! you did a real good job explaining and showing but hey all the tips!) the longer the dreads, and especially if you have a full head, can get super mega heavy! I also don't recommend too much washing the actual dreads, especially if longer, if you install on shorter hair (say, 1-4" long) just because the weight and tension can make the braids/dreads slip a bit if they're not super secure with long hair keeping em in haha (this is some personal experience oops - I first started wearing long dreads on 1-2" hair ;p)
Alejandra8p As someone who had real dreads a couple years ago, I can say your dreads should never stink after washing them. If someone's dreads smell - they are unclean, or moldy. And both cases are preventable. Wash your dreads with dread-acceptable soap (please do research regarding what to use, certain soaps can make your dreads musty with soap-scum), and ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be sure your dreads are 100% dry after a shower. Otherwise mold can occur and completely ruin your hair. Hope this tip helps.
Shyan Marie good point! No matter what shampoo used, a deep clean will help clean the dreads properly if having any issues like this. Even good for maintenance in general.
Well this is actually true in some cases... I've been wearing synthetic dreads for years now, when I first washed my dreads I didn't properly let the dry. Plus the fact that I normally have 60 to 70 dreads in, it's very thick a stuffy under them. The smell was pretty bad since they couldn't air out properly. Just make sure they dry properly to avoid any smells
That's great to know for washing and maintaining them while wearing them...but I'd like to know the different methods of washing them while they are not in your head. So you hand wash or machine wash?
Same reason you don't leave a wet bathing suit or towel crumpled up on the floor. They will start to smell. Once they've dried enough to be just damp, they need to air dry.
+DarkArt888 you should never leave dreads damp or any kind of wet. they're like sponges and will retain moisture. best to dry them with multiple towels and blow dry. (had ONE dread, made this mistake and had mold growing inside of the dread) synthetic and wool may be different
sonya hoffman Blow drying them is an option, but a damaging one. I don't know what kind of climate you live in bro (If a humid one, then that might of contributed) but air drying your dread wasn't the cause of your mold, I can assure you. You either used wax in your dread, you used products that weren't water soluble, or you found lint in your dreads and mistook it for mold (which I know sounds dumb, but I've heard of that happening a few times.)
+DarkArt888 dreading your hair is damaging in general. i just know i had a bad experience not drying mine properly and blow drying worked best to keep the smell away. but everyones different.
What do you do with dreads that have adornments? Decorative threads, beads, wraps, etc. Do they (the adornments) need to be removed before washing? Or does it depend on what the decoration is made out of, some could probably be washed?
I came to this video literally after her video where she changed from the purple and pink dreads to the red and white dreads and wondered how she cleaned them, good to know
Wasting water is really only a problem if you are somewhere with too little water (I have no Idea if she lives such a place). I, for example, live in Norway and I never have to deal with water supplies running low. The only exception is on *especially* dry summers, and then we are only asked to limit how much we water our lawns. I would be more concerned with wasting a lot of *heated* water. So much wasted energy!
I have synth and do the same. I was glad to see you do the dilution in the coloring bottle as I do. It was a life saver when I finally got that idea. lol
Hi! I'm new to dread extensions. Ive been watching a lot of your stuff for tips and such. :) I see the dreads you're washing in this video are synthetic hair perhaps? I'm curious if you have any tips on washing woolen dreads?
Hair dry applicator bottles are so handy! Another trick is to take the lid off a water bottle, poke a dozen holes with scissors, add soap solution to water bottle and add water, then add the cap and it works like a mini shower head kind of lol
Do the dreads stunt your hair growth at all? I’m growing mine out and I hate how it looks in it’s awkward stage right now so I’m considering synthetic dreads, but I don’t want it to stunt growth either
I wear woolies, and usually dont wash them when they r in but once I take them out I just throw them thru the wash in a pillow case. Helps keep them tight and neat as well, then wash my hair really well b4 I re install
Very helpful! Can you do a video of how I’d dye my roots? My hair is a different color than my natural hair. So I want to keep my roots up! I need to dye my roots every 5-6 weeks…
+PointlessNeedles Legitimately a lot of my subscribers don't have dreads/don't want them, but like watching the hair transformations and stuff anyway :)
You don’t have to blow dry them to make sure they are completely dry? I read something about dreads getting moldy if they aren’t dried completely. I’m thinking of just getting a few synthetic dreads to put on the underside of my hair and just keeping the rest of my hair natural. Thanks!
Hey guys! Thanks to everyone who pointed out that I could've turned the water off while I was shampooing. I didn't even think of it! So if you were going to comment saying so, don't worry about it, we got it under control :)

Hahaha 😆 yeah ‘Gracie wtf’
It defiantly feeling like a new ‘Kevin!’
Theres a misconception that people that havr dreadlocks are dirty and dont wash their hair. Guessing thats where this belief stemmed from
I'm very picky and I take my dreads out once a week and wash my hair and wash my dreads in the sink separately.

Try using a shamwow or a car shammy instead of a towel. They absorb more water. I use them for drying my dog after his bath and it helps a lot

I don't have dreads, but your idea of diluting the shampoo with water before applying is a great tip, think about it. the shampoo in bottle is solo saturated end up using more than we need and often leave residue leading to dry hair or flaking. yeah, im going to try her way. !💜
You are genuinely beautiful. You are the platonic ideal of natural beauty and it is amazing.
I always thought people with dreads never washed their hair! I guess you do learn something new everyday!
How many dreads is needed to cover entire head??
It depends on the size! With dreads this size, you'd need about 50-60.
okay cool! i ordered medium thickness and 50 of them! do you think that will be enough??
Kennedy Caja That should be, yes!
Thank you so much for your help girl! i really really appreciate it
Kennedy Caja No problem!

I don’t even have dreads, your channel is just really satisfying 😂
u are sooo pretty omg 😍❤️
I used to use a specific yarn for dreads then put my rubber bands in then tie the "dread" into my hair. I have recently decided to actually braid the yarn into my hair like DE dreads. I have learned that there's a reason people do it that way. The way I was doing it was really not smart! I was losing way to much hair when I showered and ain't nobody got time for that lol. Just a tip for anyone new to dreads 😉
Probably a stupid question but if you go swimming or to a water park can u still keep them in or no?
You can! But I've heard some stuff about salt water and chlorine not being the best for them, so maybe google to try and find more about that. I've never gone swimming with them so I've never looked into it.
Help I literally stumbled myself here and holy shit I think you are actually the most absolutely gorgeous person I have ever seen.
That's great ,I'm getting my first dreads I'm so excited 😆 I like your method! It's great
About that part with the conditioner.
I'm thinking of putting in dreads do you know where I could get them
Stephanie Wiatrak try Etsy !
Stephanie Wiatrak look at her videos she has many suggestions
the best ones are made from curly pubic hair
Buy them in an online store and then go to an African saloon and they will install them.
Nath Gómez It's petty easy to put in dreadlocks yourself, no need to go to someone else unless you *really* want to
I am 47 and getting my first set of de synthetic dreads soon! Your videos are super helpful!
Wow! Dreads are really cool. But I don't think I'm prepared for all this work :)
I love your style and personality! Your videos are great
so you just let them air dry? I'm guessing a blow dryer is a no go?
Sometimes I will dry the roots with a blow dryer on low heat, or no heat at all. Otherwise, yes, air dry.
Thank you finally see a way to wash them without spending an unnecessary amount 😂 getting mine installed in a few days and have been wondering how im gonna wash em ❤
How did I get here

A note for people with real, human hair dreads: don't leave them in a towel. Other then that, this method would work fine.

What do you do with dreads that have adornments? Decorative threads, beads, wraps, etc. Do they (the adornments) need to be removed before washing? Or does it depend on what the decoration is made out of, some could probably be washed?
Me dolió ver tanta agua desperdiciándose 😰
Mantén la llave cerrada mientras lavas tu cabello por favor.
You should do more hair transformations I LOVE THEM AND YOUR CHANNEL
How sad to see how the water is wasted do not dump so much water saw the shower faucet
Xavier Novoa stfu
Don't watch videos on youtube, you're wasting electicity that can be used to other usefull stuff.
I came to this video literally after her video where she changed from the purple and pink dreads to the red and white dreads and wondered how she cleaned them, good to know
why are you wasting water while putting shampoo????!
Jocelyn Quintal I wonder the same
m2!
Jocelyn Quintal you cant see with that thick hair covering your fucking face.
It's not possible to waste water.
It was a life saver when I finally got that idea. lol
That wasted water... it hurts on my ecoheart
Nallely Muñoz Do you eat meat?
I wish I was vegan :c
Nallely Muñoz Wishing wont save the environment
George Carlin I know, what do you do for the environment?
Nallely Muñoz what do you do? (curious and stuff)
Hi! I'm new to dread extensions. Ive been watching a lot of your stuff for tips and such. :) I see the dreads you're washing in this video are synthetic hair perhaps? I'm curious if you have any tips on washing woolen dreads?
You are so gorgeous!
Hair dry applicator bottles are so handy! Another trick is to take the lid off a water bottle, poke a dozen holes with scissors, add soap solution to water bottle and add water, then add the cap and it works like a mini shower head kind of lol
Is it just me or dose the yellow and green dreads look like the grinchs fingers. It could just be that its Christmas.
Just curious to know what type of work you do? Your dread style is lovely and I know lots of places aren’t into “extreme” hair
oh gosh.. if that was me i would've just put my head into the dishwasher @.@
😂😂😂
Do the dreads stunt your hair growth at all? I’m growing mine out and I hate how it looks in it’s awkward stage right now so I’m considering synthetic dreads, but I don’t want it to stunt growth either
How are you so beautiful?! 💕
I love watching your hair related videos 😂no idea why just love it.
well, I'm on the weird side of youtube again
Welcome. Stay as long as you'd like.
How is this the weird side of TH-cam?
I wear woolies, and usually dont wash them when they r in but once I take them out I just throw them thru the wash in a pillow case. Helps keep them tight and neat as well, then wash my hair really well b4 I re install
I don't really like dreads. But I love your videos ;)
Very helpful! Can you do a video of how I’d dye my roots? My hair is a different color than my natural hair. So I want to keep my roots up! I need to dye my roots every 5-6 weeks…
i see alot of people in the comments with no interest in dreads what are you doing here? lmao
Admiring the dreads
mmmhmmm lol
+PointlessNeedles Legitimately a lot of my subscribers don't have dreads/don't want them, but like watching the hair transformations and stuff anyway :)
You don’t have to blow dry them to make sure they are completely dry? I read something about dreads getting moldy if they aren’t dried completely. I’m thinking of just getting a few synthetic dreads to put on the underside of my hair and just keeping the rest of my hair natural. Thanks!
Can you maybe turn off the FUCKING water while putting the shampoo in your hair for an eternity? Planet Earth says thank you.
Excuse me, are you vegan? Coz that's the only way you'll save
the most water fucking bellend
Matthew Nolan

Matthew Nolan
