Yeah, me too. My book (Davis) about acculturation says, “a person who is acculturated accepts both his own and the new culture, adopting elements of each.” And about assimilation it says, “assimilation is complete when the newcomer is fully merged into the dominant cultural group.” These concepts are complicated. Every time I think I understand, I still miss the questions.
This was a very good video, I actually had some of these exact questions on my last exam. I love how you explain why the wrong answers are wrong that helps a ton. Do you have any videos on fluids, electrolytes, and acid-base balance?
i just started watching your videos not long ago, and love them! they have helped tremendously because i like knowing rationales and why something is incorrect. Im currently a nursing student and have a test soon over religion and culture.. this video was great but it was mainly over culture.. is there a video about religion?
Thanks, Professor D. who you were my nursing instructor, your concepts and materials are critical but very easy to understand even for a person who does not speak the language of medicine. Your topic on elimination of urinary and bowel and prioritization really helped on my second exam, I was able to get a B because I listened to your channel! I am a first-semester nursing student and taking NURS113 BUT still struggling in that class! I passed my second exam because of you! Could you please do a video on WEEK 10: INTRODUCTION TO CULTURE, CULTURAL DIVERSITY, SPIRITUALITY, & INTRODUCTION TO REPRODUCTION, GENDER, AND SEXUALITY and WEEK 11: INTRODUCTION TO PERFUSION? for my exam three coming up soon
Thanks for covering all topics. You’ve been of great help. In other news, it’s Great to see a video of you in natural lighting, your newer videos are always too bright with blinding highlights. Revert to this standard by reducing the lens exposure or lighting. Thanks
Professor D please make longer video than this it’s really help to understand the chapter. Could you please make a video about communicating and therapeutic relationships please please please
at the 5:16 mark you explained why 4 is not the correct answer but I am still having difficulty on why that is not correct because that was my initial answer. I thought interpreters are always the correct answer.
Look at the wording. It does not say “use an interpreter” It says “interact with the interpreter for all communication” and that is wrong. Even when you use an interpreter you have to look at and interact with the patient.
Hello Professor D! First off thank you so much for all your work it has really helped me! I wanted to ask you about your rationale on the last question in this video... One of the responses was for the family to bring in soup and it was the incorrect answer. My reasoning for thinking this question was correct was because I believe soup (foods) to be a cultural aspect of a ethnicity. please explain to me why it was not this response. time stamp 14:03
When I took my last Nclex that was the 4th time , 5 years ago I had repeatedly Negligence related questions .can you please elaborate on Negligence type topics to review more in that field .
you know what, I just went through the entire video and realized that I only covered the cultural aspect. I owe you a video!!! I will definitely be looking for content for you!!! 🙈🙈🙈
sorry, I have another concern. The question about acculturation seems wrong to me because when you say "Adapting to and adopting a new culture" it makes it seem like they are forgetting about their culture, entirely, and picking up a new one, which would be assimilation. Please help me get a better understanding of this question.
For the question regarding the patient who is not fluent in English, wouldn't the translator be the first choice and if no translator is available, then we use gestures and pictures?
for the question about "interacting with an interpreter for all communication", I don't understand how that's wrong. Is it because the question doesn't specify it's an official translator? you say that choosing an interpreter is always the first choice.
@@jacobmicu3945 the reason that it is wrong is because you are supposed to be interacting with the patient, not the interpreter. The interpreter is a means for you to communicate with your primary focus which is the patient. Even when you are using an interpreter, you are supposed to face the patient and look at the patient when you are speaking (not the interpreter). Why? Nonverbal communication is way more important than verbal, so while you are making eye contact and speaking to your patient (while the interpreter interprets) you are watching your patient's body language and assessing for subtle cues just like you would any other patient. You absolutely can not direct your attention to the interpreter as it the patient is a bystander. It is all about the patient, the interpreter is just the vehicle/means to communicate with your focus which is always the patient. Does this make sense?
@@NexusNursing that makes total sense. It still comes down to fully understanding the question and the answer choices for me. I took that answer choice as using an interpreter, not talking directly to the interpreter. Thank you!
Professor D,
You are the best! To be honest, you are a better professor than my now nursing instructor. I feel like I learn more from you ❤
If it weren’t for you I wouldn’t be passing my classes thank you so much for what you do!

That's what I thought too
Thank you
Can we get fundamentals exam 1,2,3,4,5 reviews and what to expect

You have to provide time stamps so I can know exactly which quotation you are referring to.
this one is at 3:00!
