    Once a year at Xmas time the TV got wheeled into my primary school class and these episodes of Watch were played back to back. It's been 35 or more years since I've heard "Follow the star". Felt a little emotional hearing it.

    I was born 1973 and vividly remember the excitement in our primary class late 70s when the teacher would wheel in the huge wooden tv to the classroom for us to watch this ! Been searching for it for years and so happy to find this ! Got tears of happiness now remembering the great times we lived in back then before internet and wokism etc

    Having a crush on Louise Hall-Taylor was considered compulsory among my clasmates. As well as the episodes on Robinson Crusoe, I recall the Exodus story with a song about Ramesses II - "I'm the Top Man in the Land", and the story of David and Goliath - Song: "He was 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 Feet Tall'.

      Who do you revere? Ramesses! Say it loud and clear! Ramesses! Who's the one you cry for; who's the one you'd die for? Ramesses! Yeah? Ramesses! Yeah!!

    I haven't heard the song "Follow The Star" in 35 years, but I remembered the melody surprisingly closely. I must've liked it...

    I was 4 in 1977 but this repeated in 1982 when I was 9 and recorded on video and watched it in school. Goodness knows why there was a 5 year gap but totally loved the romantic notion of both these ideal parent like people I wanted to be adopted by them

    15:20 I’m probably barking mad, but I always found Louise’s comments insanely funny here. And I showed this program to infant classes right up into the late noughties. Imagine if she was presenting in 2022, “Shortly after the war in Ukraine, Vladimir became very ill, and died of Novichok poisoning. But nobody cried, because he was such a cruel man!” 😂😂😂

    Is anyone else getting Wickerman vibes from this? I'm half expecting them to wheel out a shackled Edward Woodward then dance bare arsed in the moonlight, wearing strange animal headgear and singing "follow the star".

    Can anyone remember the ''Robinson Crusoe'' story on this show? The male presenter James Earl Adair was Robinson Crusoe. The song is still in my head though I've not heard it for years. It went like, ''Robinson Robinson Robinson Crusoe, all alone and all by himself'' and in the last episode he was rescued and he said ''I took a last look at my island.

    Wow was "Watch" on as early as 1977? Remember it from my infant / junior school days in the early to mid-1980s when I was a young girl, but had no idea it ran for so long... I had a younger brother who remembers the series still being shown when he was in the infants / juniors in the early 90s as well... Anyone know what years it ran from and to?

    • @dunebasher1971

      Thank you! It must have been one of, if not the longest-running BBC Schools series of all... I know that the series "Walrus" (which ran immediately after "Watch" in the schedule for many years) finished at the same time as 'Watch', but I'm pretty sure that didn't start until the mid/late 70s... Thank you for sharing this anyway, a fabulous nostalgia trip!

    Is it possible that gold, frankincense and myrrh (and their respective bringers) represented different tribes of people?

    • @alastairhopkins245
      @alastairhopkins245 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gold represented Jesus's kingship, Frankincense represented fragrance and humility, and Myrrh showed what was going to happen to Jesus - he would die for our sin and rise that we may have Eternal Life.

    • @shireboundscribbles
      @shireboundscribbles 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Gold symbolises royalty - because, well kings and gold
      Frankincense symbolises priesthood - it's the incense they burn
      Myrrh symbolises death - it was used to annoint the dead
