I think the uk should help our New Zealand brothers and do them a good deal on the Type 23s when they get replaced by the Type 26.

South Korea shipyards that are finishing our Auxiliary fleet Oiler and resupply ship HMNZS Aotearoa , id rather they build our frigates, UK ones will cost us twice as much, and a good deal longer to build. Nine months from cutting the steel to having a 26,000 tonne vessel mostly done and afloat is pretty damn good.

Can't do. The yards are maxed out on the Clyde there building 4 OPVs, 5 Type 31 Frigates to be announced in September, 4 Astutes subs, 4 Dreadnoughts and eight type 26 Frigates. Unless the Kiwis are willing to weight until 2045 there is no capacity. There are three RFA Solids Support ships which we asked the Korean's to build because no yard in the UK put in a bid.

all the T23s are older than our current two frigates except for the last one HMS St Albans. Cant see us wanting 30 year old frigates that require slightly more people to operate than the current ones we have.

We'd be better off just keeping the ANZACs if we were going to go down that path

A carrier is in service for upto fifty years so why can’t a frigate serve 40 - 50 years?

Aha, so you can land a helicopter on it. And it has got a cannon. They should keep this one (not mothball it) and others, even if they get another new thing that has a big gun and can land a helicopter on it. If they have those two features, they're worth hanging on to. Decommissioning them doesn't make sense for NZ and that is because they never get into any scraps. i.e. It is: _"One previous careful owner."_
If NZ arm their NH90 choppers and Seasprites with torpedos and anti-submarine missles (and air-top-surface missles), then by using all 4 helicopters each on such a vessel means NZ would actually have some teeth in that set-up. They do not have submarines. Doing this is far less expensive than submarines. At least it is "something". If you were in a submarine (maybe not the latest submarine) and 4 such ships with 4 such helicopters were against you, it would be reasonably frighteningly deadly.
NZ have loads of spare little helicopters _(and they gifted two rather decent looking helicopters to the solomon islands)_ they can use for the humanitarian and concern-troll activities. Don't waste the beefy helicopters which take missles.
