My Deepest Freedives while Spearfishing Offshore Oil Rigs! {Walkthrough}

  • Here is the second half of the day diving with George! In this video, I walk through some super deep drops (for me) to look for red snapper on the bottom in 120 feet. After that, we move spots and find ourselves swarmed by big amberjacks, and even a cubera snapper comes up to check us out.
    Update is coming in the next video.

    So good to see you back on the Tube. I know you suffered a lot of loss with the failed hard drive, but it's just great to see footage and hear your relaxed voice narrating the dives.
    The colors of the life on the legs of the rigs are brilliant! Maybe when you're spotting next time you can do some close-ups and identification of things. Really beautiful! Thanks!

      Really appreciate it! Losing the drive really felt like a setback... I actually had filmed what you are describing- closups on the rigs etc.. that was on the crashed drive.. but can definitely do it again once the dive season comes around. I now have a proper 'underwater camera' setup that should bring a whole new level to the videos. Looking forward to it.

    Braden, one thing to freedive past 100ft and another to do so in those conditions. Impressive man. I hate deep dives for the reason you encountered. It's so hard to stay on track and vertical without a line to follow. Great stuff.

    Those Barracudas eat good.

      @BradenSherron  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed! Not many people know how good they are.
      I just usually don’t mess with them as I got tired of them bending my brand new spears.. and not as much of a challenge/exciting for me to shoot anymore.

    Great video! The only critiques I really have are ones you already touched on. Just keep that straight angle and fight that urge to look around. And one more thing; I don’t know if the bubbles on the ascent were from you just moving or exhaling. But if it was from an exhale I’d try to avoid blowing out on the exhale. Keeping that air in will make you more buoyant so you’ll rise faster and just increases odds of a black out. Do get me wrong though. I catch myself doing it too.
    But seriously love your vids and jealous of the depth you can get. My ears have always struggled. Keep it up!

      Really appreciate it 👊👊thanks for watching and the comment Garron! I think the bubbles are from the turbulence of my go pro or mask.

    Dude your videos are awesome! I definitely want to try spearfishing and freediving soon. How long have you been freediving? What's a good starter depth?

      Take a freediving course and get certified, level 1 is typically to 33 feet . You will learn how to dive safely. Level 2 is to 66 feet etc.

    • @BradenSherron
      @BradenSherron  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Appreciate it! It's an awesome sport. I started in 2015. Depth is all going to depend on comfort level and is usually incrementally increased. Doing a freediving class would be very beneficial just starting out. There's a lot of youtube videos you can learn from as well, but as far as depths it's as simple as starting at 10 feet and slowly going deeper as you get comfortable.

      Yeah you can! I usually don’t since I see them all the time and look for more exciting stuff to go after. Taste great I just prefer cleaning and eating snapper also.

    Any recommendations on a spear gun and fins? Diving in the same water.

    • @BradenSherron
      @BradenSherron  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you're starting out I'd highly recommend these.
      Fins amzn.to/3lGW5eV
      Gun amzn.to/415BYHI
      I still use both these fins and gun.. plastic fins you can beat up on rocks on the jetties and will last. I still bring a pair of these as backups in my boat.
      The gun is a rob allen, it'll last forever and is a beast.

    Great Video Braden! What Speargun are you using? I think it is a Rob Allen double roller? How long is it? How thick is the shaft? Where I can buy it? Do you recommend this gun? I bought a
    Riffe Marauder 63S and it feels very heavy. Thank you and keep it up!!!

    • @BradenSherron
      @BradenSherron  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!
      It’s a Coatesman CDR 130. 8mm shaft. Hands down favorite gun I’ve ever used. Balanced like no other, feels like a feather in the water, and is really light out of it as well.
      I ordered mine through messaging Chris on Instagram. It should be ‘coatesmanspearfishing’ or something similar. If you order one let him know you saw it from the video!
      Really appreciate you watching the video! Hope that helped!
