man just seeing gameplay of this game makes me feel nostalgic. cant believe it’s been 15 years since this gem. great job man!
Honestly playing it puts me in a time machine back to originally playing it. A truly special feeling that I don't think I even had with say Arkham Asylum
Hey Alex, love the video as always. Sadly I missed the community post so I couldn’t give you my thoughts before hand. I wish TH-cam would give me notifications for your community posts. Let me know if there’s a way to do that that I missed.
As far as the game goes AC2 is one of favorite games of all time. I have like fifty of those that change depending on the day but still I love it lol. I actually love all the earlier AC games aside from 3 that is. Back when all I had was a PS2 I would go to my friend’s house and we would play on his uncle’s PS3. He had AC1 and we loved it so much that we beat it in like 2 or 3 days, which was seriously fast for us back then lol. I was hooked on Assassin’s Creed after that, at least until Unity came out, I fell off after that.
You mentioned the combat being a problem sometimes. I had a very similar take to yours until I discovered the critical hit thing or whatever it’s called. Idk if you were using that but it helps a lot with going on the offensive. Basically you just tap Square in rhythm instead of spamming it. Maybe you already knew that but I didn’t discover that until my most recent play through lol.
Also one thing you didn’t mention is the killer cinematic trailers that the first era of AC games had. AC2’s cinematic trailer especially is just iconic. They’re pretty much on par with the Arkham cinematic trailers. Also a funny thing to mention is Altair has a crossbow in the cinematic trailer for AC1 and plays that trailer when you start AC1. My friend and I were so looking forward to when we’d unlock it. We were so confused when we beat the game and never got it lol.
As a quick note I really loved the real world Desmond story. I really thought that it started off so great and was really the backbone that held the whole story of the franchise together. I must say though that I hated the way it ended. I also hated that after 3 the real world part of the story really got pushed to side. That’s one of the main reasons I fell off after Unity. That and I didn’t like the RPG mechanics.
Thanks for reading and I can’t wait for your next vid. Especially Silent Hill 2, I’m looking extra forward to that one.
O excellent comment man!!! Okay so first yeah sadly sometimes TH-cam sends notifications out sometimes it doesn't, it's very very annoying and no way around it.
As to your comment, love that story, I totally get having 50 favorite games 😂 but there really is something special to this one. And as for the cinematic trailers you're 100% right they are iconic. They are probably the first thing I think of when I think of AC 2 and then the iconic opening title. So good.
And Desmond I'm with you. I understood at the time when they abandoned it but there was something kinda special about it and the glue that like made the story lol, made the going back in time possible. So I'll always appreciate it for that. And thanks man, got some really fun ones coming. I got this channel planned through mid February and we're going through some special games.
Man, yeah 2009 was an amazing year for video games. I got into alot of franchises that year. AC, Batman Arkham, COD modern warfare 2. Damn. Great year.
Anyway Keep up the grind Alex!
You're one of the best TH-camrs on here⭐
It's truly unbelievable how good 2009 is. There's a few others that may rival it but it's in elite territory that we haven't gotten close to the last 5 years. And appreciate that a ton, thank you very much!
The Desmond / Abstergo type stuff is one of the main reasons I continued to buy the games.
The number of eagle points was a bit too much, especially given you had to climb them and not "jump up them".
Jumping of tall buildings - is screaming at the TV "Ezio, why the f**k would I want you to do that?"
I did re-start Revelations the other week, that's got far too many shops to unluck.
I do remember when Syndicate came out thinking that that game was the right amount of time for a game and a lot of things to do
Absolutely, I'm with you with Desmond and o man, I did the same thing. Like "ezio do you really believe I told you to jump that way" 😂😂. 2009 jank. I gotta play the Syndicates of the world. I left after 3 and didn't come back till origins except for black flag so there are some holes there that I will fill through this channel. Appreciate the comment man!!
@@podcastnowbacktothepast some of the expansions for Syndicate are really good. The base game is on PS plus
The climbing mechanics in this game are soooo good it's a crime they straight up removed them to dumb it down. Playing Odyssey years later, and of course that game is full of problems, but also frequently I remember trying to do the side wall jump in it that was very useful in AC2, but it's just not there, nothing happened. Climbing in AC now is just autoclimb and nothing else is allowed, and often times just straight up over stuff that dont look climbable. It's really gone downhill in that aspect.
Edit: and also I liked the Desmond stuff. The desmond stuff, as well as the general lorebuilding was the only stuff in the series where out of animus stuff wasnt a huuuge drag. I hated it so much in titles from 4 onward, and especially in Odyssey.
Totally with you. I think the Brotherhood/Revelation nailed the faster paced climbing while also still making it real/strategic you know? I never actually played Syndicate but I've seen that and it does look amazing so maybe it peaked there, but you're right, the spirit of climbing is just gone nowadays. And glad to hear with Desmond, I think that stuff has really aged well to a lot of fans, you and me included 😂
Appreciate the comment!!!
