It warms my heart to hear someone else older who can't stay at a job longer than a year. I literally can't stand doing the same thing, seeing the same faces, etc., long term. Life is too short and that lifestyle is dull lol.
I agree, life is too short. I just can't imagine giving my whole life or 20+ years of it to some company. All that time and energy and in the end all I get is a crappy pension (if one at all) and a gold-plated watch lol. Variety is the spice of life, especially in work.
@@koraxbeast I work for a school district not making much...but spring break, summer and winter break is me having some semblance of a life.... Don't worry, you're perfectly "normal" whatever that is...
What really sucks about regular jobs is the office politics that is often involved. It doesn’t seem to matter if you know the job and do it well. That isn’t recognized and rewarded. It’s who you know and who’s ass you kiss that counts.
@@TimothyWard it's so great to find someone who cannot stay at a job more than a year too lol!!! Best job would be self employed/working alone Tim. I agree 🤣😂. I get bored and restless feeling too confined even trying to live somewhere let alone try to be in a relationship a year.
Yep I have felt like a slave to a system since jr high But especially once I started working ! Yet I have always been a hard worker and always wanted to prove myself … brain washed or scared I dunno ??
Bro we’ve been noticed , but it isn’t going to change , yeah it’s corrupted , but they’re looking at your like , hahaha , you either do it or you starve , your pick , trust , noticing isn’t going to change anything
The issue is lack of training given..It's scarce for the position started... so I'm left to figure out for myself the unrealistic expectations put on me.
When you start a job it's all good till people get to know you and think it's comfortable to start disrespecting...that's when it's time to go...good luck people .
Its all good at first because everything is still new and interesting and you are still learning new things. But soon most jobs becomes boring and repetative, you feel you dont grow in them anymore and its not like wages are even great in most jobs where you work for someone else. They dont want to pay you any extra. Own busyness or investing is the only way to go, if you hate working for other people.
So true - someone, a rare friendly older colleague first sang that to me and reminded me of the Smiths. Especially when I went from studying something enjoyable at the time, to fucking hell - a Warehouse job - and everyone knows how bad they are. My 2nd and proper full time role - it was a deeply cruel, cold introduction to the real world. - working with ex cons and sex pests or both and constant dibilitating, draining sarcasm. Does anyone else think this is a serious problem though - I know some people don't think too much about it at all and it's just pay check to pay check - survival. But surely some jobs out there are rewarding?
List of my jobs I quit: Liberty tax, dollar tree, mattress store, jewelry store, coffee shop, dominos, walmart, petsense, Burger King, bath and body works, daycare, and now I'm a school custodian (rehired after I was bored and quit) and deliver for papa John's. I'm a hard worker and never quit something without another job. I just got bored and wanted to try something else so I did. I always thought I was a weirdo. I'm so excited for seasonal work!!
That's alot of job lol. Boredom is a real thing at work. I think some of us need to be challenged or the job just won't work for us. Btw, I was just watching your 'I Quit My Job' video. I know exactly what you are talking about!
@@TimothyWard wow that means a lot that you watched my video! You are the one that inspired me to try seasonal work so I appreciate it! It was definitely embarrassing to go back to the school but its helped with my problem about worrying about what people thought about me. I went back for the pay to help me save up for travel and also I had 170 hrs of sick time they dont pay out to you but keep it if you decide to come back so I told my boss this is my last school year and I'll be burning up my hard earned sick time lol
That’s crazy same here I get bored 🙄 need something new lol when I quit it’s always another around the corner 🤷♀️ I be thinking I’m a weirdo. I’m Glad I’m not the only one
my problem is not that I can't keep a job, my problem is that I stay at a job that doesn't give me satisfaction or fulfilment. Because I need the money and I can't find anything better.
I must say 1 year is pretty good brother. I am lucky if I can manage to hold a job for 3 months. And everytime I quit, I feel this tremendous relief. Until I run out of money and have to do dreadful work again.
Bro I haven’t last in a job more than 3 months, im 25 year old guy with a 6 year old, im I’ve had good great jobs but im always quitting, it’s either the anxiety/depression i get from being at a place feeling locked but idk, I always quit my jobs
I'm 53 and have had only 3 jobs that I stayed longer than 3 months. Many times I have only stayed 1 month. Eventually, I'll end up rationalizing why I should quit.
I'm fairly skilled, but I can't tolerate the boredom or depression of working. Don't kid yourself--no matter how miserable you are, you're ALWAYS better off employed than otherwise. I fucking DETEST working for a living. But, I'd be lying through my teeth if I said I don't really, really miss being employed. I just can't tolerate it anymore, so that's why I'm on welfare. Fuck welfare, even a shit-paying trade job or something like that is always, always better. I would go back to working as a machinist in a split second if I could tolerate the drudgery and long, boring hours.
@devilsoffspring5519 In my city you can't even qualify for stamps if you make $1500/month lol. That's most people's rent! You still have medical insurance, car insurance, phone, groceries, pet bills/food, Electric, Water, Gas, Trash, Bi County Waste, Gas in Car, Car repairs and maintenance, lawncare, laundry, etc...
I soo agree but I’m trying to figure out what’s the solution or balance, work for yourself? For those that don’t own their homes, what’s the alternative if you don’t go the traditional path in terms of work? How do live and pay your bills and have health coverage? Thanks
Over the years I’ve come to realize that it is not healthy mentally or spiritually to have a “job” for the sake of having a job. It is much more conducive to think and decide on a certain direction and put one’s thought and effort in one direction. Furthermore one realize that a job doesn’t really secure anything for you, it just keeps you living slightly above the means but not comfortably. That’s why it’s a job. Just Over Broke
If I'm being honest with myself 6 months is my absolute max tolerance for the same environment and tasks. 3 months is usually when I'm ready to move on from most jobs or areas.
Yup, been this way my entire life. I run a business now and 3 days every other week and I'm good. Anything more I'm suffering so much so that I damn near need to be hospitalized. I make good money now. I'm responsible, but I just can do a 9 to 5
Same here. On the verge of leaving another job. Tired of mean horrible people who yell at you for things out of your control like being short staffed, horrible irresponsible coworkers who can’t pull their weight and managers who don’t know how to handle staff or the company. Just tired of working period! Can anyone relate? Is working becoming harder?
Timothy, It's not that YOU suck at jobs, it's that jobs suck. The reason people work for a living is that they have no alternatives. The entire world's economy depends on the fact that most people's lives are pretty awful, and that they have no options except for trapping themselves in a grind. They simply have no choice, and for guys, they desperately need the money otherwise they get no ass, let alone "trivial" things like food and shelter :)
So where are the opportunities. How do we capitalize on our own talents to succeed. Or do I have to drown in college debt and starve for 4 years before I can make a living wage.
@@dabbymcdabbington It's normally done by flogging the absolute living hell out of yourself at a career, and hoping to find an employer that gives a shit.
@@dabbymcdabbington You serve God or serve satan. Most of the well off people in the world serve the latter through secret society cults. When you serve the former, he will find a path for you, and give you what you need and not what you always want.
I can't keep a job...at all. Damn. It is hard for me to wrap my head around that truth. I want the social acceptance and financial benefits which a stable job offers, but I simply have no interest in fulfilling the responsibilities or conditions required for gainful employment. I am too much of a dreamer. With that said, I think Timothy Ward is awesome. I really appreciate you, man. Many thanks!
Im creative person and regular jobs kills all my creativity. I dont hate anything more in life than when someone else rules over my days and timetables and even decides when I can have holiday, lunch break or free day or not. As an adults we should be in control of our lives and how we spend our days.
Im the same way man. Everyone calls me crazy and irresponsible when I quit a job. But as sooon as a job makes me depressed or makes me work 12 hour days for long periods of time without a break, im out. Life is too short. Back in the day people had it easy, they made enough to buy a house and live a high middle class lifestyle. Now... brother u need three or four jobs to afford what the old generation afforded. Im done. I only work until I have one years worth of rent, than i enjoy my time until I run out of money. Than the whole thing starts all over again.
One of the problems with staying at one job too long is the eventuality that your boss will become someone new. No matter how good of a job you do you'll suddenly find yourself in a situation where you're a nobody and your past performance will not matter. You'll have to develop a new relationship with the new person or even find that this person doesn't like you for some reason outside of your control. The comfort you felt on the job is suddenly out the window and you find yourself stressed out every day about work. Being the captain of your own ship and jumping overboard before the negative eventualities happen can be a good thing. Too, companies love to downsize, correct size, contract out departments, cut benefits, etc. What seemed like a great job one minute can turn into the job from hell in no time flat. Steering your own vessel will help you avoid these situations, stay one step ahead of the masses, and best facilitate clear sailing on calm seas.
I agree 100% There are so many variables at a job that you can't control that can make it a living hell. Better to be the boss yourself and be in control. I'm working towards that my friend.
@@TimothyWard Timothy, keep doing what you're doing. You are wise beyond your years. There are many people who need to hear your message. They don't realize that the jobs they think they want so they can earn the, "big bucks," are most often hollow, soul-sucking, 24/7, prisons and totally contrary to the freedom and happiness they probably yearn for. I worked with people who worked at those soul-sucking jobs in the healthcare environment and who made nice 6-figure salaries. Many were not happy and their only escape was a twice-yearly "power vacation" to some desirable or exotic location that YOU spend weeks and months enjoying doing what you do. They, on the other hand, had to return to their soul-sucking jobs which they were locked into so they could make the notes on their houses they rarely got to see and their fancy cars that spent most of their time parked in the Administration parking lot. One of my first bosses in healthcare would always tell me he wanted to chuck it all and go work at a gas station in the Colorado Rockies somewhere. You are wise to have determined that the "American dream," is often the road to what Thoreau coined as, "quiet desperation." Keep fighting the good fight!

This is thee best video you have done!!! I am in Vegas and have had over 80 jobs in the past 19 years, and YES some casinos hired me back 2 and 3 times. I can't stay at a job more than a year either ..I did feel like a failure and wondered what was wrong with me... Then I realized I am just not cut out for long term either
You're definitely not alone! I am the same way and get very bored and restless in any job at the year point. A lot of us can't conform to this 9-5 soul sucking norm of society.
Same here! I'm about to be 25 and am already in my 7th job since I graduated undergrad (10th job overall). 3 of which were professional and offered salaries and benefits. It makes me feel super behind and indecisive. Granted, I'm in a period of life where I'm really just trying to figure out my life, and working is solely about making enough money to survive BUT it makes me feel like shit whenever I start a new job and immediately start thinking of my exit strategy/what to do next.
You'll figure something out. I'm in the same boat. I'm 25 as well. Have had many many jobs. I lost count. I think some people just have a very low tolerance for BS and when they sense it they leave the job. That could be you and it's most certainly me. I really don't like it when jobs switch things up on you and expect you to be okay with it. They must be talking among themselves 'oh yeah Joseph he'll be fine I'm sure he'll be okay with it...' (A few days pass) 'what? Joseph quit? No way! I thought he was going to be fine with us switching up the job on him!' and the thing is you'll know the company never really cared all that much about you because they make almost no effort to keep you or to persuade you to stay... Basically, you're disposable and easily replaceable. By the way, don't worry about being behind in life. It's not a race. Your own happiness is what matters most. Don't let anyone or any job take that away from you.
Pretty good I would say. I'm not able to nail a single job. Companies do not hire people without experience. It sucks, there are internships but they are unpaid, basically I have to do unpaid labour for a company who can throw me out any day and I'll be on my ass. That's what's wrong with society.
Believe me its not about age. Im older than you and whole life hated to work for others. Have done many things but never stayed in the same place for more than 6 month max. Now when Im walking toward midlife I finally accept that the only way making living for myself is starting own small business, becoming self embloyed. I have couple of different occupations and like to study but not work for someone else and make them rich. I dont need big houses and cars, as long as I have enough freedom and can choose my own timetables and life, Im happy. So, small business it will be. Investing is another good option, if one knows how to.
We are the hippies and the gypsys!! Life is an adventure and we are not afraid to take it!! I’ve been at my 9-5 job a year and half. Gonna quit next spring. Looking into seasonal works. Thanks for the inspiration!!
I believe that people who have jobs 10 years+ are miserable. I can't keep a job without leave after the 5 month mark because unfortunately I can't stand people and I always find a reason to leave, a good one at that! I just suck at regular jobs especially if the job has a point system and is very strict! I can't just be numb to like the majority of society
The longest I ever stayed at a job was 14 years. Ever since I left there I've probably had 30 jobs. I always thought I was broken...but I learned if your living your life exactly like everyone else your doing it wrong. Life life, do what you want, when you want, with who you want to do it with. Life is short.
I once held the same job at Walmart for almost 14 years but I was fired twice, so it was more like 10 years straight and then I came back for another 4. But since then it's been every year a new job.
Baby, I think it's safe to say that most people suck at regular jobs, judging by the quality of goods and services these days. Kudos for forging your own path and doing what works best for you. You're an inspiration.
I’m glad I’m not the only one. I worked at a government job for 10 years then one day I never went back. I’ve see people that were there 30 and 40 years some never made it to retirement and some would pass soon after they retired. I always thought I needed to leave. I never wanted to see myself working there that long.
7:29 my favourite part. Society likes to portray the “ideal and normal life” but eveyone is different and unique in their own way. Same way how success is different for for everyone 💜👏🏾
So glad I’m not the only one! I have had so many good jobs that I liked at first, the pay was good but I had a hard time staying at them (never understood why.) This video made me realize it’s because I like change and I get bored doing the same thing over and over again. I also don’t like confrontation so if anything negative would happen at any of these jobs I was previously working at, or if someone got upset and yelled at me, it would make me not like my job and turn away from it. Now I’m considering doing seasonal jobs. Thank you for this video.
I'm the same way !! The ideal situation for me is working 2-3 jobs short term just to pay my bills for the year and do whatever I want once bills are paid.
It's refreshing to see that I'm not alone. On top of having Mental Health. It's unfortunate just how so many MILLIONS of people don't understand that not everyone is built for your typical 9-5 work all year round. Also, that backdrop is absolutely stunning!
You are so fucking articulate, respectful, and proper, like. I never heard someone resonate with myself as much as you do Tim. I felt so embarrassed collecting during the rona era, and bouncing from job to job. I ALWAYS stayed in a job for at least a few months if not years. Thank you for this for telling me to back out from the boring, normal jobs. I am so sick of retail. Love your attitude man.
About 5 years ago, I tried counting how many jobs I’ve had. At that time, I counted 47. Those are ones I could remember. Im 55 years old and have felt like a dysfunctional loser for most of my life. Two years is my max at any job. My husband is 63 and he’s the same way. We know the things we enjoy. They are things that are usually done by volunteers (cleaning stuff, helping people, writing, gardening, hanging out with animals). Our lives are mostly over. It is depressing when I really sit down and think about it. I plan to do all these things in heaven, so I guess I’ll have to wait until then to appreciate myself. OH GOSH, THE 20 YEARS OF STACKING HANGERS! ID RATHER DIE. p.s. I also enjoy sitting here at Starbucks drinking my mocha and watching your video 😉
Me too, my friend. I feel the same way and I'm 51. Thank you for having the courage to share your story. Maybe all we have is knowing we're not alone in this crazy, inexplicable thing called life! Peace and much love!
Lol, the market is definitely favorable for him right now, every warehouse in the country will give you $16 an hour starting tomorrow-all the boxes you want! I also suck at regular jobs, and i totally thought there was something wrong with me too
Every time I get in a job I just hate how the future looks. That I'll be doing this for a year, 5 years, 15 years. Nuh uh. Makes me sick. It's the most trapping horrible feeling. I don't understand how some people can have these longass consistent careers...
I've always wanted to know what is wrong with me. I can not be in a job for more than 3 years, but after a year I get stressed and I cannot stand the people I am working with, I can not feel comfortable leaving the house to be at work. I get anxious, I do not how to describe it, I just don't want to go, and it feels like a battle every day. I quit jobs without reason, and my family gets worried about me, what bothers me the most is that don't know if I was doing a good job or not.
Thank you so much. I've had an 'inner battle' with myself for 30 years about THIS topic. I could never do the 9-5/ conform and get it done mentality. I've hopped jobs more than the Easter Bunny. THIS made so much sense and I personally resonated with this topic. Thank you so very much for being out here in the YT world.
I lasted at one of the longest jobs of my career by starting out on a 6 month contract. Then they said I can do another 6 months. The 6 month increments extended to 2 years before it ended. I would not have stayed that long if they told me they wanted me for 2 years to begin with!!
It's funny how having an end date can help you stay at a job lol. Sometimes I think it's the thought of being at a job for years that scares me more than the job itself lol.
We, as Americans, are trained as Children to go to school for a few months then are given several weeks off. School starts in September, then you get a month off for Christmas and New Year's. Then back to school for 3-4 months, then you get 2 weeks off for spring break. Then back to school for 3 months and then you get 3 months off in the summer. Then we join the corporate world and are expected to work a whole year straight without any significant breaks. After those 52 weeks we are offered a measly 1 week vacation until you have to go back for another 52 weeks straight. No wonder people get so burned out!
Until ai will replace us all. We all going to live in the metaverse. The only ones that will own everything is the world economic forum, united nations , all the big corporations, the people with the money. Everyone else you will own nothing and be happy
I averaged around 3 years at any employment. 6 years in a warehouse was the longest. Lately I am having trouble staying over a year anywhere. Being trapped indoors all day is slowing eroding my sanity.
Honestly, I can’t stand more than a second. But I have to pay the bills, so I suppress it but eventually get depressed over it and quit. Find another job after that and repeat. This has been going on for a decade. People are like why don’t you make money on your own? But it’s not that easy.
So glad im not the only one! I usually last 6 to 8 months at a job then it gets depressing or mundane. I always thought i was dysfunctional to but i might try seasonal jobs eventuallt, im 50 now and i know ill always be this way. Thank you Tim, i dont feel so alone nomore. 💕
Thank you so much, Tim. I was just in tears because I quit another job that was making me lose my mind and wondering what was wrong with me. I'm not cut out for a 9-5 life. Applying for some seasonal work now.
The video hits home. Oh my god. I’m in the bath deciding on which diagnoses I may have since I quit my job after my second day. Not the first time either. I don’t want to even park in the parking lot and walk into another place. I’m fed up.
I feel seen. For real. I’m trying not to see myself as broken because I don’t stick around in a job. I’ve never left because of boredom. I left because of culture fit and toxic management in those jobs.
People like us should band together to create businesses with people we can trust and have more leverage in communication and negotiation with, because we care about each other's opinions and feelings since we are working together to solve the same problem (job instability) and because we get how difficult it is to not have a stable career
I have been through handfuls and handfuls of jobs but the one who has been most lenient with me and has been my all-time favorite has been at a full-service carwash. I have quit 4 times and been rehired 4 times 🤣😩 I just can’t believe that they have put up with my need for taking random mental health sabbaticals, yet they always rehire me 🥺
Thank you Uncle ,I needed to hear this!! This helped affim my way of thinking and being. People would look at me negatively and say negative things about me for not being able to keep a job. Yesterday I cried 4 times not including today about how there's probably something wrong with me not being able to conform to societies standards with keeping a job for long periods of time to help support myself. I have ADHD (Which I feel isn't taken seriously especially if your black or of color) ,Dyslexia & Hearing Dyslexia ,PTSD ,anxiety and depression. I have excellent work ethic & I thrive at work with whats needed from me and always find myself advancing quickly at jobs. However after a while of dealing with mind numbing policy ,procedure ,discrimination ,racism ,colorism from Managers /staff /customers and ablism I found myself through with it all. After I got fired last month I said I'm never working for a regular job again. These jobs don't care about me ,workers are deemed replaceable so until Im able to finish school ,get my degree and actually do something I care about WHY NOT work for a temp agency to support myself. Thank you for the idea! Anyone looking for temp work should definitely find a agency but also use these apps in the app store to help support yourself or if you need extra cash asap: *Wonolo *BlueCrew *Instawork I hope this helps.
3 months at the same job and the night before i'm thinking "If this is all there is to life, i would just as soon be dead" I feel trapped in a place i don't want to be. I will either quit or be fired and it's nothing but relief ! Not a way to live. You spend your life starting over. edit Poverty is a misery all by itself. Income is MANDATORY ! I now work for less $$$ doing jobs i at least don't HATE. I also prefer solo. I CANNOT work side by side with other people period. I'm sure it's mutual, but i always reach the point of "i can't stand the thought of even seeing that mug one more day." You're better off, doing what you have to do, if it will eventually get you to a point of doing what you want to do. Many jobs will never get you to that point. Think outside the box.
Man, It's a blessing to hear what you've got to say. You have saved many lives headed in the wrong direction based on fear of leaving the pack and doing the unusual. you are a true mentor of mine and probably many more. I hope we cross paths sometime. It would be an honor to meet you.
I’m one that sucks at long term jobs. Once you figure it out you learn other skills like how to be very frugal and have fun doing it. You grow in appreciation of small gifts others never even notice. The freedom factor is fantastic! You know yourself, and feel more in control of your life!
I prefer remote work, or merchandising, a job where I work alone, I am not good with working with people, I always end up being bullied, I am so tired of this
Same. I got to admit that being bullied has kind of morphed me into someone to stick up for himself. I think someone made oink noises at me yesterday. Stood there looking and got a bit intimated looking at my face while i walked slow at my own pace.😂. I thought yeah. Try this insane person you're targeting because he may make you question your whole life.😂. People know how to get at you for real where it's hard to retaliate or judge if they're actually doing it. Also not having that person trying to control you feels good as you gain back control.
As a young person constantly being told that getting bored and quitting a job I am perfectly good at every 6 months simply won't fly when I'm older, and that constantly jumping between life passions is setting myself up for a miserable future - I am so grateful to hear from an older person who has been doing that and not out has enough to keep themselves alive but is also living a life they enjoy. Thank you 🙃
Not everyone have that 1 passion in life. Many people have many interests, want to try many things in life and are not afraid of change. Creative people especially dont like routine repetative things and jobs. Sooner you accept that you dont have to fit into other people's or society's norms or mold happier you will be.
Me too..I just got a job at a state university...good job, great benefits, very stable...I've been working for myself for the last 5 years...I'm so scared of just bailing after a year or so..I'm about your age and I am trying to put together a retirement...we will see! Love your content and support, Tim!
I hate a regular job. The way I have dealt with it I work full time, for a while then go to part time then go to as needed. that’s my cycle that’s what I have been doing for the last 25 year. The job I’m on now I have left twice and came back. Now I’m half way out the door again. It makes me depressed just thinking about a full time job even though I make good money as a nurse. A full time job sucks the life out of you and drives you in sane. If I could make a living doing something like picking up cans or making church paper fans I would probably do that for about 4 hrs a day, then call it day.
When you find that part time can picking job let me know, I want to do it to lol. You are so right about jobs draining you and leaving you mentally unstable. I don't think we were meant to work full time. 4 hours a day is good enough lol.
I found your comment to somebody’s post on Quora. I recently got laid off at Amazon. Only was there for over a month. I can’t seem to keep a job longer then that. I’ve had probably 7 or 8 jobs since 2017. I’m currently 33. It’s just a sucky feeling that I can’t hold down a job even at my age. Idk what to do
The 5 day, 40 hour workplace job is relatively recent in the history of man. It is not 'natural'. We have adapted to it. In recent years, workplaces have become more and more toxic and workers have had less and less autonomy. It is not healthy and it is not sustainable. The people who have been in a job long enough to have some autonomy will not leave but for newer hires, they are basically slaves so, yes, they will leave. Then, being new, they face the same thing in the next job and so the cycle continues. People were not meant to live like we live now.
I thought something was wrong with me. I really don’t like staying somewhere more than 1 year either. After I try a year around job somewhere, pay off debt and get a foundation. Then I will try to do seasonal work. I love the idea of trying it. Also it would be nice to one day just met you and just discuss life. Very inspiring.
@@alibertylover funny I been doing it for over 20 and still feel like no master. Got a gas sprayer and ran around the country doing outside walmarts. With me, I struggled through high school trying to define my lifetime career. I tried to find courses that would help me to understand what I wanted to do as an adult. I remember my high school offered an Engineering course, but I didn't take it. I spent countless hours in the library, bought countless books at the bookstore. I would spend hours trying to define my career course. I would question why I didn't keep a job long. I worked as a temporary in an agency. I had three jobs where I worked over a year and I had the same work ethic, no gossiping at work, on time every day (even on my long-term jobs), no long lunch or breaks, worked hard and asked my supervisor if there is anything else they need done, call in if I was going to be late which was rarely. I didn't talk on the phone at work. Some of those jobs through the temp agency wanted to hire me because of my work ethics and business etiquette. I come from a family where everybody worked. It was supposed to be my natural progression from graduating from high school.
I've had many jobs back when I started work in 2004 ( when I was 17) I've been terminated and quit because don't like people because they were horrible and so were the paychecks, also, not giving me good credit for doing a good job but now I'm a trucker and found I love.
Recently ive had a huge mindset shift. I began listening to my intuition and soul speak and following it. Im greatful for people like you that help inspire people to listen to there hearts/soul, because thats the only place where youll find true north.
Thank you for this video, I am one of those people and I have been going around and around wondering what's wrong with me. I know I love working by myself, but I keep thinking I must work a job like everyone else to pay the bills. So your talk has opened my eyes to a whole new world, which I am going to try.
Some jobs, such as restaurant work are like that. Servers and cooks will stay for a year or two, then quit and go to another restaurant and then another and they can usually return to any former job, because this is pretty standard to the industry. I did this as a grill cook for years and could also take time off for my own pursuits.
Honestly I cried watching this.. I thought - as you mentioned - that something was wrong with me, especially as of today.. this gave me some encouragement to keep going at it though, and try something new. I’m now subscribed and feeling a little bit better. Thank you so much!
I’ve always had this issue. I figured when I was young it was normal and I’ll grow out of it. Now thirty and starting another new job (like ten in the past 12 years). I always have potential and as soon as they bring up promotions that’s usually when I start panicking and feel the need to dip out. I’ve also been hired back to jobs I left high and dry in the past lol. My current job I already know is closing down in July and I had a realization that I have been way happier here because I know off the bat it’s short term.... I got them voices in my head bro!!! Lmao
I usually can't hold a job for more than 5 months, often with 6 months to over a year between jobs during which time I essentially lose hope of ever being hired again. Most recently I worked at a restaurant, but then the owner sold, everyone had to be fired, and the new owner decided not to rehire me. So now I'm back to square one. I have no motivation left to continue. I keep working my ass off only to be thrown aside over and over. It doesn't help that I have depression, anxiety, and a migraine disorder, not to mention mild autism. I'm nearly 34 and I don't see a future.
Thank you Tim! I’m glad that you are willing to try new things and share your experiences. I’m struggling nonstop and not breaking even. I feel like a failure in my professional life. Maybe I thought I was just immature or stupid, but maybe I just don’t fit into the system. The need for health insurance is part of the equation that keeps me locked into retail hell.
Some of us just don't fit in! We are just as mature and responsible as any other adult but our brains are wired differently. I hope you are able to find work that is meaningful and fulfilling to you in the near future. Retail hell sucks! By the way, your comment has inspired me to try and do some research on healthcare alternatives. That's probably the #1 reason people stay in jobs they don't like, it would be cool to be able to figure out some healthcare hacks for a future video.
Timothy Ward thanks Tim. I am a professional dog groomer. I absolutely love the dogs and grooming. It’s just scary to attempt the startup costs by myself. The insurance also frightens me.
@@arikaGME Arika, you might look into the following: 1) Direct Primary Care - DPC practices are physicians who don't take insurance. They charge a flat amount (typically $50 or $60/month) to each of their patients who can then visit or talk to the physician on an unlimited basis. They will usually cover typical emergency care clinic-type stuff (i.e. stitches, etc.), and arrange for you to get routine exam-type tests and any needed meds at their cost. Their cost for meds, labs, etc., are pennies on the dollar. In fact, you won't believe how cheap some stuff is. Of course, these physicians will do your exams, prescribe meds, etc. They are not a replacement for hospital care, if needed. Of course, if you travel a lot, it will be a problem because they are independent practices. Hopefully, they will network in some fashion in the future. 2) Healthshare organizations - these usually have religious affiliations but are open to everyone regardless of religion. They are not insurance but "share" the monthly costs among all members who need financial help. While they are not considered insurance, they will pay your medical bills just as an insurance company would but without deductibles or co-pays, etc. Most have an excellent track record and even better, it doesn't matter where you're at when you need medical help. They'll pay your bills. 3) Obamacare - It's still available and, if you qualify for subsidies based on income, is cheap. The downside is that the cheap cost comes with high deductibles. It's probably best to look at Obamacare as major medical coverage just in case you have a major illness or accident. However, combine Obamacare with a DPC physician and you might be able to cover yourself for most eventualities for $100 - $150/month with some minor additional expense for any prescriptions and tests.
@@arikaGME You're welcome. Just Google "Direct Primary Care" and whatever city you live in. They're not everywhere but you will likely find a few practices in or around larger cities.

I really needed to find this video. I have been struggling so much thinking I'm a failure because I don't keep a job more than a year and my family just doesn't understand it. They all think I'm lazy and I completely understand them on that. But I just cant see myself working in one place for so long. I am going to look into temp agencies, thank you for this!
I get good jobs and I catch on quick … after a few months I start to feel depressed with no motivation like I’m not fulfilled. It then becomes so bad where I call out sick and start to hate being there and I feel like I have nothing in common with people… I feel I don’t belong there and everyone starts to appear so robotic. Work to me eventually becomes so tedious and boring that I feel like I’m missing out on something else …I had a job I was at for 9 years mainly due to the atmosphere… everybody was nice and we all had our own functions so nobody was really over us … i liked that freedom …then another one I was at for 3 years which I also mainly stayed because of the people and my boss was the best boss I ever had … after I left that job in 2017 I cannot stay at jobs … and every employee has said I was such a good worker but they didn’t know why I didn’t want to be there lol I always end up hating the job and the atmosphere…and that causes me to get fired or I quit. I’m an artist and love to feel free but most of us free minded people conform to work at certain jobs we hate for money because we know We need to work. I myself have kids so I have mouths to feed but I fall into this very low energy where the job becomes depressing and it overpowers my motivation to the point where the thought of going to work makes me sick. I know I push it by missing days then I just hate it there because the worker bees start to look at you like I’m here all day every day and you’re some type of lazy person ..these feelings started In 2016… I feel out of place then self sabotage and quit or lose the job. I personally hate the high school gossip mentally in the office work environment it’s when I realize I can’t and don’t want to be like these people and it’s also very hard to find a good boss .. a lot of supervisors and managers have a God complex and it’s stressful to deal with people who’s job is their only life.
True! It feels like high school all over again and I hate it (I couldn’t stand high school neither) with the pettiness and etc. I’m going to have to stay at this current job so I can pay for things, but once I’m secure and settled in where I’m going, it’s deuces!
I relate to this on a whole nother level. I'm 27 and have been working since I was 17, The longest job I've been able to hold has been 8 months. I've done all types of work ranging from grocery, retail, food, factory, warehouse etc. I've been working factory jobs recently and I've recently gotten to the breaking point where I know I have to find another way to make money because nothing will change unless I make change. I'm not sure what i'm gonna do but I gotta do something different
I’m 27 too and i just quit another job today. Through out last year i did freelance writing(screenplay) before things took a dip. That’s the happiest job i have ever had in my life because i was working for myself but things got bad and i sold my laptop and i cannot freelance anymore. Very stupid right? I have to find a way to get back to freelancing, i did great at it. Find a way to work for yourself.
I appreciate this video and that I'm not the only one!! I'm 42 and have had over 50 jobs!! I just get told I'm not fast enough no matter how hard I try!! I like the job when I start but just doesn't last!!
I am the exact same way!!!! Wow! I thought it was only me 😂🤣😂 Thanks, Tim! I feel better knowing I'm not lazy or crazy! Btw, I went with the 3rd option; opened my own transportation company. I feel so much better and have the money to travel and spend more time with my kids. Great video, Tim! 😊
I struggle with more than 6 months. This helped me realise maybe a longer contract isn't great for me, my attention span. This video helped me open my mind. Thank you 👏
This is me all over. I realized this when I was walking to the office about 10 years ago, and just before I opened the office door, I blurted out " what the f*ck am I doing with my life ". In the weeks prior to that I can remember that my walk from the train station to the office was progressively taking longer and longer. Everybody on their way to work was walking faster than me. Since I've left that job back in 2013 I've been doing temp jobs. I don't know if I can ever return to a 'secure' job. Maybe I'd work for no more than a year; but then would have to return to temp work.
I got the same thing lol, just can't get past that one year mark. And I always get hired within a week for a new one lol.
I left my corporate America job (Healthcare) back in February of 2017. I worked there for 8.5 years.
I can't stay longer than 3 months. The longest I've stood in a job was 6 months, even my "family" thinks im an irresponsible person

Yes! Heavens knows I'm miserable now!!!!
So true - someone, a rare friendly older colleague first sang that to me and reminded me of the Smiths. My 2nd and proper full time role - it was a deeply cruel, cold introduction to the real world.

Does anyone else think this is a serious problem though - I know some people don't think too much about it at all and it's just pay check to pay check - survival. But surely some jobs out there are rewarding?

Timothy,
It's not that YOU suck at jobs, it's that jobs suck.

You're definitely not alone! I am the same way and get very bored and restless in any job at the year point. A lot of us can't conform to this 9-5 soul sucking norm of society.
Here in Vegas as well. It really be like that.

14 years sounds eternity to me
I once held the same job at Walmart for almost 14 years but I was fired twice, so it was more like 10 years straight and then I came back for another 4. But since then it's been every year a new job.

I’m glad I’m not the only one. I worked at a government job for 10 years then one day I never went back. I’ve see people that were there 30 and 40 years some never made it to retirement and some would pass soon after they retired. I always thought I needed to leave. I never wanted to see myself working there that long.

There definitely are other options out there for those if us who just arent meant to stay at jobs long term. Seasonal work might be for you!
With all your experiences, you done most jobs than most of people and doing what you want or like, there is no regrets to have from my point of view.
47 jobs at least?
That is fantastic.
Less likely to be bored that way.
2 years for me as well.
Me too, my friend. I feel the same way and I'm 51. Thank you for having the courage to share your story. Maybe all we have is knowing we're not alone in this crazy, inexplicable thing called life! Peace and much love!
Same here. I hate offices but have nearly always ended up in them due to the necessity of earning a living. Love the stuff I've done as a volunteer.
"I love boxes." Lmao, you're amazing man.
I only lasted 8 months at my job! I just don't care anymore!
It's not about caring, it's about money. Very few people genuinely give a fuck about their jobs. People just need the money.
My cheeks hurt from a smiling this whole time
😁😁
I lasted at one of the longest jobs of my career by starting out on a 6 month contract. Then they said I can do another 6 months. The 6 month increments extended to 2 years before it ended. I would not have stayed that long if they told me they wanted me for 2 years to begin with!!
It's funny how having an end date can help you stay at a job lol. Sometimes I think it's the thought of being at a job for years that scares me more than the job itself lol.
I can relate. This is especially painful when some recruiters start calling you names because of job changes.
FACTS! I'm only working a part time job but the physical labor and mind numbing work has me BURNT OUT. I'm tired and want to quit from life.
Corperations will be the fall of our society
Until ai will replace us all. We all going to live in the metaverse. The only ones that will own everything is the world economic forum, united nations , all the big corporations, the people with the money. Everyone else you will own nothing and be happy
This ☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️
Good observation! Great point!
Thank you 👏🏽
We need serious pro-worker anti-business laws to give mandatory paid vacation time and serious bargaining power to employees and workers.
Good luck on your seasonal job search Erin!
Nothing wrong with you. We're not meant for jobs like that. We're seasonal creatures by nature, needing shifts and challenges.
The video hits home. Oh my god. I’m in the bath deciding on which diagnoses I may have since I quit my job after my second day. Not the first time either. I don’t want to even park in the parking lot and walk into another place. I’m fed up.
Thanks for this video. I suck at jobs and everyone gives me a hard time about being defective. Good to hear I’m not alone ❤️
I need two whole extra hands to count the jobs I've been fired from. I really suck. Yet I continue to live.
I feel seen. For real. I’m trying not to see myself as broken because I don’t stick around in a job. I’ve never left because of boredom. I left because of culture fit and toxic management in those jobs.
People like us should band together to create businesses with people we can trust and have more leverage in communication and negotiation with, because we care about each other's opinions and feelings since we are working together to solve the same problem (job instability) and because we get how difficult it is to not have a stable career
that was in my mind really , we need to do that ! becuse our lives matters and mental health..
Im looking for business partners. Im nature, wilderness and kayaking guide. Anyone :)?
These jobs suck that’s why. They don’t treat people like human beings
Anyone looking for temp work should definitely find a agency but also use these apps in the app store to help support yourself or if you need extra cash asap:
*Wonolo
*BlueCrew
*Instawork
I hope this helps.
I quit a job after 30 minutes yesterday. The boss and employes were very upset but I trusted my gut instinct.Didnt get a good welcome.
fuck em
30 minutes 😂that must be a record
@@susanna8612 I went in there and said "fuck it, im going home". I have a new job, today.
@@TheNomad8899 lol. Good decission. Good luck for your new job!
😂😂needed this laugh I lasted an hour once!
Thank you for validating this! I thought it was because I was immature but now I’m 27 feeling the same way and it’s good to know I’m
Not alone!
I’m one that sucks at long term jobs. Once you figure it out you learn other skills like how to be very frugal and have fun doing it. You grow in appreciation of small gifts others never even notice. The freedom factor is fantastic! You know yourself, and feel more in control of your life!
Freedom! That's the key word. I can't be tied down to one job, day in and day out, forever!
Totally agree with you.
I prefer remote work, or merchandising, a job where I work alone, I am not good with working with people, I always end up being bullied, I am so tired of this
Same here
Same😊
Mine was always 3 to 4 years 4 years was the longest and I absolutely loved that one
I sick at regular jobs as well, always hated the conformity, I am now self employed so I can choose my own house to some extent.
do you do business or freelance work?
@@TimothyWard I agree!!!
Idk what to do
This was extremely comforting to watch. I’m a major job hopper at 30 years old and I feel like such a loser for it. Thank you for this 🙏🙏
Man Tim you are a delight! And *you* are speaking a lot of truth when so many people just do not want to listen.
Wow, I finally met a channel that understands :) Wish my family understood why I don't like the same old job for decades
Haha! I think some people will never understand us lol
Being a house painter the job always changes and you don't work everyday. The money is good cause nobody seems to like doing it.
@@alibertylover funny I been doing it for over 20 and still feel like no master. Got a gas sprayer and ran around the country doing outside walmarts. It's easy and something I know I can do when I'm old also. Truthfully it's been a party. There's two kinds of painters. Drunks or pot heads. I'm one and my brother is the other. Have fun friend it's a wild ride
Most people dont want to work but the problem is most people cant afford not to.
Some jobs, such as restaurant work are like that. Servers and cooks will stay for a year or two, then quit and go to another restaurant and then another and they can usually return to any former job, because this is pretty standard to the industry. I did this as a grill cook for years and could also take time off for my own pursuits.
You’re not the only one Tim!! I thought it was something wrong with me!! I am in the process now of figuring out how to create the life I Love!!! ♥️
However, combine Obamacare with a DPC physician and you might be able to cover yourself for most eventualities for $100 - $150/month with some minor additional expense for any prescriptions and tests.
blacksummerrain thank you so much for this answer. I will definitely look into it and see if anyone local participates in the direct pay option.
@@arikaGME You're welcome. Just Google "Direct Primary Care" and whatever city you live in. They're not everywhere but you will likely find a few practices in or around larger cities.
I average about 2 years and burnout from the fakeness of the people. It seems like group meetings are best for dark-triad personality types. Narcissism, Machiavellianism, and Psychopathy dominating the group and getting all the praise.
I KNEW I WASN'T CRAZY!!!! Thank you so much for this insight!!! It is everything to me!!!
I can totally relate!
You just described spot on exactly how I’ve felt at 99% of my jobs.
Same here...
True! It feels like high school all over again and I hate it (I couldn’t stand high school neither) with the pettiness and etc. I’m going to have to stay at this current job so I can pay for things, but once I’m secure and settled in where I’m going, it’s deuces!
I've stuck with my job for years due to the salary and having an excellent manager. Managers can make or break you. But I still loathe offices.
Creative people needs freedom and lot time for themselves so becoming entrepreneur is the only option.
I relate to you so much. I needed this especially after tonight. Work was so painful. I was on my feet for a 12 hour shift.
Find a way to work for yourself.
this is why I call off work a lot!! I can't stand these dead-end jobs
Thank you for sharing! I don't feel so alone!
Thank you, thank you. I knew I couldn't be the only one who was always on a time limit with these jobs. I appreciate you sharing😊
Thank you 👏
Keep living an authentic life and inspiring others through it! Thank you! :)
13 weeks is my limit. I get so tired of doing the same thing and can’t stand the grind.
Glad you figured out a way to make it without having to sell your soul and freedom at that office lol!!
My exact work career/experience up to this point in my life
I like this dude!! Lmao!!
Job is like a fish tank, Nimo growing to be a sharks, and the tank be to small, hahaha
How do you get your health coverage? Thank you!
