Thank you so much for caring about those in Florida. I was born and raised in Florida. Much of my family and my very best friend are down there right now under evacuation order. I, myself, have been through between 20-30 hurricanes in my life, but none as strong as this. I’ve gone through hurricanes that were almost as strong as a 5 at landfall: Ivan and Andrew were horrible, but Milton brings with it tornadoes stemming out of the blue and I’ve never seen that, so I’m terrified for them. Floridians know exactly how to handle hurricanes, but not the extremity of this plus the tornadoes. We don’t get tornadoes down there. Thank you for donating to the relief fund. You’re right, every little bit helps. In Florida they don’t have basements because the aquifers are only 6 to 10 feet underground, so they only have attics, aka no underground shelter from tornadoes. Much of my family has had to evacuate, but some stayed because they said they “know how to handle this“ and that’s just ignorant given the tornadoes, but whatever. We don’t know what’s going on with them right now. You’re correct; they need time to preserve their energy and keep moving forward.
