I've been looking for medium gloves for occasional sidesword and saber fencing. I'm from North America so getting the Fenice would be too expensive, and instead I'm looking at the High Guard v3 gloves from Purpleheart Armoury. Recently I had the chance to try them out and from what you describe they seem to be kind of the North American counterpart of the Fenice, although I did notice the knuckles of the High Guard are not as protected as the Fenice.
The High Guard are super bulky for any sidesword or similar weapon, unfortunately. For Saber, Arming, and Messer they should be fine. Take a long time to break in. Very stiff out of the box and I find mine press on my thumb very hard.
Looks like you are dabbing into Radaellian sabre...maybe we can expect Federico sabre tutorial soon? :D Anyway, who is the maker of your gymnasium sabre? They look quite good finished.
I partecipated last month to italian National qualifications in sidesword and buckler. I have been lended the Fenice gloves SIZE L and they fit great both the sword and buckler. No problems on mobility, Just some on personal skill😂😅
We bought a pair last year they had no protection on the side of the index finger. We were surprised, it make no sense since they protected the pinky. We found they were useless for anything without a large saber guard. Now they have a hole between the index and the thumb, I guess we got them early the production was not reliable
Are there any other one-handed gloves you'd be able to compare these against? My experience is limited to Purpleheart Armoury's highguard gloves and Thokk gloves, and I'm on the search for good one-handed gloves in the US.
I've tried them and I prefer the high guard/thokks, I felt very restricted in the wrist with the Fenice, especially extension. It was a first edition but it doesn't seem like they changed
@@joshmarten-brown7220 I really want them too bad it's only in one size that don't fit. These ones are half the price of the thokks and princes so they might do for now
@@develascofuente uhm well it greatly depends from which kind of training messer you use. With a thin blade, most probably yes. If the shape is more wide bladed and point heavy it’s a little risky.

I'd love to see how they compare with my current choice for sidesword, the Thokks

@@chanalan7670 check under the previous video, in the comments you find the contacts. Is called Andrea Scrollavezza anyway ;-)
Cool new stuff! Oh not for longsword...bye! 😂
@@Laleluna89 ahahahahahah. I know the feeling
They seem interesting ! Have you been able to fence with one of these gloves directly in a buckler and being able to move normally with them ?

@gmMendi The latter problem can always be solved at least :)

@@xaqueforrest1796 I can’t easily compare them to others as I mainly use mitten gloves with my usual weapons of choice.
@FedericoMalagutti that's my problem too. 😆 Thanks for the reply and the review!

I would highly recommend HF armory's black princes they are hard shell all over but less bulky than my thocks

You think can be usted for messer?
I think so. The only weapon I would avoid is longsword. And I find them a bit too heavy for rapier, although I have seen people using them.

Do you recoment this gloves to heavy longsword sparring?
No, I say in the first minute of the video they aren’t meant for longsword
@FedericoMalagutti thanks for the answer
