Spent a couple of weeks in Grimey with relations early 70s. Loved it, the people, and the accent which I brought back to Dublin and annoyed friends by re-naming things like-Sweets (Spice) etc. I hassled our local shops to stock things like, Tizer and Dandelion and Burdock drinks but to no avail. What struck me even as a young kid was the sense of community;the going in and out of each others houses(same as Dublin) and each household taking just the allotted pale of coal from the pile on the road and it's traces swept up after each had their fill. Got to rat tat tat on the Grimethorpe Colliery Bands snare drum during a garden fete.I enjoyed this documentary very much, well done to all involved.
grimethorpe and brierley wa alreight till we were trampled on by the bloody govt. you kicked the life out of our families.im older now but am stronger than ever and we will never forget;
