Thank you, this was very helpful. I haven't used my ps3 in like 8 years. Maybe longer. Yea, that's how long it has been. Can't even remember. 😂 Video was very helpful. So thanks again.
And what do you do when the connection fails? Mine just refuses to connect to the internet. It was working fine, and now it's not. Just like that. No changes.
Has the password changed by any chance? Or could an automatic update have changed something on the router? Might be worth trying to reconnect and see if that works.
All of my details are correct, but when I go to connect to it there are like 4 different options saying WPA2-PSK (AES). The first one says 92% signal strength, the second one 90%, the third one says Not Supported with 90%, and the fourth one says 90%. Keep in mind this is all under one network, so I tried all of them but they all fail to connect. The error says “A connection to the access point could not be established. Check the security settings for the wireless LAN.”
Sounds like you might have a mesh network with multiple access points, all broadcasting the same WiFi Name. Always connect to the access point with the strongest signal. The error also suggests that the password may be correct. Please double check as it's case sensitive (enter it exactly as it's written).
i just checked my wifi router and i dont see anything that tells me about my wpa key, im using an xfinity router and i checked the bottom and i found nothing, what now ?
Recently Spectrum replaced my router. My console works as it supposes up to 1:34 in the video then disappointment starts. I press enter or X button to input the network password and nothing happen. The screen goes dim and no internet. My Dr. Google guesses that the new router has new protocols which don't work on pS3. I have no idea what to do next.
I get stuck right when the Ps3 scans. It either times out from scanning or finds absolutely nothing. I actually didn't even know a list of networks would pop up 😭 Is this sounding like a hardware issue on my end?
It could be a hardware issue, or the networks in your area are not compatible with the PS3. The hardware is very old now and most WiFi networks are using newer standards.
@@XTREMEPSX that's fair, seems like the general consensus online is between those two issues. I guess I can still use it offline, but i picked this console up specifically to mod it :/ is there any way I can adjust my Network somehow?
@@XTREMEPSX I have no experience with wired connection honestly. I plugged in what I believe to be an Ethernet cable into my Ps3 and into the wall. But as I write this, I imagine I'd have to have it plugged into my modem hey?
Oh. I've not come across that before. I would be keen to investigate it. But if that is the case, the SSID can be changed, but it does mean all devices would need to be reconnected to the new SSID.
As long as you can enter all 12 digits it should work. The PlayStation is masking the key and maybe making it look like 8 digits, even when it's longer. Give it a try and let me know how it goes
I'm at my wit's end with this garbage console in 2024. It was working months ago last time I used it but now gives some generic error when trying to connect. Obtains my IP just fine, no chances in router settings whatsoever, trying to look up if there's any new firewall nonsense or anything, but nope, denied no matter what I seem to try. Just fails the internet connection every single time despite every single other piece of tech in my home connecting no problem. Just get the same DNS error 80710102 response every time I try it. What the fuck is wrong with this thing?
When I followed her instructions, my console connected perfectly. Haven't had it set up for like 8 years, maybe more. Couldn't even remember how to do it, which is why I am here. It is currently doing the software update. Now have to setup another Playstation account seeing how this one on the PS3 has expired.
@@XTREMEPSX I meant it not help for me, because it still not connect even the net is working fine. It takes the ip but when step to test connection, it says failed.
It worked perfectly bro! Thank you!

Same here I've tried everything
It’s been awhile hasn’t it? 😂
My PlayStation 3 is still connected and running fine. 🙏🏻
Yes, I was surprised how long it's been! And having newer recording equipment means the new video is so much better than the original.
It just says “attempt to obtain IP address has timed out”
@@XTREMEPSX Facts.
That usually means the password is incorrect.
Perfect 👌👍
Thank you so much!
it just says "cannot find an access point"
Your PS3 might not be compatible with your WiFi as it's an old device.
@@XTREMEPSX i fixed it i just plugged it to ethernet
@@pixelexplorer2284 Mine wouldn't even work that way. Even tried another PS3. Nothing.
F sakes this sucks I have to use hotspot now
Same for me. Ethernet won't even work. I have a FAT PS3. Sux to say but I think it done. I'm pissed

i just checked my wifi router and i dont see anything that tells me about my wpa key, im using an xfinity router and i checked the bottom and i found nothing, what now ?
It might be called "Network Key" or "Password". Check the label on the route. It might be on the bottom of the router.
@@XTREMEPSX i checked again and i still dont see anything, all i see is
CM MAC
MTA MAC
WAN MAC
is it any of those ?
No, it's none of those. Any other labels or information on the router?

It could be that the new protocols don't work with the PS3. If WiFi doesn't work, you would have to rely on a wired Ethernet connection instead.
If you get a connection point error that says cannot connect to access point.
Get a 2 band wifi extender. That solved my issue
Thank you brother
Thank you so much
Thanks bro respect 🫡
Mine just doesnt show the wireless option for some reason and i have all the settings to make sure i can....
Some PS3 models didn't have WiFi. That could be the reason.
it has the IP but the internet connection fails every time i test it
You can try restarting both your PS3 and Router to see if it helps with the issue.

@wasuh464 the fallback is to use a wired ethernet connection to get online.

Have you changed your WiFi / router in the last 10 years? It's probably because the PS3 doesn't work with newer WiFi standards.
@ yes and I just factory restored it took all day yesterday i guess I’m fd

Why not?
@@XTREMEPSX I meant it not help for me, because it still not connect even the net is working fine. It takes the ip but when step to test connection, it says failed.
The IP failing usually means the password is incorrect. Double check it's been typed out correctly - it's case sensitive.
