  • I found this tool box of Craiglist for $50 and it added an extra 10 square feet to our bus. There is so much wasted space under the bus that you can capitalize on.
    Here is a list of the other tools we have used.
    Air Ratchet amzn.to/2PGM5SG
    Impact Driver amzn.to/2NRCHsL
    Angler Grinder amzn.to/2OXjhDc
    Twisted Wire Brush Wheel amzn.to/2MJnoQL
    Grinder Disc amzn.to/2Bh5EXw
    Gloves amzn.to/31hsqsU
    Breathing Mask amzn.to/31hmPmC
    Paint Brush amzn.to/32jNFLZ
    Paint Roller amzn.to/2Br8LMV

    I would build a brace for u under that box to help support it so u can put some real weight in it and watch for corrosion on the aluminum between the steel where it mounts it will rot the aluminum out having to dissimilar metals touching

    Drowsy driving is just as dangerous as drunk driving! 😝
    Good score on the box. It looks nice. Probably should store only light & bulky items since it's hanging from the top & we have some awful roads here. 👍🏻

    • @BackroadPurpose
      @BackroadPurpose  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha agreed! this box will more then likely hold some camp chairs and out longboards or some outside toys for Milo. So nothing too crazy/

    Please tell me you added MANY more Braces and bolts to that storage box!!! Those tiny bolts will tear through in a VERY Short time!!.

    • @BackroadPurpose
      @BackroadPurpose  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did add two more bolts. and did increase the washer size. We dont plan for putting anything heavy in there either. It'll certainly the do the job for us.

  • @lpis45
    @lpis45 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think you should support with a frame or straps. Put enough weight in and you will probably end up loosing it on the road.

    • @BackroadPurpose
      @BackroadPurpose  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good suggestion. But we dont intend to add a bunch of stuff down there. There's 4 3/16 bolts in it with a 1"washer on each. There would have to be a lot of weight for it to break.

    • @charlotte97838
      @charlotte97838 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Backroad Purpose while your driving your bus think of the extra stuff you put on it as going through an earth quake and tornado at the same time. If you don’t have straps and a lot bigger bolts it will fail. Just sayin.

      Yes! Check FB and CL. Search cargo box, tool box, toolbox, bed box, all of those usually bring up different posts

    What a great idea! What are you going to do for your open ended rub rails on the side of the boxes?
    Your video made us think using boxes on either side of the bus would be a great entrance for pass through storage!
    Thanks for sharing your progress!

    • @BackroadPurpose
      @BackroadPurpose  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm just going to tack up a piece of metal to close it off. And we thought about the same idea but our frame rails are massive so unless the box hung a lot lower then the bus, we would only have like a 6inch boxon the middle side. So I didn't think it was worth it. We also plan on putting our generator and propane tank on the other side after I reroute the exhaust.

    • @BEAdventurePartners
      @BEAdventurePartners 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Backroad Purpose very well thought out! We like the idea on mounting a generator for another source of power when there hasn’t been enough solar production.
      Keep rocking it, y’all!

    What bit did you use to drill through the floor?

    • @BackroadPurpose
      @BackroadPurpose  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe it was a 1/4.Just big enough for the bolt to fun through!

    Where did u get the storage boxs?? And where did u screw it n at it was too dark

    • @BackroadPurpose
      @BackroadPurpose  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got the box off Facebook Market Place! It was like $50. It's a flatbed storage box. And I just bolted it up through the top of the box into the floor. 4 5/16 bolts.

  • @StevenNorth-1
    @StevenNorth-1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How has this held up over time? Just curious if those bolts have pulled out of the box at all.

    • @BackroadPurpose
      @BackroadPurpose  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its been great. I did run 2 extra bolts since I had them but ever before that it seemed super solid!

    • @StevenNorth-1
      @StevenNorth-1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BackroadPurpose thanks for the response! I'm going to add a storage box under bus, but figured I'd need to add a frame to support it. Your method is way easier.

    • @BackroadPurpose
      @BackroadPurpose  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StevenNorth-1 yeah man no problem! I just made sure I had a big washer underneath so the bolt wouldn't pull through. A 1" washer is what I used. Going bigger never hurts.

  • @robvancamp2781
    @robvancamp2781 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wonder if you shouldn't have used much larger washers, and maybe doubled them.

    • @BackroadPurpose
      @BackroadPurpose  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did actually upgrade for a 1.5" just for peace of mind.

  • @ZeroEntropy.

    Isn't it upside down? I would have mounted the other way and installed some struts on the doors. Your way's easier, I rarely choose that way which is why I'm so good at doing nothing ( :

    • @BackroadPurpose
      @BackroadPurpose  ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol I though about it but then I'd also have to crouch down lower to get underneath the door into the box this way gives me a little fold down table. E
