I saw Hans' movie 6 years ago thanks to that I went to Gambia to see how much it costs to build such a boat Then I met a woman there A wonderful woman and started a family Now I have a kid Thank you very much Hans You are a wonderful man who gave me a new life
Absolutely stunning boat. If I had the skill time and money I would love to build and sail one myself, but think I would like some sort of cabin on deck for protection from storms. Different I know, but reminds me of the daddy of all Wharram's!
I spent my time in the US Navy travelling aboard two Knox Class Frigates around the Globe. I truly do miss the sea! Good to see this ancient technology still plies the oceans... What a fine vessel! Fair Winds and Following Seas!
Where is Ontong Java heading too and where was she coming from before she entered the Azores ? I liked the music very very much but I missed the Southern Cross song that I associate with Ontong Java and Han's . All the Best to Hans and his crew 111
on one hand I'm glad that there are people who preserve my heritage out there. on the other hand It's sad to see foreigner did this instead of my own people whose majority didn't even know how great their ancestor's sailing skills are
Yup, and adding the sail handling here was poor as was the boat handling, which was simply embarassing. They can't have got that far with such performances so what was going on?
@@kevinu.k.7042 The sail handling was poor because Hans let his crew mates do it, which were lacking experience... Ontong Java sailed through the pacific with ease, So it got pretty far ;)
One could reason that without "foreigners" having these boats built, the traditions might have died since the places which these types of boats originated are mostly in economic hardships due to the lack of industrialization
Um, I don't think Polynesian sailing canoes had jibs. But then again, if you're going to debauch the boat with an engine, you may as well add, shall we call them, "culturally appropriated Western Civilization" sails. Just sayin'.

Hans in the video He definitely paid much more because he didn't know the local prices

Great drone footage! And nice to see them raising the sail.
People that think Christopher Columbus is the first to sail across an ocean are living under a rock lol
Magnificent boat
I love the boom!
Hans, like his father, a true sailer extraordinaire.
Absolutely stunning boat.

Hello they came from Caribbeans then they stop on Azores for couple days and then head to Penixe, (Berlin gas) on main land, Portugal
beautiful. seems to be easier to control then modern vessels.
Круто!

There is no such thing as foreigner we are all the same family. We are all humans on spaceship Earth.
@@callmebigpapa You have a point. However roots and heritage are real too. Yet still we are all the same family.

Beautiful video! What's the name of the music?
Moseft suyana
@@sousarogers I think the particualr song is "raise your voice" Mose ft. Suyana
@@callmebigpapa Yes! From 2018 album, Medicine Woman.
What sail rig is that?
Awesome boat.
it's a crab claw sail rig
What a fabulous boat, I’m guessing this is with the new owners, didn’t Hans Klaar sell her and build another?
Yes I believe he's sold the first one and build this second one
This is the second boat ;)
The mast looks to be a bit skinny, or am I just talking out of turn?
Love Hans' work.
That's a true boat plan hopefully get one like it or a real Chinese Junk.
Any true authentic Asian boats. Plan to go back to Indonesia.
