    He ended up doing 1 rep four more times within the next 10 minutes. His third was the cleanest, but no one was not recording.

    Currently, I do not have him touching the bar to his chest (my preferred method.) The reason on not having him go past horizontal is because some evidence has shown that it can increase the chance of injury (he is still young and developing his base frame.) Not going past horizontal technically counts as you can see a lot of competitions where the bencher dramatically arches his/her back (most often underpowered women) while utilizing an ultrawide grip in effort to only have a few inches of range while still being able to hit horizontal and “have the rep count.” Once I feel his joints ect. have become seasoned to pressing heavy weight, I will start having him touch his chest (past horizontal) as I feel this to be the correct way (and how I do it) to do a bench press rep without cheating.
