It is cool to see how special these games are to you. A lot of top game lists I see today are just variations of the best games. I don't mind that but I like it when someone does a list of good games that are also special to them and have stories to go with them.

I love how you have these great memories with your Grandfather. I was always at my grandparents growing up. My Grandfather was an amazing person in my life and sadly he passed away in 2012, a year to the day of my daughter's birth. But I have all these great memories of him and I tell my kids about him all the time. Great list bud... all solid games.

I loved this video! I always like to hear what games you guys like, but the nostalgia stories really make it special. We didn't have an NES, but anytime I was somewhere that did, I played it as much as I could!

My favourite memory of Mario 3 was seeing it in the movie The Wizard. We didn’t get the big commercials or Nintendo Power in Ireland. To find out what new games were out we had to go to the video store or Toymaster. When I seen it in The Wizard myself and my brother went bezerk. We’re 40 now and it’s still our fav game.
Man all these games bring back memories a happy time for me for sure, thanks for the nostalgia brother I appreciate it.

I have so much nostalgia for the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles... I could never figure out how to get passed the turtle van section but it was so good. Still havent finished it to this day.

Here my top 10 best games for combining gameplay, fun, and nostalgia as a kid in the 80s and 90s:
10. Mike Tysons Punchout: Just barely pushed Contra off the list but I have better memories with it even if I don't have the reaction time to get very far anymore. Love that Jogging song.
9. Solar Jetman: Almost put this one higher because it has just about everything I love in an NES game...but the brutal last boss run kinda hurt it. Blaster Master would have taken its place on the list but I didn't play it till my 20s so too little nostalgia
8. Castlevania 2 Simons quest: Yeah I'm one of those weirdos but its all about the nostalgia, exploration, and freedom it offered across the Transylvania countryside. For all its flaws, I still have better memories than with 1 and 3 eventhough they are better games. Its kind of the first Metroidvania and I've been addicted to those ever since. Bloody Tears is still my favorite Castlevania song..
7. Super Mario 2: Such mysterious levels for a Mario game...so much wtf factor when I first played it...such great memories...
6. Zelda: Beat both quests. Great memories. Overall I like Crystalis better but I have little to no Nostalgia with it since I didn't play it until my 20s so it doesn't make this list.
5. Mega Man 2: So much fun and great memories, I played Mega man 3 too late in my NES gaming to make this list
4. River City Ransom: So much fun and RPG freedom and I ultimately like this approach to a fighting game better than double dragon series
3. Double Dragon 2: The atmosphoere and Nostalgia factor still beat out River City Ransom for this list. Best 2 player memories I have
2. Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2: What can I say, I got caught in the 80s Ninja Craze and I like these too equally to decide. Both incredible stories for their time. The first game Wins nostaglia here while the second wins gameplay. Same amount of fun for both even if Ninja Gaiden 1 was much more frustrating...I'm mean come on, what kind of a game makes you suffer the last 3 levels just cause you died on one of the 3 end boss battles!..but still. Ninja Gaiden 3 was awesome too but just couldn't count it among these two the same way.
1. Super Mario 3: No surprises here. This game even surpassed the insane hype..thats just not suppose to happen! While my nostalgia factor is QUITE as high on this as some of the others on the list, its just too darn awesome.
I love videos like this because they are very genuine and the childhood memories are easy to relate to. I'd love to see more videos like it, and any system or topic would be fine. As for my top 10, I'm using a similar list of games I like and grew up with and not necessarily the best NES games, and I'm excluding the mario games because that would just take up 3 slots. In no particular order:
1. Iron Tank
2. Castlevania 2
3. Megaman 2
4. Disney's Adventures in the Magic Kingdom
5. The Legend of Zelda
6. Legacy of the Wizard
7. Monster Party
8. Tetris
9. Contra
10. Punch Out
SNES, Genesis, TG16, Gameboy, GBA, N64, Master System, PS1, PS2, GameCube, Wii.....would love to see top (favorite) 20 lists for all of them.

I agree with vdgjolly, it is good to see the love for the games show through. I would love to see the others follow suit and do something like this. It helps us get to know who you guys are beyond just the fart and poop jokes and game chasing. (Not that there is a problem with that, just saying, it is nice to see more of who you guys are).

Great pair of vids, Billy, keep it up. I am probably the only person interested in this, but I'd love to see your favourite Atari ST games.
I know a lot of computer games from that era were inferior console/arcade ports, but I still have some very fond memories of some ST (or at least computer) exclusives -- I shared a pic of my collection on Twitter a week or two ago, consisting of pretty much all the games (as in, the actual same boxed copies!) I grew up with, and I still enjoy breaking a bunch of them out, especially stuff like the Psygnosis games.

Cool list. All great games. Of games you didn't mention, some of my favs are Snake Rattle N Roll, Solstice, and Mega Man 1. MM1 is mostly nostalgic. It was the first game I got other than the bundled Mario and TMNT. Keep up the good work!

I would totally love to see more like this. I think Mega Man 2-4 are some of the best games on the NES.
Great video! Super Mario Bros. 3 would also be my #1, I played that thing to death and is something I can go back to at any time and have just as much fun. Now I'm able to share the experience with my young kids!
My Mega Man 2 Memories - also rented, didn't own it right away. Remember my cousins from 10 hours away out of town came in on Thanksgiving while i was just sitting playing Wily stage 2. I know how you feel with irreplaceable memories the game is so good

It’s amazing how many times when my phone rings to the toon of Mega Man 2 Dr Wily Stage, people’s eyes light up and comment how it is the best game.

Billy your #1 favorite NES game is the same as mine. Super Mario Bros. 3 is also my #1 all time favorite video game. Of all the NES games I played and loved as a kid that make me nostalgic today, none can compare to SMB3.
also I didn't realize you were talking about Christmas when you got Ninja turtles 2 so in my head I'm thinking your grandma put a gift for you outside in a tree.

Yes I would very much like to see your top 20 snes and genesis games since I didn't grew up with the nes. I also did enjoyed your nostalgia segments because you remind me why I also enjoyed playing video games with my family. And yes Super Mario Bros 3 is the best NES game hands down. But I grew up with the GBA version so that one is my personal favorite.

The TMNT I had as a kid always glitched out on me, I was so close to beating it a few times and it glitched so bad I could not make out the screen.
Loved this two parter!
Missed out on owning an NES as a kid, though every friend and cousin I had owned one! Since about this time last year, I've been filling that missing part of my childhood, which is why most of the titles on my list (obvious choices though they may seem) are relatively new to me.
10) Ninja Gaiden. The latest amendment to my list, this game was fun from the moment I first turned it on. Right now, I'm stuck on the Act III boss, and I've heard countless tales of how it only gets harder from there, but I love it. And you're right.... Unlimited continues = NO EXCUSES.
9) Dr. Mario. Of all the games on the list, this has to be the one I struggle the most with its placement. How can you not love figuring out how to eliminate all those pesky viruses? I find this game highly addictive, and have devoted countless hours to playing it, but there is one other puzzle game out there that I love more.
8) Metroid. This one should be higher, but I haven't yet devoted enough time to beating it. It's one of those games where I've conquered the SNES sequel first (and Super Metroid is one of that system's very best games!) The Brinstar theme is one of my favorite NES tracks.
7) Tetris. Probably the most glaring omission from both the Virtual Console and the NES Classic, Tetris is a timeless classic, and the ultimate puzzle game. There have been countless revisions and off-shoots, but you can't go wrong with the original.
6) Punch-Out!!. Regardless of whether your skills bring you to a championship bout with Mike Tyson or with Mr. Dream, the exhilaration of triumph cannot be expressed with words. I can remember as a kid being so frustrated because I couldn't get any further than Piston Honda in the Minor Circuit.
5) Super Mario Bros. Like most who were kids in the mid to late 1980's, SMB was my introduction to Nintendo. It wasn't until I got Super Mario All-Stars for the SNES that I was able to beat it (the Hammer Bros. on World 8-3 ALWAYS killed me). Now, it's so familiar that it takes me about 5 minutes. Love that Castle theme.
4) Castlevania. Though almost everyone I knew had an NES, no one had Castlevania. So it wasn't until last year that I finally played it. One of the hardest games I've encountered (so far), and the hardest one that I've actually beaten. I've since gone through and beaten Castlevania 2 and Super Castlevania 4.
3) The Legend of Zelda. In terms of childhood nostalgia, no other NES game fits the bill quite like this one. Every time I play it, I am instantly transported back to 1988 in the basement of my best friend's house. The Dungeon theme still haunts my dreams occasionally. I never was able to play it long enough to get far, and so made it a mission to finally complete the task... which I did last July.
2) Mega Man 2. My favorite entry in my favorite NES franchise. The soundtrack is the greatest of any video game ever. And how can you not love using the Metal Blades? Again, this was a game (and a franchise) which I had either limited or no experience with until a year ago. I credit Mega Man 2 with being the game which reignited my passion for gaming. It is perfection. For all these reasons and more, it's my 2nd favorite NES game, but that's only because of....
1) Super Mario Bros. 3. I don't think anyone who is experienced with the NES needs convincing of this game's greatness. Like The Legend of Zelda, I still remember where I was the first time I played it. It was one of the first NES games I ever beat, and is the one I go back to the most often.
You know, I'm with you man I had the first turtles as well as a kid and it was stupid hard and still I haven't beaten it but damn did I love it.
I would defiantly like to see a top 20 SNES list from you as well. This was a great watch. And I'm on team Mega Man 3 over MM2 as well, even though they are both fantastic games! Probably because I was in the same boat a you, played MM3 first and then went back to play 2 after. Top 10 NES games in no order would be: Battletoads, Bubble Bobble, Castlevania, Journey to Silius, Super C, Mario 3, TMNT 1, 2, 3 and Mega man 3

05. Sesame Street 123/ABC (LOVED this game cause of it having my favorite characters of all time Sesame Street Muppets)

03. Win, Loose or Draw (Really fun yeah the grapics weren't all the great but still fond memories of playing this with my friends and family)
02. Duck Hunt (can't remember if I had that on my 11-20 NES games but still good game to play especially if you had it with the Super Mario Bros.)
01. Super Mario Bros. 3 (Yes same here LOVE this game played it every time I had a chance to play it. One of my best memories)

I did not expect Gremlins 2 lol! I happen to have that game, i bought it at one of those stupid pawnshops because i tought it looked like fun haha. Maybe i should give it a try again.
Totally agree about how u made your list. If people would factor in their personal nostalgia into consideration, these lists would be much more entertaining given it wouldn’t be the same dang games mentioned over and over again. So yeah, kudos, lol, more people should start doing that.
