- Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, speaker of the Niger state house of assembly, says he is only sponsoring the wedding of 100 girls in his constituency - not marrying them off.
Sarkindaji had announced his intention to sponsor the wedding of 100 orphan girls who lost their parents in banditry attacks in Mariga LGA of the state - as part of his constituency projects.
The development elicited reactions from the public, with many asking why the girls were not enrolled in school instead.
Reacting in a statement by Shamsudeen Binaira, his senior special assistant on communication, Sarkindaji said the girls are of marriageable age, and that some of them already had their suitors but could not finance their wedding. #NaijaEntertainmentNews

Ah, this gives me a more nuanced perspective of the issue. Initially I was shocked to hear about 100 girls getting married off because in the US the word girls means a female child under 18. IF these women are above 18, they're choosing to get married, and this program is helping them get married and providing their dowry THEN I think this is a good program.
I think the objective words you need to examine is choice

For me, in this matter, i agree with Tope's viewpoint
what we are saying is as long as it’s cultural it’s OK even if it is not in the best interest of the person you guys are the same people that complained about the guy that took out naked pictures of his child on the Internet, but you are supporting in the name of cultural possible forced marriage women who are being told that the only option they have is to seek a husband make this make sense
