I decided to sell a bunch of fully hand made and sheathed one inch Sloyds for $25. I sold about 30 of them, but the hours I poured in were brutal. However, I will say that that put my knives in folks hands at a slow point for me and I’ve had a fair amount of repeat customers through it. However I swore to never sell for that low again, as last time I checked I’m not a robot😂
i always tell my customers that my goal is to build a knife that will outlast themselves with the joke that they should think about which grandkid would love it in the future but build one tailored to themselves 😂 works always 50% of the time.
In Amerikwa all you need to do is make everything on CNC machines, with little to no hand work and be sure to leave all the milling marks and grinding scratches. Charge 5-10 times what it's worth and the dummies will buy it like it's going out of style.

Marty is correct. I forge/smith all my wears and found what Marty is saying is an unfortunate addition to otherwise healthy competition. I'll tell you though, I'd rather hammer in my bevels any day of the week over the hastle of grinding EVERYTHING. 😅
Hi Jack - great question. It depends on a number of factors including your budget, how much time you have to use whatever platform you have, but ultimately, who do you want to sell to (as this will dictate whether these audiences would be on TikTok or Instagram or Thread, Twitter etc).

I am making hunting and utility / bushcraft knives and so far I have either bartered, gifted or sold knives to friends and acquaintances and apart from a short spell with Etsy I haven’t done anything online
As far as I’m aware ou can make, and sell to anyone over 18, any edged item that’s not on the UK.gov website’s banned list. Don’t search for what you CAN make but rather for what you can’t
Hi Rat Axe! Thanks for the question! Finding a niche is not difficult, but takes time and practice to find your one. A niche is a LOT less generalised than “chef knives” or “camping knives”. A rough example of a niche is “petite culinary knives for vegetarian home-cooks. It sounds specific, as it’s meant to. The only thing you have to understand is you can’t just randomly create a niche (just like I did hahaha). It has to work for your specific knowledge, skills and background. I am happy to make another video on a deep dive on finding your niche if that helps?
I'm enjoying your videos, thanks, I wish we had knife making supply shops where I live. I'm thinking of a niche, to make medium to large barbecue knives, not for eating with, for the cooking part of the barbecue, more for showing off than necessity, Unless cutting big pieces.

Any suggestions for finding niches in the UK market? Chef knives and camping knives are the obvious ones but lacking inspiration for others.. :-(
