If you're not a professional musician, your time is your own. Rerecord as much as you want.

Tip 8 - Get hold of as many of those Joe Gilder courses as you can. As someone who’s taken more than a fair few I can guarantee that you will learn a tonne and have a lot of fun doing so.

If you set certain parameters correctly when starting a new song, you can change the tempo even after the final mix. I recently recorded a song at 92 bpm, but as the producer, I felt it was too slow, so I bumped it up to 110. But when the singer came in to record her vocals, she felt it was too fast and would not be able to enunciate some of the tricky lines in the chorus, so we finally settled on 102 bpm.

Great tips Joe. Recording to a click - ok for me as I'm a drummer and I'm used to it. For others, the click is very unnatural and they often struggle with it. Instead I've created a simple kick/snare/hats click track and it seems easier for others to lock into that sound better than the annoying metronome click. PS: I'm loving the Amen EP. Cheers ….

I just use a drummer track on Logic and then replace it later - for me it's easier than recording to a click BUT I keep a click track in my template for others who will be recording on top of it.

All of my instruments plug into a mixer (Cerwin-Vega CVM 1224FX USB, that's a mouthful). The main outs from the mixer go to a Tascam US 2x2 interface and on to the computer and DAW. Would there be any advantage to running a DI box on my bass and guitars as opposed to just plugging straight into the mixer as it had 6 channels with pre's? My bass is a Rick 4001 and my main guitar is a Gibson Flying V and I use Mercuriall Spark as an amp sim on the guitar. Thanks for all of the vids!!!

Man, i just love your videos, thanks a lot for your precious and priceless advices.
I record myself, and i also record other peoples (we do hiphop, but some formulas are good for many styles i guess), and i got too often into arguments about putting the "Click" on, they think it's disturbing, but they don't see how useful it is to keep on with the beat, specially on a 93.00 RPM track for example.
Also, i would like to ask you something : i would love to put subtitles on your videos (in French), to show it to my peoples around here, could that be possible?

I got into a argument sometime ago with a kid that was saying that clipping was the new way to record and that OLD pep like me (52) where wrong LOL ... he probably didn`t know what clipping was. When I get someone freaking out about playing to a click I just fire up my Superior Drummer 3 and just do a quick beat and if it`s drummer and he can`t play to a click track I tell him to find a new obey maybe like collecting stamps ... problem solved. Thanks for your GREAT video

For those of you on the fence about spending the money for a Joe Gilder course - GET OVER IT! I took 10 Day EP ("San Ysidro" to be released later this year!!) and it was the best investment I've ever made. Took my skills from A to ZZZ! Quantum leap. And consider "All Access" - what a bargain Joe offers - all of his courses, the Forums - everything. And Joe - the Sweetwater T - awesome! Best music store on the planet (Shout out to my man Brandon Eden!)

some performances don't need a click. If there is unique tempo changes... maybe even subtle ones, then go with . Maybe you can track to it after as well if your into the pocket.... it really depends on the artist and the song.

Hey Joe! I recently recorded a 5 piece band using a laptop into a presonus 24r rack mixer. Each had their own headphone mixes that were created in studio one going through a beringher headphone distributor unit. While we were recording we all started to get pops throughout the recording process. We couldn't figure out the problem would you have any suggestions.

I'm always surprised at how controversial the click track is. I've played to a click even back in middle school band many moons ago and prefer playing to a click, but I've run into more than a few people that can't stand them. Most of them seem to be drummers. :-)

stereolaunch I play Mexican music, with an Accordionist in my band, and he HATES the click! (Might be cause he cant keep up with it) Its so hard to record with him because he claims it sounds just as good without a click track. I dont agree.

That's funny. I've never had that problem with the musicians I have dealt with. Singing to the click is ok. But I have learned from musicians I need to listen within. Thank you though for your info and expertise. Rerecord oh oh I am wrong for not doing that. I am afraid of trying to be a perfectionist. Thanks again. Hahaha

I have been off of pushing music through my system and just trying to work all the time and play guitar a little bit. Then I wonder why I am unhappy. I am a Christian and unless there is like a big calling of misery all the time over your life, you have to have something to look forward to. I love to write and record and edit and mix. It helps me be a much better person. Joe is wonderful, he takes life serious but makes it fun!

peaks in digital; right peaks on analog tape;wrong ...when the peak light flickers on a decent tape machine, you usually have 4 db of headroom.Within that zone is your tape compression. No real tech or producer would ever say otherwise... i hate clicks. if needed, get a decent drummer and give it ONLY to him. I have tape spliced and copied chorus parts without many times on many records, sometimes the best tune on an award winning record
