Exactly the video I was looking for. Thank you. I am taking my middle son to Glasgow at the end of this month for a long Friday to Monday weekend. Was going to drive, but he was excited about going on the train, so to surprise him I have got us 1st Class tickets. Hope he appreciates it! Never been on Transpennine Express before. The last time to London from Wigan was on Virgin Trains, so some time ago now.
Just for current pricing, I paid £190.50 for me and my son (7) for an Advanced Return (2 advanced singles I think it was). We are coming back on the same time as your journey but going out at 08:42 from Wigan, so these were the cheapest 1st class combination I could find.
I do like the look of the seats on TPE. They always seem much nicer than Northern. Not sure what 1st Class was like with Virgin or Avanti but something in my head saying they are just normal seats. Probably wrong 🙂
Definitely looking forward to this break. Just come back off a driving holiday to Spain, and let's just say it wasn't a good holiday as my other 2 sons are autistic and some hair raising moments....hence why I am taking my other son away to get something from the summer holidays without him feeling he has to hold it together for the others.

Hi mate, thanks for watching - appreacited. Enjoy the trip, I sure he will appreciate it. I am not sure what TPE now offer in first class having being taken over by the government - i may cover that in a new video.

Great video the scenery is very good between Preston and Glasgow. One of the benefits of train travel is being able to see it all. Done that route before a couple of times with Virgin.

Another fantastic video mate, well enjoyed the watch and indeed agree so much about how good TPE have done with the Nova fleet, first class is great too.
I have travelled once on TPE back in august last year down to Preston too for a change over and it was great, that was just in standard too 👍

I've used this service from Lockerbie to Glasgow and back, and the electric trains are a huge improvement over the noisy and overcrowded diesels that TPE used in the past. The acceleration is excellent when it kicks in on the edge of Glasgow and as the trains are electric, there isn't the roar you'd get with a DMU. Only downside with the Nova2/ Class 397 is the ride can be a bit jittery.

Without a shadow of doubt by far better than the Nova1.

Great video! I have to say though that the window to seat alignment is absolutely terrible in 1st class on these trains.

I have to agree 100%, the first class compartment looks lovely.
My wife and I are travelling to Manchester shortly, from Newcastle but I was reluctant to book the direct TPE train, due to the high cancellation rate. Instead I booked LNER to Doncaster, then on TPE to Manchester.
The DON to MAN section will actually be in first class. It was £11.60 standard class for the two of us with a railcard, but only £3.40 more, at £15 first class. It was too good a chance to turn down. Even at the best of times the food situation with TPE isn’t too good and with us travelling on a Sunday it’ll probably be even worse. Anyway, for a journey of over an hour, comfy sets should be good, although for some reason I couldn’t book specific seats. I even phoned TPE and all they said was ‘sit on any seat available’
    Regards from Whitley Bay

Great video. IMO the West Coast Mainline us far more scenic than the East Coast mainline. You have the Scottish Borders then the Lake District. I've often travelled from Edinburgh to Manchester by TP and find they're one of the better train operators.

Hi, thank you for your comment. In terms of scenery yes, the west coast is better but I do love the sea views in between Edinburgh and Northumberland.

Transpennine Express Nova 1 Class 802 Bi-Modes and Nova 2 Class 397 Civity are stylish.

Hi, at the time of recording TPE had suspended all on board catering - there was nothing available.
