Discussing why I Switched to the Sony A7IV and why it's still good. I also mention why I had my reservations against getting one.

Do you already own the Sony A7IV? What do you think of it?
I had a fx30 and when I got an a7IV it didn’t feel as premium to me. I prefer recording on the fx30.
I feel the exact same way.
Interesting move Mike! I'm still shooting paid gigs with my a6700 (and FX30) here.
Still an excellent pair of cameras!
How do you find using the a6700 and fx30 color matching in post?
I shoot on Sony Fx30 and prefer it over A7IV
I like the video quality a lot more
I use it for teeth whitening business
And other paid shoots
I also prefer much more for video.
Making this switch as well, mainly to be able to use a flash for portraits, the mechanical shutter, and to try out full frame.
I also keep a flash ready, but I don’t often use it. This is a good camera to get into full frame with.
Do you find the rolling shutter to be a problem?
If it weren't for the rolling shutter on the a7IV I would get that over the FX30. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. Especially when using 4k 24p in full frame without the APS-C crop mode. The rolling shutter problem goes away on the A7IV if you use the crop mode but I don't want to if I don't have to. Do you find it to be a problem? I want to shoot full frame to get the full image circle out of my vintage glass. I want to eventually have a set of Takumar lenses because I love my 35mm F2 Takumar. What was your experience using that Helios lens on the FX30?
Also, what do you think of the difference between the body styles? I like the look of the FX30 but I'm not sure that the photography sacrifices and price difference are worth it.
For what I shoot, I don't personally consider rolling shutter an issue especially since I'm mostly shooting on sticks if anything and my movement is minimal completely overlook rolling shutter.
If you need a mechanical shutter just stick with the A7IV and avoid banding altogether. Plus if you want the viewfinder. Otherwise, the FX30 is just fine if you really want to prioritize video. I love the FX30 body for video.
@@MikeBSalazar Thanks for the feedback!
I think I'll end up getting an a7SIII so I don't have to worry about the camera getting in the way. The FX30 has no mechanical shutter, the a7IV has borderline usable rolling shutter for handheld work, and the A7SIII only has 12 Megapixals for photos, which I think I can put up with. Pick your poison I guess. I'm already in the full frame system for lenses anyway so the FX30 might be tough to transition to.
From someone who’s been with Sony during the times you were with lumix, I can tell you right now Sony doesn’t refresh their A7 line that quick.
They will release 2-3 more experimental vlogging cameras bodies before they update an A7 camera.
Hopefully that next A7 is the next best thing now haha
@@MikeBSalazarlooking at z6iii with 4k120 and 4k60 no crop internal raw for 2500$ ( a7iv at 2500 aswell ) , i have a feeling itll be a half stacked 33mp with similar capability as most of the 24mp relatives
honestly i came from a a6500 to the A7IV and that was a big upgrade for me. i have loved using it with my sigma 24-70 art. just picked up a 20mm f1.8 g. i have had no problems with overheating and I've used it for 15 hours straight at a wedding.
That is indeed a big upgrade. I’m surprised that you were able to record that long though. Those are great lenses you got.
@@MikeBSalazar yeah no it was very impressive for sure, maybe I got lucky with my camera
I had the A7IV, but sold it. It didn't quite work out as planned. From initial unboxing I could tell immediately that the body felt different than my A7SIII... mine overheated on me several times.
Don’t blame you there. What did you end up going with?
@@MikeBSalazar … I was using Fujifilm’s X-H2s and X-H2, but I begrudgingly decided to let them go recently. I’m going to give the GH7 a shot. My weird trend is that I keep going smaller in sensor size in search of the best balance in a hybrid camera.
I have the A7iv and two FX3s. I love them all. If it’s quick stuff, I grab the A7iv. I also use it on paid gigs if I need a third camera. It’s actually a bit sharper than the Fx3, but with a little work they blend phenomenally. Honestly, the tech is so good nowadays that you can make just about anything work.
I completely agree. I do lean more towards the FX3/FX30 form factor hehe
Can we get a tutorial on using the Rode Wireless Go II with the A7 IV?
I do have a general tutorial for connecting the mics to a camera that will be applicable to the Sony a7
The crop in 4k60 kinda ruins it for most since you cant just interchange angles and if youre running 4k60 and need slowmo, might aswell go for a67/fx30.
Not to mention that fhd is terrible on both ( and all sony cameras except the 12mp quintuplets ) , so might aswell stick to a more consistent camera
And fullframe advantage goes out the window once you need depth anyway
I have the same sentiments. Consistent camera is the keywords
@@MikeBSalazar just a heads up , the zve10ii is said to be cominf and might work as a cheap b cam to your fx30 for around 800$
Not sure I get it, The 60p on the A7IV is also cropped, so it is essentially the same as the FX30. But with the A7IV you get full frame 24p to boot. But only cropped 24p 4K on the FX30. So what is your point?
@@ekphotography yeah its all good until you have to mix footage.
The a7iv is either 7k30 or 4,7k60 , the fx30/zvw10ii/a6700 is a consistent 6-5,8k 30-60p
Wow, didn't see this switch coming. Hahaha. I thought you got past the A7IV itch.
If it wasn't my need for the mechanical shutter and 2 SD card slots, I would not have itched hahaha.
FX30: 2 card slots
I have both the FX30 and A7IV and am constantly switching between the 2 for which one I want to use as main TH-cam camera lol.
I guess at that point, it’s whatever lenses you’ll want to use haha
how to transfer videos from fx30 to iphone ?
Sd card reader, make sure you buy an sd card reader from apple, tried the cheap way and bought an amazon sd card reader and it corrupted my sd card, the apple sd card reader never failed me.
I am thinking the opposite actually right now. I had the FX3, sold in the pandemic bc I had little work and got more photography jobs, Bought the A7IV and for the last 3 years and really like it but hate that mine, dud version, always over heats in even mildly hot weather. Been thinking about getting the FX30 bc I shoot 99% video and cannot really afford the FX3 at the moment. But then I thought I am actually better off with full frame 24 4K and crop 60p 4K bc I will only get crop 4K in both 24 and 60p with the FX30. Decision decisions. I will try and hold off and hopefully get a second hand FX3 when I can scape the funds together or prices drop when the FX3II comes out. I have it paired with the Tampon 17-28 and 28-75 G2 and I can pretty much shoot anything from wide angle to Tele both in 24p and 60p. Believe it or not the image quality from the A7IV is actually better than the FX3 in my opinion. So is the Autofocus.
Hey, there is the beauty of full-frame. If we could all afford it, I think we'd all go FX3.
Lumix S5IIX maybe?
They looking pretty good. But I’m stuck on my lenses. Maybe when they bring in more lenses hehe
I own both and dont plan on purchasing another camera unless an A7V or A7SIV is announced
We’re both sitting at the edge our seats for them
This is true. I have the same problem. Thank you for making this video. hahahaha
I’m glad I’m not the only one hahaha
