The air flow is easy to figure out. If your old filter is dirty the dirty side of the filter is incoming air. Some filters (like the OEM filter) have an up indicator that points up. Most aftermarket filters have an air flow indicator that should point down.
Charcoal filters are only good for 12 months/1 year BUT it's still good,just after that time it won't stop bad smells coming in. Much more expensive than normal filter,thou.
