I actually really, really like the design of (Intel's) B580. It's incredibly simple and minimalistic, slightly industrial but with some flair, and I'm definitely feeling it. No RGB (apart from the optional light-up "Intel ARC" logo). No flashy and spaced out "gamer" design. Just simple and austere, in a good way.

That „discoloration“ is an underfill material which is UV hardened (hence the slight yellow color) after pcb assembly. This improves the mechanic stability of the die itself and protects for ingress of dirt or liquids (like old thermal paste).

Yeah dude, B770 is gonna be sweet. Considering the A770 was about 30% better than the A580, it should be about the same here. Hopefully the B series gets full HuC and RTX support into it for Linux, then it would be perfect for me!
B580 sold out in about a minute and a half at Newegg this morning, was desperately hoping to grab one for my dad. All the partner cards show out of stock too, but I don't know if that's because they legitimately are or because they haven't been released yet. I hope most of the sales were to legitimate users and not scalpers. Doesn't matter much to Intel's bottom line who buys it but it would make me feel better at least.
I'll see what I can find out and talk to the partners. I think it was an actual launch, but not sure how much supply there was. Based purely on nothing but speculation, it doesn't seem like this launch would have been camped by scalpers just out of the risk from last time or the obscurity of Intel Arc, but obviously I have no idea!
Honestly given the wave of positive reviews, it wouldn't shock me if scalpers took advantage of it... but realistically I suspect its just because of more demand than initial stock.

I have an XFX AMD card, and the fans are completely screwless, they snap into place via magnetic pogo pins, and actually come out of the card from new, you have to fit them yourself, which takes 2 seconds, this card actually impressed me, one of the nicest things I have seen with my long history of owning and modding GPU's, but I would not recommend this for low end GPU, it would just add expense, but the construction of this Intel card, is far better than I would expect, just take apart any 60 class card from the likes of Gigabyte or similar, and they will be dog crap.

Even if the backplate is plastic, it still has the function of protecting the card from human stupidity... You won't knock those tiny components off the board if there is a piece of plastic preventing you from getting to them. That and the card still performs ok thermally... so aside from the greasy fingerprint collecting material, on a 250$ card... the plastic backplate can be forgiven.
Hearting for visibility. This is something we've been messing around with for accelerating certain tasks, like Adobe Premiere rendering. It is still not always perfect and can be buggy at times.
@@GamersNexus For me Lightroom kills my 4090 Vram taking 22-23 gigs at a time with little actually utilization and brings my PC to a hault. i am wondering too if i can slap this in and tell Lightroom to use the intel car for its vram and so it doesnt murder my 4090 and bring my i9 13900ks and 128g drr5 PC to a crawl. LR hogging all the Vram been an issue for a while
I ran an A4000 with an A770 and had some small issues with driver initialization, what I found is install each card separately, get all their drivers and everything set up, then install them together. Some issues can arise with motherboards depending on how they bifurcated the pcie lanes, but you can look up motherboard specs for that stuff

I agree but I shouldn't still have graphical issues in games. I'm not gonna argue raw performance shouldn't increase but Alchemist deserves the same level of polishing Battlemage has seemingly gotten.
TL;DR Battlemage required an entire hardware refactor from Alchemist. Alchemists issues are etched into silicon. They haven't dropped support but it will never be at polished. @@SecretlySeven unfortunately Battlemage is a massive hardware refactor over Alchemist. If you read some of their A Vs B marketing it even seems like intel slightly acknowledges the fact that at its core Alchemist was not the best solution. It was their first consumer product and they had a lot to learn. Without the issues you will likely be stuck with on Alchemist, Battlemage would not be as good as it is.

Fingerprint visibility on card is because of RMA purposes. If they appear in places, which should not be serviced by user, then it's going to be reason for warranty refusal.
It's not legal to refuse the warranty because of that though, unless it can be proven that you actually caused the damage. My guess is they just wanted to make it look cool with that matte black but they didn't think about people needing to touch it.
You say you test products before the tear-down. Are follow-up test (for different review, for example) performed with the same card? Do you validate its performance again? Do you buy another? Just interested, keep up the great work! Mal sehen, was du da mit Roman treibst!
Correct, testing is done before tear-down. As for the question: Depends! If we use the same card, it's validated on re-assembly. I check them for thermals before and after. Power is also checked. If these are the same, nothing else changes. Often, we will move on to partner models or other cards for use though just because we want to try a few different versions of the device. 250USD for 270ish mm² of 5nm GPU silicon and 12GB of VRAM is pretty good. The die seems rather large for housing just 2560 ALUs/19.6B transistors though (4070 is 68% denser in terms of transistors per area)… Btw, AMD and NVidia take note - this is the price bracket a 7800XT and GeForce 4070 should be in: sub 300 USD!
Hi Steve! The backplate is an insulator, but it does protect the components from the user somewhat so that might be a benefit they are looking at as well! Hope that helps!
I find it funny that B580 doesn't seem to be available anywhere in US before January, but I can already walk into my European store and they'll just hand it over to me.
i really appreciate intel's commitment to make their gpus actually good, really big breath of fresh air compared to the dumpster fire cpus they had for the past 3 generations, if they keep this trend going i really wouldn't be surprised if intel becomes primarily a video card company rather than a processor one
Actually the new gen isn't bad.... They're just lackluster. The only thing they bring is a new architecture. May it be the basis for an Intel comeback like the first gen Ryzen was for AMD
Board partners can be just as bad with the glue. My "Gigabyte 1080ti Waterforce" had the water block screws under a glued on decorative plate, so no cleaning the block without messing that up.
Isn't it great when a company (Intel of all companies!) actually listens to what reputable reviewers have to say and fix the issues? If Intel continues on that path then the third generation could mean actual trouble for the other two companies in the field which have been quite lazy in recent years.
interesting how there's so few MLCCs on the substrate, and how they're all located on only one side. Compare this to Nvidia and AMD GPUs, where you'll usually find many more decoupling caps, and placed all around the Chip to make for optimal power delivery.
Speaking of oddly shaped silicon looking like it could be from a laptop, there's actually a market in CN for dead desktop GPUs reusing laptop chips by soldering them on the board! The gaming test results were nothing special, but the thermals and low power draw were impressive. I'd love to hear your thoughts on those.
6:29 - Yeh, my MSI RTX 2070 Super Gaming X has pads between the metal back-plate and GPU/VRAM and the backplate gets _really_ warm so it's obviously doing quite a lot of cooling. But I guess even a plastic backplate stops components being knocked off the PCB so maybe preferable to leaving it exposed.
Gamers Nexus is truly doing a complete and total disservice to the competitive performance of AMD when pairing Intel and Nvidia hardware with AMD hardware.
Back plate really doesn't matter in this case, it is just there to make it look better which is good trough might cause slight heat insulation. Other then that the GPU is well constructed especially for it's price. Intel has really upped their game which is a welcoming sight!
Not only is the cooler simpler and easier to disassemble, it's probably cheaper to make. Intel was certainly losing money on the A770/A750 LE cards, and dozens of cents here and there add up. Complexity isn't always good, and cost reduction isn't always bad.
I have absolutely no need for this card, but I'm so impressed, I almost feel like buying one. Looks like the Sparkle one runs at lower power draw and temp for only a nominal increase in price too. If intel brings out something that stands toe to toe with the upcoming 5080 (they won't), I'll buy it because nvidia can pound sand.
one thing i can appreciate about the design is that they screw mounted the ports to the pcie plate. should help keep the hdmi/dvi ports from breaking as easy as older cads...ala gtx1070. id love to see some b-series x-oc also, so bust out the LN2
What annoys me with this card is that it could have been a pure 10.5"/267mm card if not for that slanted end of the card because radiator heatpipe ends are like 6-8mm from the card so it could have been those 8mm shorter.
To be fair plastic backplate does prevent you from accidentally knocking off SMD's from the back of the PCB if you are terribly not careful when assembling the PC.
I definitely would have considered a B580 as an upgrade from my GTX 1070 if I hadn't gotten the 6700XT years ago. If there is a B700 series however, and the idle power consumption is improved significantly - I would definitely consider. Would be nice having an Intel videocard (that isn't i740) as it'd bring the variety of GPU from different manufacturers that I can use in my PC to 9 (currently have examples from; S3, SiS, 3DFX, Nvidia, AMD in use. Matrox, Ati and 3DLabs in storage).
This b580 gpu is the most interesting gpu release in some time for me. Excited to see what driver updates in the coming months and the b700 releases bring.
I wouldn't say they fixed all the problems. This thing still has a die size as big as a 4070ti and yet it has performance closer to a 4060ti. Not a big deal for the consumer, but it means Intel isn't making any money on these, meaning Intel won't make many of them, meaning it's not bringing competition to anyone since it's not a threat to AMD or Nvidia.
I have an Intel (not Airbus😂) A380 that I use exclusively for video transcoding - I don’t play games at all, outside of the bedroom! 😅 I will be really interested to learn if it will be worth upgrading to a BM GPU for my use case alone. I suspect not, as the ffmpeg hevc_qsv encodes are already at ~12x @ 1920x and ~20x @ 1280x.

Hope they release some higher end Battlemage cards so I have an upgrade from my 3070. The 8gb vram on the 3070 is not quite enough.

They took the que from mazda that loves to put that plastic all over their interiors. Just looking at it and it scratches and gets dust on it.

Correct, testing is done before tear-down. As for the question: Depends! If we use the same card, it's validated on re-assembly. I check them for thermals before and after. Power is also checked. If these are the same, nothing else changes. Often, we will move on to partner models or other cards for use though just because we want to try a few different versions of the device. 250USD for 270ish mm² of 5nm GPU silicon and 12GB of VRAM is pretty good. The die seems rather large for housing just 2560 ALUs/19.6B transistors though (4070 is 68% denser in terms of transistors per area)…
Btw, AMD and NVidia take note - this is the price bracket a 7800XT and GeForce 4070 should be in: sub 300 USD!
Hi Steve! The backplate is an insulator, but it does protect the components from the user somewhat so that might be a benefit they are looking at as well! Hope that helps!

i really appreciate intel's commitment to make their gpus actually good, really big breath of fresh air compared to the dumpster fire cpus they had for the past 3 generations, if they keep this trend going i really wouldn't be surprised if intel becomes primarily a video card company rather than a processor one
Actually the new gen isn't bad.... They're just lackluster. The only thing they bring is a new architecture. May it be the basis for an Intel comeback like the first gen Ryzen was for AMD
Board partners can be just as bad with the glue. My "Gigabyte 1080ti Waterforce" had the water block screws under a glued on decorative plate, so no cleaning the block without messing that up.
Isn't it great when a company (Intel of all companies!) actually listens to what reputable reviewers have to say and fix the issues? If Intel continues on that path then the third generation could mean actual trouble for the other two companies in the field which have been quite lazy in recent years.
interesting how there's so few MLCCs on the substrate, and how they're all located on only one side. Compare this to Nvidia and AMD GPUs, where you'll usually find many more decoupling caps, and placed all around the Chip to make for optimal power delivery.

Speaking of oddly shaped silicon looking like it could be from a laptop, there's actually a market in CN for dead desktop GPUs reusing laptop chips by soldering them on the board! The gaming test results were nothing special, but the thermals and low power draw were impressive. I'd love to hear your thoughts on those.
I love they colored the heatsink in black like the Asus Proart cards it gives it such a clean look overall

6:29 - Yeh, my MSI RTX 2070 Super Gaming X has pads between the metal back-plate and GPU/VRAM and the backplate gets _really_ warm so it's obviously doing quite a lot of cooling. But I guess even a plastic backplate stops components being knocked off the PCB so maybe preferable to leaving it exposed.
Steve gave me anxiety with the TSA experience. Thankfully, that went smooth haha

Back plate really doesn't matter in this case, it is just there to make it look better which is good trough might cause slight heat insulation. Other then that the GPU is well constructed especially for it's price.
Intel has really upped their game which is a welcoming sight!
Not only is the cooler simpler and easier to disassemble, it's probably cheaper to make. Intel was certainly losing money on the A770/A750 LE cards, and dozens of cents here and there add up. Complexity isn't always good, and cost reduction isn't always bad.
I have absolutely no need for this card, but I'm so impressed, I almost feel like buying one. Looks like the Sparkle one runs at lower power draw and temp for only a nominal increase in price too. If intel brings out something that stands toe to toe with the upcoming 5080 (they won't), I'll buy it because nvidia can pound sand.

one thing i can appreciate about the design is that they screw mounted the ports to the pcie plate. should help keep the hdmi/dvi ports from breaking as easy as older cads...ala gtx1070. id love to see some b-series x-oc also, so bust out the LN2

What annoys me with this card is that it could have been a pure 10.5"/267mm card if not for that slanted end of the card because radiator heatpipe ends are like 6-8mm from the card so it could have been those 8mm shorter.
To be fair plastic backplate does prevent you from accidentally knocking off SMD's from the back of the PCB if you are terribly not careful when assembling the PC.

I definitely would have considered a B580 as an upgrade from my GTX 1070 if I hadn't gotten the 6700XT years ago.
If there is a B700 series however, and the idle power consumption is improved significantly - I would definitely consider. Would be nice having an Intel videocard (that isn't i740) as it'd bring the variety of GPU from different manufacturers that I can use in my PC to 9 (currently have examples from; S3, SiS, 3DFX, Nvidia, AMD in use. Matrox, Ati and 3DLabs in storage).
I feel like this rushed design of a video needs to be a regular bit on there; nothing cuts through the BS like having a plane to catch.

This b580 gpu is the most interesting gpu release in some time for me. Excited to see what driver updates in the coming months and the b700 releases bring.
I wouldn't say they fixed all the problems. This thing still has a die size as big as a 4070ti and yet it has performance closer to a 4060ti. Not a big deal for the consumer, but it means Intel isn't making any money on these, meaning Intel won't make many of them, meaning it's not bringing competition to anyone since it's not a threat to AMD or Nvidia.
Take a shot every time Steve mentioned that they have a flight to catch in a few hours…

I have an Intel (not Airbus😂) A380 that I use exclusively for video transcoding - I don’t play games at all, outside of the bedroom! 😅 I will be really interested to learn if it will be worth upgrading to a BM GPU for my use case alone. I suspect not, as the ffmpeg hevc_qsv encodes are already at ~12x @ 1920x and ~20x @ 1280x.

i still use my 780ti cooler in my cigar humidor under a very corrosive uv light. still works great. i would say non-changable fans are okay.
Like the review, but you HAVE to keep the price in mind with all the plastic bits and "lack" of thermal pads.
