This is great man, thanks for this! For anyone reading wondering how to record the midi information in Reaper, it works a little different to Logic. What you need to do is - set up a track for your guitar DI, and load Midi Guitar 2 onto that track - set up a virtual instrument track (with your synth plugin of choice) - send the guitar DI track to the virtual instrument track - hit record on both tracks, but also right click the record button on the virtual instrument track and choose "Record: output", "Record Output: MIDI" and you should be good to go! Cheers!
This is awesome! I’m not the greatest on piano so traditional keyboard midi controllers make it a bit difficult to create music. Having my guitar as a midi controller will give me a big advantage! Thank you!
The one thing that always kept me from adding synths or other instruments to my music was having to painstakingly write them in my sequencer with my mouse or buy a midi controller and learn(at least somewhat) how to play keyboard. Definitely gonna check this out.
Duuude, this is so cool. I'm gonna try this whenever I can get back into recording. Will probably need to rewatch this tutorial when the time comes. Good job making it, bro. Gonna share it.
My Brother this sure is an amazing evolution from those low life days, the name threw me off at first but the playing and guitar in your other vids I knew it was my children of bodom master shredder. It sure is great seeing you I hope everything in your world is wonderful in these trying times and thank you for making mayday a great one! Md
I like those sequences you were playing in the first part -- very JS Bach-ian. I can recall playing around with MIDI Guitar back in the early days of pre-version 1, and I thought it had possibilities, but I wasn't impressed -- yet. I've been hanging in there with my old Roland GR-33 Guitar Synth. But it is limited and doesn't track all that well. So after listening to the tracking you were achieving, I think it's time to switch. Thanks.
Right on man thanks for checking out my video. Just be warned, it definitely isn't perfect, but it's fun to play with. If you are interested, I'd recommend trying it for yourself (again) before committing to buying it. Glad you liked the little song. It's my loose interpretation of the theme song from 'House By The Cemetery', an awesome horror movie movie by Lucio Fulci.
I just thought I'd add to my original post. I bought a license of MG2. Haven't sat down and used it that much yet, but I'll say this -- it outperforms my Roland GR-33. So time to retire that old beast. It served me well, but MG2 definitely has more legs for what I need.
Yes for sure you can do this with a previously recorded track. I demonstrate how to do it towards the end of this video for my song decayed into martyrdom.
How should a person use this application in a '' LIVE'' venue ? Any special usb / trs cables 1/4 / 3.5 mm cables from laptop to amplifier , out to speakers ?
I would not use this live because the tracking isn't good enough. However, if you're willing to experiment with the sensitivities a lot, and perhaps if your music isn't too fast/technical, it could work. I suppose laptop direct to out would be easier though, but I'm not a live sound guy.
Thanks for the video. I find myself playing things I never would have otherwise when playing with a new sound. What are the limitations of the MIDI Guitar 2 demo?
Great glad you liked it. It is a ton of fun to use and is really handy for those of us who want to create midi without using a keyboard midi controller form factor. Honestly I don’t know what the trial limitations are though because I got the paid version such a long time ago.
It comes with a few synth sounds but I am not sure how you can use them in a daw. I know the sounds work on the standalone app. However the sounds aren’t that great so you’d be better off using other virtual instruments, even if they are stock in your daw in my opinion. Also there are plenty of free virtual instruments out there so you should be good to go.
wait so i can actually make synthesizer sounds without a midi keyboard and jsut with an electric guitar and midi guitar 2? Im planning on making electronic music
Yep that is what it can do! More technically correct though, would be to say it can create midi. Then your daw or whatever software instrument can make the synth sounds.
Vafa, one question? Can the MIDI Guitar 2 Change tunings of independant strings? i know its POLYPHONIC and you can change pitch but not sure of individual strings?
Hey man I am not really sure if I understand your question. I don't know if MIDI Guitar 2 can change pitch at all, but in any case, I don't use it to do that. I'm just using it to detect the audio signal and convert it to MIDI. You can configure it to detect whatever tuning your guitar is in, but I'm not aware of making it so that you can change the pitch of an individual string.
@@kane6529 Oh I see what you mean. I think you possibly can, if you assign each note to a separate MIDI channel, and possibly also adding a pitch shift effect or something to the output MIDI signals. However, I haven't tried that. I think the Jam Origin MIDI Guitar 2 documentation would be the place to check. Good question!
Good question. I've personally never tried any of the Jamstik models, so I can't tell you how they would compare to this. I did own a YRG which is similar, but much older, and it really sucked. I just like the flexibility of this approach, and the fact that I can play my own guitars rather than have a separate instrument.
Thanks for the video! I am trying to get Jam Origin to work and I can hear it when I run into my audio interface and even see the midi showing up on my protools track. But then when I try to play it back it's all greyed out. Any idea why that could be?
Hey thanks for checking it out! I'm not familiar with ProTools but it sounds like you've got the plugin working properly and are able to record MIDI with it. At that point, it sounds like it's just an issue with the MIDI track itself and how it's outs are set. Sorry I can't be more help, but I just don't know ProTools at all. But at least it sounds like your MIDI is being recorded properly. Good luck!
@@VafaMottahedin it doesnt seem to want to let me do that. I can drop all the other strings two additional semi tones. but it wont let me go lower than D2 for the 6th string.
@@Sailingthepoisonsea Oh weird that sucks. I wonder if it's a bug on their end or something to do with different versions or something. In any case, it doesn't track the drop C string too well for me anyway. Perhaps get in touch with their technical support or something. For this song, I don't use the drop C string for the solo anyway so it wasn't an issue for me. But I can definitely configure it to go to drop C. I had to set it to the D standard preset, and then manually bring the lowest string down another step.
I would think so, as long as you either plug in an acoustic pickup or mic up your acoustic, but I think it probably wouldn’t work as well as a direct signal from an electric
I would be grateful if u could help me. I cant play anything on Midi guitar 2 without getting unwanted notes. It ruins everything for me. How do i get rid of it
Hey man there’s gonna be a pretty good amount of unwanted notes no matter what you do. You can try muting your strings as best as you can and maybe adjust the sensitivity settings. But there’s some you just won’t be able to get rid of. I definitely recommend recording, and then editing the generated midi and not using this for any live application
question is anyone aware of any sale: it kinda hurts that are very few options... and that the jam origin is just "software" I really would like an audio to midi circuit, to connect that direct to my interface's midi inputs... #CPUusage
Hey man I have not heard of any sales by them but perhaps there will be some in the future. I suppose you could send the output within the jam origin plugin to a specific out? I would think that it is possible to do what you are describing. They do have a free trial so maybe download that and see if you can get it to do what you want.
I had serious issues with latency with JamOrigin esp. in polyphonic playing, so I never upgraded from the trial version. Any tips on how to improve that?
Sorry to hear that. I haven't had any latency issues myself, so I am wondering if it's something to do with your computer or drivers or something. I doubt it's because you're using the trial version because I don't think they made it so that the trial is less usable or anything. Sorry I can't be more help. Perhaps see if they have a customer support or technical support line?
@@ryangowing8611 Latency is actually not bad for me, I'm running a MacBook Pro from 2016. The main issue for me at least is that the strings can be really sensitive, ending up with lots of unwanted notes that I have to manually edit out after recording.
