I save all nice rubber bands, even those I find on the floor in stores, for such as this. My expensive watercolor pencils always have the heavy rubber band on them because they travel w me. Has saved me! Courageous you, breaking those up. I’m glad you don’t treat your tools as precious like I do. I’m going to have to loosen up because you have all the fun!!!
That’s a good tip! I really want to take the Neocolors everywhere! 😅 I think that was the motivation I needed. Also, I thought about it, and they are eventually going to be that small anyway. I might as well get use to the idea. 😆👍
Ohhh, I only just found this 3 month old video, NOW I see how your crayons got so much shorter when they had been full size recently! And yes, purposely breaking Neocolor II's must have been quite painful but it did give you a very nice travel set, for free even!! This was a very interesting, different and thoughtful video. Nicely done!!
I draw outside AND in the car all the time (road trips) and I did something similar with my crayons in a tin the same size. (although mine fitted lol, so no breaking) I also took out the similar colours too. It's so much fun and love what you did! ❤️
No GoPro. Just hugged up to a tripod. I think finding even ground was the hardest part.😅 That’s nice that you didn’t have to break yours! I should definitely try sketching in the car on my upcoming trip! 😊👍
Boss Ross tin is a nifty idea. Being outside in nature is always a good thing, no matter your industry. Thanks for sharing, and you always seem like you’re having so much fun. 😊
I intentionally snap my neocolors too so I can take more colors out in a small container. Plus, it just removes the anticipation of them accidentally breaking (and they do!) and sometimes makes them easier to scribble with. I love going plein air with my art. Such a fun video!
The tins are also great for a limited palette. I have one for what I call my "couch sketchbook" (and the one I'm usually sketching in when I watch your videos). It has very small compartments for gouache which is perfect so I don't really worry about them drying out since I use it almost daily. Also great for watercolors. Oh! to help hold the container if you get a fridge clip magnet you can clip it onto your sketchbook with the magnet side up and the tin should stick if it's made of metal and not aluminum. Probably a little too late for your trip... My sketches of your pictures I used with only guoache since I knew they'd probably be quick and I like the abstract look I got.
Yes, I should definitely get a clip. That would help a lot! My trip actually got canceled. It was to an area that got hit by a hurricane recently. I love that you’re exploring with the quick sketch/painting! ❤️😊👍
I know lots of artists break their Neo 2’s but I couldn’t break mine , so I bought a smaller tin of Neo 2’s to take with me. If I know what I plan on doing outside, I can always swap some colors around. I found a tiny Bob Ross mint tin that I use and it is the perfect size for my kneaded eraser. I love your art!
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it! It definitely took a while of looking at the areas before I started sketching. I think blocking out the background was helpful. There was way too much detail in the backgrounds. 😊👍
girl, what do you mean?! they turned out amazing!!! I love painting and drawing outside too, it's so fun! also with the tin thing, I totally agree. I have so many little tins saved to put watercolours and pens in. the log drawing is my favourite btw❤
Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked them! The woodpile was the most fun! I think I was feeling a little insecure that day. Thanks for your kind words! ❤️😊👍
@@artbyheather I totally understand the insecurity! I feel you on filming outside too, it adds so much pressure, but just drawing is totally fine for me! love your videos, I hope you have a lovely day:)
Merci ❤❤❤ j'adore dessiner à l'extérieur et pour m'entraîner je dessine tout ce que je croise en ville ou en bord de mer, c'est la meilleure façon pour progresser 😀!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! It’s such a cute tin! I’m so happy I figured out a good way to use it! Now I can take Bob with me to sketch happy little trees! ❤️😊👍
You had a lot of great advice today Heather and I enjoyed being outside with you! I’m only halfway through your video right now but I wanted to tell you that you did a great job with your first piece. Trying to create something out of that view of trees and branches didn’t look easy to me, yet you made it look very interesting and detailed. It was even prettier and better than the real life scene! ❤
Loved this video. It looked very difficult to stand and draw with the book in your hand - no idea how you were doing the camera as well. Thank you. I loved the sketches too.
Oh wow Heather, this was such an awesome video and was so wonderful to watch this morning. You have such an incredible way of sharing your artwork and style well talking about it either before or after. You make Art feel so approachable and possible. I love your honesty and talking about how it is really not easy to do this and yet you made it happen, including talking about others who film their plein air work and giving credit to them. I really appreciate all that you do and say. Not sure if you could hear me while watching your video.😂😂 wondering where you are going on your trip. Whatever it is you do, I hope it is awesome and I’m sure you will figure out getting in your art time. I love the tin of neocolors as well, you were very brave breaking them on video 😂. I love the idea of having the small paper towel and brush under the elastic in your sketchbook, I’m always scrambling when I try to go somewhere with a “few things”, really appreciate your showing us how it is a possibility. Really looking forward to your upcoming video of two minute bird sketches, I am a big fan of birds.❤❤
Thanks! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I like sharing my experiences. The good and the bad. Sometimes art can feel intimidating and I’m happy to show the doable side. I love the new mini travel setup. I’ve already been putting it to good use! Thank you so much for your kind words! More to come! ❤️😊👍
This is so impressive! Absolutely gorgeous! And no bugs landed on you. If I was doing this, and a bug landed on me or the paper, my neo’s would have gone flying! Excellent job! ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much! A few gnats wanted to land in my eyeballs, but I was surprised the bugs weren’t a nuisance. Bees love hitting me in the face or flying past my ear, so the Neocolors would have definitely gone flying! ❤️🤣👍
I totally get not breaking them! 😅 Thanks for watching! I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos! I’ll have to do another one like the eyes video soon. ❤️😊👍
I love my Neo 2s. My first love was crayons when I was 5. I fell in love with watercolors as an adult and sold a bunch. Now, as a crotchety old lady, I'm learning colored pencils and other media, but I'm really enjoying my crayons. I first watched a 2 minute session. I absolutely LOVED those. I started using my sketchbooks (19) with a whole new attitude. Thank you so much.😊
That’s so good to hear!! I was big into crayons as a kid too. Never really got into drawing, but I love coloring and painting. I definitely feel like they are the best of both worlds. You’re very welcome! More to come!
Beautiful setting to sketch in!! 🌳 Being in nature can be so calming!! 😍 I'm glad you found your Neocolor IIs helpful! 🥰 It would have been sad if you broke them and then were frustrated by them!! 😮 I would be careful about leaving them that way in a bag in a hot vehicle. They might be a cool art piece when you go to use them... 🌈😅
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it! That would have been terrible if I didn’t like using them small. I think because a few had already broke, I wasn’t too worried about it. Oh Yes! The melting is real. I should have expressed that more in the video. I tried using them in the hot sun a few weeks ago and they get very melty. 😅 I won’t be leaving them in a hot place for sure. Thanks for saying that! ❤️😊👍
Thank you for mentioning that about not leaving them in a warm area, I might not have thought about that otherwise. On the other hand, I’m sure it would make for a really “cool” art piece.😂😂
Thanks for taking us along on your practice. The only part of sketching in public that I wouldn't like is curious people that want to come stand over your shoulder...so maybe the camera/filming situation would keep them from approaching?
I agree. I’ve never had anyone standing over my shoulder before and that does worry me a little too. I almost think the camera might make what I’m doing look more important. So it might attract curious eyes. It’s an interesting experiment I’ll have to test it out… once I’m not too scared. 😂👍
It did feel like a criminal act to break them. 😂 I like to use what I have. I don’t feel like they are unusable just because they are shorter now. I’m really glad I made a mini set out of them. It’s been very useful! Thanks for watching! 😊👍
Loving this! Living in “THE MOMENT “

Liking these sketches. ❤🇦🇺
