I have a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 cyl. After a mechanic broke a wheel speed sensor, the ABS dash light came on and the brakes acted funny. They replaced the sensor twice and the third time the ABS light came on, they said the ABS Module was bad and they wanted over $1000 to replace it. I bought a rebuilt one from an ebay seller for $80 and it worked perfectly. I watched a few TH-cam videos showing the repairs to the module and since I was a retired electronics technician, I opened the defective module and repaired it in under 30 minutes. Bad solder connections were the only problem. The hardest part was opening the sealed module and then resealing it.
yeah, my 2000 chevy Silverado was close to $1000 15 years ago. ABS light came on while on a trip to Southern California in the desert. Took it to a dealer and wasn't sure if they were taking advantage of an out of stater but after some checking it was what they cost back then.
I broke my sensor the other day. I bought new one but still not work correctly. So you're saying it's possible to damage module just from breaking a speed sensor?

The scope is such a beautiful tool for these types of diags. I got my MicSig (just a starter for now; it's what I could afford!) about six months ago and in no small thanks to you I'm leaning a lot more of how to use it. Found a blower motor that would intermittently speed up when hitting bumps in a Cheevy with only 34k miles. Without the amp clamp to catch the power spike and the psm signal being measured to prove it was internal to the motor not the control module it would have taken a lot of work to try and find a short or some other issue. With the scope I had proof and it did solve the problem and proved the new one no longer spiked. Not only was it easy but ensures warranty pays and we don't get a charge back! Same with a cam actuator solenoid. Signal is good and solenoid it outside the range. No circuit tests needed. The digital visual proof that comm is there while the malfunction is there eliminates a tedious GM procedure on testing the part and circuits. What i'm trying to say is thanks for being a great teacher and skilled mentor big guy!
@@ronaldkleinsasser2842 Not sure. He's got a lot of options. I think it depends on the difficulty of the diag. For a simple speed sensor its easy to pull out the miniature one, but the pico is probably still king.

Surely the quality of the product has improved infinitely now Jeep are no longer Mercedes owned ? That probably says more about Mercedes quality than it does about Fiat quality.
Quality is at an all-time low with Fiat. Not one single even-semi-smooth model launch since they took over. None of them have been on-schedule, mostly because of quality issues (their specs are just that lousy)
@@frazerguest2864 Guess why FCA still makes the DS Ram? Why has the Grand Caravan just been discontinued, instead of the Spring 2017 as it was supposed to? Quality problems. Every new model launch under Fiat is more of a s..t show than the previous. No wonder their customer satisfaction, and reliability ratings are in the basement!
Gilles Thibault : The thing is, you kind of expect such woeful quality with FIAT, (Fix It Again Tomorrow), it’s the shit quality under Mercedes ownership that pisses me off the most. In the small town that I live in is a guy driving round in a 1989 Mercedes 190. Besides the faded paint and worn drivers seat, the car is like brand new. Still runs super smooth and has zero rust. I also see a 2007 Mercedes S-Class S500 driving around locally. Besides the bumpers, ever single panel is riddled with rust, as are most Mercedes around here approaching ten years old. That in itself is just one perfect example of Mercedes so-called ‘quality’. I’ll tell you what, I don’t see Fiats and Alfa Romeos rusting as badly as Mercedes. All manufacturers seem to be following the same path, (with the exception of Toyota). Accountants have taken over from Engineers. Cars are built to the absolute cheapest price. If a car manufacturer can sacrifice quality to save 1 cent per unit, then they will do. Cars used to be the second highest purchase a family would make, which is why most folk used to own a car for ten years before selling it on, (or scrapping it). Now with the advent of cheap finance / lease deals, cars have become a throwaway consumable item, built to last the duration of the warranty and not a day longer, (and sometimes not even the duration of the warranty, which often isn’t worth the paper it is written on). But such is the way a lot of our consumer driven society works. Just look at Apple products. Clever marketing aimed at the hard of thinking = sky high prices, yet the products are utter dog shit, often not fit for purpose and you’re lucky if they last two years before becoming nothing more than an expensive paperweight. I went into an engineering workshop a few weeks back. They had a lathe and a pillar drill in use that the firm had bought in the 1950’s. These pieces of equipment had been used every working day for nearly 70 years and were still going strong. I bet the same wouldn’t be possible if you bought new engineering equipment today. It would be scrap mental after ten years. Volvo Trucks is another great example. They used to be real tough workhorses. Now gearboxes and turbochargers costing several thousand pounds each are consumable service items.
many times the can bus runs "through" the abs module and doesnt stop in them as a dead end, so it unplugged could break communications with many modules. even if it is the canbus termination endpoint, it unplugged means no termination resistors and same non communication or very noisy bus issues of random whack-a-mole com failures
@@throttlebottle5906 Ok, I think if it was just unplugged, it would cause more problems than if left as was. I hate when any warning lights come on though. Its even more aggravating when you take a. Car to a shop they say its fixed but all they did was remove the light bulb that was on instead of fixing the problem
14 years of vibration, I wonder how the circuit board looks. If she buys the repair I suggest opening up the defective one for giggles. Might have nasty's in there or a cracked board or open solder joints.
Quick question. Awesome channel, btw. An often overlooked tool you use very often is your service carts. Might I ask where you acquired them at? Looks like the cart my sixth grade teacher wheeled the projector in on.
I'm guessing "Part 1 final" means she decided to drive without ABS, the cost is too high for an old vehicle. On a day to day basis, the only thing one would notice is the annoying dash light.

I will need to check my abs module for power and ground and power key on ...but like I said I know reverse is showing no power key on but has key off power . GREAT DIAGNOSIS WOULD LOVE TO SEE PART TWO..., IF POSSIBLE THE PROGRAMMING DONE WITH AN AFTERMARKET SCANNER NOW THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING VERY NEW . MAYBE WITH ONE OF THE LAUNCH X431 SCANNERS OR JUST AN AFTERMARKET ONE BECAUSE YOU DO HAVE THE KNOW HOW AND THE EQUIPMENT AND ONE OF THEM SHOULD HAVE THE CAPABILITY . ALWAYS ENJOY LEARNING SOMETHING NEW ON YOUR CHANNEL THANKS YOU FOR YOUR TIME ! ! ! JUST CURIOUS IS ALL WELL WITH KEITH DEFAZIO JUST ASKING BECAUSE HAVEN'T SEEN MUCH FROM HIM LATELY THANKS AGAIN ?
I am confused, if there is no comms problem, wouldn't the can signal be skewed ?
What’s the best way to test a TIPM on a 2006 Charger? My high speed cooling fans will not come on. They may cycle for a split second, then not return. If I don’t use the AC, the engine light turns off. If using the AC, the money light will return on the second key cycle. I’ve replaced the radiator & fans with the same result. Checked the wiring and all the relays. I’ve acquired another TIPM from a salvage car, but haven’t swapped them yet. Thanks.. great videos.
The best way I've found is never by a Dodge or Chrysler.
@@blackhatter011 It's a 13 year old Vehicle most of the Ford Taurus and Impala's are already in the crusher WTF? So the guy needed a module big deal....You should go take your mopar hate BS to the Scotty channel !

The one good thing about Fiat Chrysler is they allow automotive techs and mechanics to make a good living!
Gilles Thibault : How on earth could the vehicles have been any worse quality-wise than they were under Mercedes ?
Just curious, if the ABS module is left unplugged the brakes would still work ok ?
No sometimes you will get pulsation when you brake
@@miguelare3
Ok thanks.
many times the can bus runs "through" the abs module and doesnt stop in them as a dead end, so it unplugged could break communications with many modules.
even if it is the canbus termination endpoint, it unplugged means no termination resistors and same non communication or very noisy bus issues of random whack-a-mole com failures
@@throttlebottle5906
Ok, I think if it was just unplugged, it would cause more problems than if left as was.
Might have nasty's in there or a cracked board or open solder joints.
three words (salt water corrosion)
Quick question. Awesome channel, btw. An often overlooked tool you use very often is your service carts. Might I ask where you acquired them at? Looks like the cart my sixth grade teacher wheeled the projector in on.
I believe in an older video he said it was from a school district
@@superjoe83 ok thanks.
Good moning.
How was your Labor Day?

I'm guessing "Part 1 final" means she decided to drive without ABS, the cost is too high for an old vehicle. On a day to day basis, the only thing one would notice is the annoying dash light.
The CEL is also tripped. Don’t believe it will pass NY inspection with the money light on......
Can't say I like the scotch connector. Not the greatest choice under a hood or anywhere for that matter.
Thanks for the video.
I learned 30 some years ago that if you use them anywhere they can get wet they will corrode.
Show me like you did before love you videos
Nice!!

Hi dear, I have 05 jeep grand Cherokee hemi 5.7L, and the error code c1243 and dash light is on all the time and shown in the system G sensor is not working, I change it but same no improvement at all, please advice.
340K subs now Eric...Geez Louise .. my town population is around 9000 lol you have more then 25 of my towns of people watching you..how do you feel about that ?
RAHRAH807 - Your town is 10X the size of the town he is working in....
Monte Stu I know..Customers be rolling out the red carpet for him soon one day..😀
Why was the sensor lead tapped into anyway?
Got a 2008 2500 recently I lost my abs system uo121 and p0501 ... This has shut off my exhaust brake and all and related like speedometer. I don't see any bad wiring at the sensors. One thing I found that started at the same time is the reverse lights stopped working and I noticed they work..key off...when in reverse but there's no power key off . I will need to check my abs module for power and ground and power key on ...but like I said I know reverse is showing no power key on but has key off power . Would there be a possible ignition switch wire issue to look for ?
Muy interesante. Amigo espero un día ser igual qomue tu en mecánica
Awesome
Hopefully it was just the module, power and differential bus seems happy as larry :-)
Treat it like a starter motor, hit it with a hammer :-D.

Or a mid 70’s Ford electronic ignition module! They would always get you home if you had the foresight to carry a BFH with you.
