Long answer short yes you need but only as a replacement of the wifi jammer that i used in the end to until then you can sucessfuly launch the captive portal with only one wifi adapter
first capture the handshake..... then use airgeddon to create evil twin now if you dont have a 2nd wifi adapter then you will not able to force the user to connect to the fake.. so you can create a wifi like free wifi so that they connect to get internet and then take the password

But once the handshake is captured the victim phones reconnects automatically to the original access point not the fake one, it is obvious he will not reconnect to a new one ( fake AP ) that's what i think this attakc is useless unless you keep de-authenticating him from his original ap so he can connect to the fake one
You didn't understand the attack properly first we capture the handshake then yes the device will connect with the original one but then we deauth him from the original wifi network and he will not be abble to connect to the original wifi untill I want .....then he will try to connect to the different network available and boom we got him...I hope you get the point

see you can use nodemcu with esp8266 microcontroller others will not work but the only issue is the range 0r you can get tp link ac600

i have only ar9271 wifi adapter tried it on my router my phone just disconnects not reconennecting and also not opening a captive portal.
You need two adapter one for disconnecting device and another for captive portal
