4 Money Beliefs That Limit Your Wealth Inside and Out w/ Kate Northrup

  • Know your worth to get over your money anxieties and start living abundantly. In this video, you'll learn from Kate Northrup the four money beliefs that keep you broke, and what you can do to change them.
Belief #1: Someone else should/will do this for me. This belief gives another person your power. Instead, know your worth and believe that you're capable of solving your own financial problems, like getting out of debt.
Belief #2: I'm not good with money. This belief only holds you back. We've all learned the skills we have, and being "good" with money is one of them. Know your worth and understand that your beliefs become your actions, and your actions become your life. Pay attention to your money and you'll start to build a better relationship with it.
Belief #3: People with money are greedy OR it's not spiritual to have money. When we have a negative judgment against others, our subconscious will never allow us to have that abundance we're judging because we believe it's negative. Know your worth and your worthiness to have abundance, and understand that money is just a tool to trade value for value.
Belief #4: I'm not ____ enough. This thought takes you out of the game. No one will value you more than you value yourself -- know your worth and begin to put your attention on what you value about yourself and the ways you bring value to the world. Write down three of these things before bed each night so that you begin to grow that muscle.

My negative money belief is that I don't think I have enough money to grow a successful business. The way I've been tackling it is writing a list of every single thing I can do to improve my money with the finances that I do have. Thanks for this video, it gave me a new perspective!

Something that's been holding me back is the belief that money is hard to get and there isn't much of it. Thanks to these videos I'm opening up my mind and realizing money is only as hard to get as I make it. I'm reminding myself that it actually ISNT hard to get and there is PLENTY to go around. Thanks guys!

Wow..."3 things you value yourself and 3 things you add value to somebody that day"...write them in your journal...that is such a revelation. i started writing Daily Journal because of my Dad's passing last months when he wrote on 12/17/2015 in his journal "i thank my son (me) whom took me to happy birthday breakfast this morning". i wrote only about whatz up what's happenning but never about others or people i add value to...

I always have this fear deep inside of me when it comes to looking at my bank account or looking at the amount of debt I owe due to school. When I look at my bank account I right away compare it to the amount of debt I owe crumbling inside I start to think 'I will never get through this debt' or 'I need more money to even make a dent in my debt and still be happy doing things I love to do in life'. This video has changed the way I think and I have made my first financial budget planning out how I can control my debt and still be who I am and do what I love!!! Thank you for your guidance and amazing conversations!!!!!!

I just went through my debts and totalled them up, also my monthly expenses.
One of my negative feelings about having money is my dad was stressed and sick all the time because of his business, and ended up retiring early.
I love the idea of writing down 3 things I value in myself and I can't remember the other part.

Love you both. Thank you for these points. I know my ‘mantra’ is I need ($20,000) to do what I need to do to become successful. Whatever amount of money I determine I NEED to have to (1) become successful, (2) start the road to success (3) extract myself from an abusive environment is ALWAYS 100x more than I have...
If I BELIEVE the universe will support me in my steps toward my goals, that could be the action I could take... Move forward (somehow) as if ..

yeah, those are the thoughts to let go of...let just pass through your mind and then counter with the complete opposite thoughts until the opposite thoughts are the ones that pop up more in your mind. If you worry about those things and think those thoughts, you can only continually attract the same things you think. Hope in the past 10 mos. you've found a way to think different and attract differently. If not, employ the method above immediately and change your life. Lack is a lie. the energy of life is abundance until we are born into a life where people have poverty mentality and/or we have a poverty mentality. We can have an abundant mentality and find that things flow into our life that have less to do with money and more to do with 'having everything we need and want in abundance'.

First off, I've stumbled across your site by accident. I cannot express how lucky I am to do so! Your videos and blogs are helping me to look at myself honestly. Though uncomfortable most of the time, it is a task I must do to not only recognize issues I face or don't face, but to also make the necessary steps to change myself and my future. Thank you Marie!
In response to your video, "Change Your Money Beliefs", I feel that I am not smart enough to do anything. I appreciate the suggestions made by Kate Northrup in keeping a value journal and writing three things that I value about myself, or the value I add to others' lives. With this, I look forward to gaining the confidence to move forward and making bigger steps towards my goals.
A side note, I'll be watching your videos and reading your blogs daily. It really helps me to face my fears and to discredit the lies I tell myself. Once again, thank you, thank you, thank you!

My negative belief is that pursuing more money will take away the little bit of peace I have managed to find exactly where I am. More money means more stress, more responsibility, less family time and less happiness at this point in time. I am dealing with it by thinking of the ways that money will add to my life and recognizing that I will still have free time when I am earning more.

Amazing, I grew up a coptic orthodox christian and they keep on saying "the love of money is the root of all evil" now I understand it doesn't literally mean that way, and that it means loving money for selfish unhealthy reasons is the root of all evil. As for money and spirituality was still kind of a limiting belief to me because again I grew up in an environment that denies anything materialistic and life joys and in the same time says it's okay to go after getting better financially and it caused me confusion to be honest, but as Kate said I'm going to start seeing money as a way of adding value now.
    Thanks Marie and Kate :)

I have had 2 beliefs: Who's got the money is the one to blame and the other one is that I was scared of money: what to do about it- keep shining and offering the value to my people!!

My limiting belief: I am not smart/clever enough to make a lot of money or enjoy wealth. (one of the limiting phrases that Kate mentioned in the video!) And the most ironic part of this is that I have held jobs where my sales record is the highest in the company! But my upbringing and going back to my family business and falling back into our old family roles and dynamics has been killing my self-esteem. I am taking action now from Marie's videos to own my self-worth, to believe that I can make good money and eventually have wealth, and to say bye bye to my family business and be bold enough to pursue my own business.

'saving' and being cheap is the belief that was holding me back. When I was younger I didn't invest in outings with my friends enough and travels. Because of that I didn't have friends to help when I needed it. Money is just a tool. experience and social network is just as valuable.

just had an epiphany while watching this, sometimes the reason why we want to let someone else take care of things for us (point #1) is a feeling of being not enough...that really resonated, finally shed light on some long standing behavior...can't thank you enough for discussing this topic!

One belief I have gotten better at but is STILL holding me back it that I believe I am not worthy of spending money on myself OR I always sort of minimize the value I provide with my business. My main employer is my older sister so it makes things mushy. BUT the ONE thing I will do is keep the journal that was talked about. It is really hard for me to do anything consistently for longer than about 12 days but I am going to try REALLY hard because I truly believe this will help me tremendously.

I love these women. Not only they talk about money, they akso talk about virtues. They are classy, polite, relaxed. I like that. What is inside manifests outside. That is the fruit of right spirit.

Thank you for this! I will try the gratitude technique. One of the beliefs I have is that I'm not meant to have the wealth and success I desire. Wasn't my belief to begin with but one I've been told by my family (as recent as a year ago & I'm over 50 - damn, give it a rest already!) is that I am bad with money, always have been, always will be. Brings up such sadness. I am trying to move past it but honestly, have no idea. I tap, meditate & try to think positively.

Great video! There's this thing people can do to help get rid of their CCs faster: Debt Snowball. You start with the smallest balance card first, add a set amount of extra you're paying on it every month. When it's paid off, move that amount of payment over to the next credit card. The amount of money you're paying on each goes up exponentially as the smaller one is paid off.

Wow...this really opened my eyes in so many ways...too many to comment here but the main part for me was my self value...I realized just in this video (which is my new favorite and that I wrote notes on pretty much word for word) is how important it is for me to value myself and the talents, life skills, wisdom I do have to offer others!! I will definately will be creating a 'Self Value' Art Journal and also be checking my account every day!! Thanks to both Marie and Kate for this (for me) life changing teaching!! God bless you both!

Love kate's look, she's really pretty.
Limiting money belief- i dont have enough money to get started/ to invest in myself...
I will and have already invested in myself and will feel the fear but do it anyway. I just paid for a class on self improvement! havent started the class but i'm going to let the information and tools seep in and not think about the money spent but think of value coming in.
I'm also telling myself slowly that "I am the best investment I have". Sending you love Marie!

    • @laliday
      @laliday 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Charlie Cakes , you don't need a class. you have to define what investing means for you and what, how it will actually benefit you. education, travel, relationships with successful acquintances, experience, being helpful, impressing others with your abilities, getting out of your comfort zone, being responsible, watch how others became successful and try to imitate that

Here's a great tip on #2. I have a Bank of America account and have set up all my accounts to send me a daily alert of my balance. It goes to my email and my phone BAMM! I'm constantly reminded to manage my finances daily. And because so many things are on auto pay, it's definitely saved me from overdrafts when my rotating account gets low. I also set up low balance alerts - if my accounts get under a certain balance, it alerts me. Of course, the intention is to keep increasing this balance and you'll find you'll make more and more money to keep it at the balance.

Hello Marie ok well here is my limiting belief thats been holding me back. That like you mentioned I feel like I should not focus on material possessions or acumulating wealth instead I should focus on my spirituality. How I will change this: By realizing that without money I can not be spiritual because I am too worried and stressed about my financial situation. I also can not help others who are in need and I can not reach my full potential. Hard work is spiritual being honest and working towards my goals is spiritual and it is what I need to do to make a real difference in the world. My bad money belief: I'm selfish if I spend money on myself or even put myself first. I also had a problem saying "no."
I used to sneak to buy myself anything, yet I would give my family everything. Being a single parent, I would feel guilty everytime I did something for myself. Almost like I worked hard, yet didn't feel like I deserved to reap the rewards of my hardwork. I practically worked, pay bills, work, pay bills... Most people would look forward to their paychecks, me, I dreaded it.
My mom told me, "each time you get paid do something for yourself." That worked out half-assed.
I was still dealing with my emotional money issues, until recently. I just got tired of feeling that way. We are not talking five years, we're talking "now my kids are grown" years. I figured I'd try something new. Cause what the hell I had to lose, I was already rock bottom.
I began saying abundance and prosperity affirmations and giving thanks multiple times a day. I also tell myself that "I am worthy & deserving of abundance." I mean every single day.
I feel better, positive, light. Like a heavy weight is lifted off my shoulders. I've also noticed positive changes happening because I'm changing my mindset. Anyways, didn't mean to write a soliloquy. But, hey, here we are.
Thank you Ladies for such a great video!

Watching this, I realized that if I have money, others want to take it from me.
So if I have none... there's nothing to take.
Also the things I really want seem so expensive, the only way I can have them is winning the lottery jackpot.

With regard to #3, another application of this is growing up hearing negative comments about money or those who have it [the judgments you mention]. This tells us that if we have money we will be judged & criticized too. Why is it that knowing this doesn't stop it?! Help!

    Great video.
Mine are (in varying amounts): I'm just starting out. I've never had that much money before. I'm not worth that amount yet. I haven't earned that kind of value. Money isn't spiritual/is evil. I'm only 24.
Action: I'm going to write in my journal 3 things everyday on how I gave, created or showed value.
    Thanks!

.....I just got out of a 4 yr relationship with a woman who was always making me question my worth. She came from an abusive marriage and she would belittle me with her comments in front of people that were clearly hurtful but she would see as a joke. She never complimented me on anything and her affection just got less and less and less . Making me feel quite worthless. The poison of this relationship finally got to me and I asked her to move out. Great right? I felt worthless before and now I'm alone. Crazy thing is....when I first met her I had an ego out to there. Now I feel used up and I've been looking for a way to get out of the hole I've dug myself into. I have a mammoth film project I started working on and I'm balking on everything. My heart isn't into it. One day I'm hot the next day I say to myself: "Nobody in Hollywood is going to let my make this movie so why am I bothering"! I've been pursuing a career in film for over 20 years and nothing has happen for me. Sure I've had small accomplishments but I still haven't sold a screenplay (came so close twice). Rejection has taken its toll. Rejection from this woman and 20 years rejection in my career has gotten me to the point where I DON'T LOVE MYSELF ANYMORE! So thank you for your advise. BIG HUG!!!
