We almost didn't get this song because she was reluctant releasing it due to how personal it is. It is still to this day, my favourite song across hololive brand. She's not my favourite singer/artist/performer in hololive, even within the EN branch, nor she's my no. 1 favourite. But this song, still after many years still holds no. 1 position for me across all other holo songs that I have heard.

I recommend “off with their heads” by her, if you want pure rapping.

I was going to say either Off With Their Heads or Red are both good examples of her pure rap abilities. End of a Life is more a demonstration of her technical lyrical writing skills and emotional payoff.

RIP was what made her blow-up because it came out of nowhere and the song itself was interesting.
Her older music has much more focus into rap, so her early EP's are a good place to start for that.
She is a very experimental artist in the fact that she loves trying new things so her newer stuff is a whole slew of genre mixes.
Rap, in her new songs, is often mixed in, but it's no longer the focus for most pieces in her new albums and EP's. Usually only one or two now are rap focused.
Her discography is a very interesting and fun journey.

I think "end of a life" is recommended a lot, on the technical side, for its showcase of her lyricism, but it's also just a great showcase of her singing and one of the many cases of her using music to express herself meaningfully and honestly. A fun fact is that she almost didn't release the song because she didn't think it was good enough. Thank god she did. lol
RIP is the first song she put out when she debuted and is one that many people know her for; "end of a life" came out a year after she debuted in Hololive. If you're looking for rapping that leans more towards face-melting side, you could look into some early Mori, the "Your Mori" EP, which came out a few months before "end of a life." Any of those four songs would be a great listen. "Red" is iconic, "Grim Reaper is a Live Streamer" is funky, "guh" is tongue-in-cheek, and "Bully" is...I dunno how I'd describe it. Hell, give the whole EP a listen.
She does take on some more technically impressive challenges in later works, but I think it might be good to stick with some early Mori first. Perhaps it's nostalgia but "Your Mori" remains one of my favorite works of hers as a whole.

These are solid recommendations, Red in particular is kinda probably more what he was expecting from this, but definitely weighted towards her earlier stuff as you say. She's branched out and has a big range in her more recent stuff, so I'd recommend Taste of Death, Kamouflage, Nezumi Scheme, and Future Island to get a feel for the different types of thing she's done since.

    • @effortlessfury
      @effortlessfury 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@ThatGuyYouSeeCommentingOnClips To be honest, the main reason (aside from my personal preference to start toward the beginning) is that her later works are so varied I find it hard to recommend anything specific.

Before Calli joined Hololive she was in the underground rap scene in Japan prior to the pandemic and when it did hit, it shut down the bars and most of her friends were forced to seek out other employment in order to survive. Calli initially signed up to join the first generation of Hololive English Vtubers as a joke thinking that she wouldn't get signed on. She didn't tell her friends about it and you can imagine how that turned out. The majority of her friends turned their backs on her for "Selling Out" and this song is about being perceived as a villain and her feelings about it. She did a lyrical breakdown shortly after the song was released. She almost didn't release the song due to how personal it was to her.
"End of a Life" is her at her most vulnerable and raw another song that I would recommend would be "Cursed Night" which came out before End of a Life and is about her feelings due to her sudden success as a Vtuber.Callie is a certifiable workaholic and her Dead Beats (Calli's fanbase) has told her to slow it down, she has a literal playlist of songs you could listen to and you can tell how hard she works at her craft.

RIP is definitely what put Calli on the map for a lot of people, what with it being the first song we heard from her in her debut livestream. It may not be her proudest work, and she absolutely has made better songs since, but as I wouldn't have discovered her without RIP it'll always hold a special place for me.
Thanks for checking out End of a Life! Would you believe this song was almost thrown out?

really enjoyed your two calli reactions so far. if you are looking for something more instrumentally and vocally intense I can recommend her song "six feet under" from her 2023 EP Jigoku 6. I think you would find that one very interesting.

If you wanna hear Calli's rapping skills I recommend the songs Nezumi Scheme, Carousel of Imaginary Images, and Resting Power. Calli is a rapper, but she herself has stated that she has been liking Rock more and Rap Rock.

Hololive definitely has some talent, although Calli is very much her own thing and no one is exactly like her. Suisei is probably the obvious next person to check out, her "Stellar Stellar" is an excellent song, extremely interesting musically, and was on The First Take, although I'd recommend starting with the original version first, personally.

Most Hololive vtubers sing "anime songs" (basically j-pop and vocaloid covers), and not all of them can sing or aiming for singing carrier.
But ones who sing seriously stunning it on wrist variety.
As example. Hakos Baelz has loud and energetic "PSYCHO" and melancholic "Millions Miles Away". She loves hip-hop and ballads.

Amazing video and React RoninMan!! Loved it so much and glad this song hit.
"End of a Life" has many lyrical meaning in it that im sure the other deadbeats in here will tell you so ill leave it to them lol.
I'll give you the perfect list of Mori's most rap heavy song.
    1. RIP - yes her first big "hit" with crazy views but also one Calli has mentioned doesn't deserve the views it has but so be it.
    2. NEZUMI Scheme - If you know what swing is, this is Swing and Rap. So fun, so good. She is friends with "FAKE TYPE" who helped on the song and is a master of Swing and rap
    3. Six Feet Under - Produced by TK, maker of Unravel if you have heard. More singing rap side, but has a rap solo that is insanely fast and good with backing drums from the drummer of CrossFaith
    4. I'm Greedy - Produced by legend JP the WAVY. This is straight hardcore Japanese rap. Goes hard, stays hard, and will open you up to jp rap.
I'll stop there before the list/post gets to long lol. These are all awesome content reacts if you like em! Hope you keep enjoying the GOAT, keep up the awesome vids!

Nice reaction! If you want something a little more on the rap/intense side from her, I'd recommend from her older stuff, "Off with their heads" was a song that left a lot of people talking for quite some time, if you want to be introduced to another Hololive gigant, she and her coworker Suisei made a song named "Getcha!". From newer songs I'd recommend "Six Feet Under", "Wanted wasted" or "Donmai".

    @mistersnake5835 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Here's a few more of her songs tha I can remember that has more rapping(?):
Holy Shitto (Old School beat, unofficial sequel to Off With Their Head)
Let's End the World (track by Giga and TeddyLoid, both also worked on Go-Getters)
Six feet under (although more Nu Metal I think)
Nezumi Scheme ( Electroswing/J-rap, her bread and butter style back in the early days)

Always happy to see someone check out Mori!
It will always be disputed what her "best", song is but very few (including myself) will dispute this as the answer.
As far as all of Hololive being on this level I'd say at least performatively all of their members are capable like this, but as far as how most think of the total package of being an artist I think only Mori Calliope, and Hoshimachi Suisei are at the level you may be thinking of. Other members like Hakos Baelz, Tokoyami Towa, Tsunomaki Watame, and others I'm not as familiar with being undeniably capable as well.
If you want more Mori, while I can accept this as her best song I truely think her best work is her entire recent album Phantomime and highly recommend you check out Cult Following

It’s good ur reacting to “End of a Life”, my fav old work from her is “Resting Power”, I love the “in the face” of her energy in the song, but aside that, if u want to listen to more songs like this from her, u can hear some in her latest album Phatomime.
These 3 songs are “skeletons”, “Last Days” and “through the blue”
For more on the hard rock or rock in general sounding songs from the album that I like is “DONMAI”, “Cult Following” and “Overkill”

4:18 All the Hololive artists are unique, and that's what makes them special.
Suisei is of course amazing, and IRyS has a great library that's very JPop-influenced. Watame's My Song is beautiful, and Bae (Hakos Baelz) has large collection of original songs with a wide range of genres. Hololive ID also has some bangers from talents like Moona and Reina. There's also the music-focused branch ReGLOSS, I loved Kanade and Ririka's cover of Zezezezetai Seiki.
Sometimes the music is ephemeral, Gura, Mumei and IRyS are beloved for their karaoke streams, but due to copyright issues, those streams are unarchived (unless they do licensed only - usually Japanese or original Hololive songs - songs) and can only be experienced in real time or if they get clipped and re-uploaded.
End of a Life is still one of my favorites, I remember when the instrumental version was Calli's outtro music for over a year, that still makes me nostalgic every time I hear it.

Hololive sure has a lot of nice idol music, but since there are so many talents, there's a lot of variety thanks to everyone doing pretty much whatever they want, both in the form of original songs and covers. Songs that come to mind are Mumei's "Mumei", Moona's "Persai Jitu", Towa's "Anemone", Bae's "Psycho", Risu's "Sing Out", Azki's "Inochi" and Suisei"s "Ghost" and a lot more.

As a composer the songs of Hoshimachi Suisei, especially the recent ones, have every musically inclined person I've ever seen just stopped stunned. Especially anything that was touched by Taku Inoue. Go see Stellar Stellar. For HoloLive fans when we want to drag a musical minded person down the rabbit hole for good, this is where we go.
As for Calli, for most of the fans End of a Life is her number one yes. We'll often throw that towards anyone we want to get hooked on Calli before anything else if you want face melting Rap, I think one of the best example of that was her song Red, or if you want a Firey Raging diss track: Off with their heads.

    Future Island
    Mera Mera

I once heard the president of Hololive say that he wanted the EN and JP vtubers, including calli, to be artists like Hatsune Miku. We tend to think of them as anime-like because of their appearance, but I think that each of them is a talented singer, artist, and streamer.
Now in Japan, they are being recognized as a group of artists. In particular, JP member Hoshimachi Suisei is doing music activities with real artists. And many Japanese people highly appreciate her singing ability.
If you want to listen to songs other than calli, I recommend Takanashi Kiara's Do U and Hakos' Psycho for EN members. For JP members, I recommend Hoshimachi Suisei's new song moonlight (produced by Natori) and Inugami Korone's Doogy God's Street.

    Nice reaction.
Yeah, this song is loved and gets recommended as much as it does i think largely because it is Calli at her best and most confessional lyrically. I understand it lacking as much wow factor if you are someone who doesn't pay as much mind to lyrics.
RIP was indeed the song that caused her to blow up and it is probably closer to what you were expecting. Fans probably avoid recommending it now half because they've heard it too many times and half because it is a bit style over substance compared to some of her later work, but for a new fan it remains a good hook
A few other songs I'd recommend if you specifically want to see her rapping skill on display are Off With Their Heads, The Grim Reaper is a Live Streamer and Ijimekko Bully. Oh and another one you might like is Let's End the World, its her with same production team as Go Getters, but it features a bit more rap.

Another Hololive member whose music is definitely not cutesy (though in a different way) is Tokoyami Towa. Songs like FACT, Raimei, and Anemone are good for showing off that, while Palette is like End of a Life in showing off the more emotional side.

RIP put Calli on the map, but it's not comparable to her newer works.
You want pure rapping skill, I would go with Off With Their Heads, Wanted Wasted, or the final verses of ( six feet under ).
IMO, if you want her BEST song though it's Left For Dead Lullaby.
You won't find an MV but it's on her YT Spotify etc
You also won't find her doing a lyric breakdown for it either like most of her songs as it's rather dark but damn good.

Regarding her early works: When Calli first appeared in Hololive she was very much Not On Board with the whole jpop idol thing and kind of set off on a mission to subvert it singlehandedly. Her stylistic influence since can be seen scattered all over the company in the work of other talents as well, to the company's benefit. She has since mentioned that she has found a greater respect and appreciation for the role of idols in entertaining after participating in the yearly company-wide "Fes" shows and seeing how hard the talents work to put on the events.

If you wanna check out old songs that stood the test of time. The “Your Mori” album has 4 songs and still one of her strongest, even though it was her second batch dropped.
Newest songs? Her “PHANTOMIME” album just came out and is pretty amazing. “Sinderella” and “JIGOKU 6” are still going strong too.
