    great paint job and the weathering is first class . the good thing about 1/16 scale is we can see more individual detail in the weathering of certain parts . Awsome build Andy 👍

    Finally broke down today, for the first time in maybe two decades I bought Tamiya paint again, my first experiments (brush) were pretty bad. Let's see how the airbrushing goes.

      rotwang2000 Tamiya themselves sell paint retarder for hand brushing their paints. It is a must as the paint dries too quickly for hand brushing otherwise as even though it is acrylic it contains alcohol. 😊

      To clean up string, pass it through a candle flame, it will burn off all the fine hair, before fitting rub some PVA glue diluted 50/50 into it, this will stiffen it and glue down wayward fibres

      @@GrahamWalters Exactly. In building the Trumpeter 1/16 King Tiger I found that using thick twine treated in exactly tis way worked much better than the metal cable supplied in the kit: it painted up much more trouble-free and I could shape it the way I wanted.

    Great work Andy. You use simple techniques to get outstanding results that are not overdone. Rust and chipping in particular are two areas I feel are way overdone much of the time and I appreciate your less-is-more approach. Those tracks are some of the best examples of weathered metal I have seen. Really nice.

    Just as a tip. I have found, that when I was rigging a model of HMS Victory, the thread was very hairy. So, I mixed some PVA glue with water, making a mixture that was the consistency of milk. I then wet my thumb and forefinger with the glue and ran the thread between them. This caused the minute hairs to bond to the thread. Being PVA, it does not take long to dry. The added bonus being that the, now dry, PVA acted as primer coat for paint.

    Great video. I actually had the Tamiya RC Full Option Kit of the Jagdpanther and the same in the Panther G. I did end up selling them but I really regret it now.
    I fitted Aber side skirts to both tanks and I must say that they looked awesome.
    On the Jagdpanther I used a aftermarket alloy main gun trunnion and a upmarket alloy main gun barrel and numerous aftermarket parts.

      A technique I like is rubbing (with a good old Mark V digit) powdered graphite onto a black or dark grey base. You can still highlight with silver tones after if you like, but it's a great way to make something look unequivocally metal. I've even used it on movie props such as dummy firearms.

  • @timtheeagle1
    @timtheeagle1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    You're the best Andy, thanks for sharing! One thing that bothers me though...why would Tamiya not give us plastic hull and suspension and sell it for $150 cheaper? I think they'd sell a lot more of them?! As a guy who's built RC tanks I know that chassis is PRICEY!!!! I also know some RC tank come with a plastic hull, and they're less than half the price. Who needs that metal hull on a STATIC model? Yes, I like the metal barrel, but you'll never know it had working suspension or a metal hull sitting on a shelf! Might as well buy the RC kit at that point. Seems like they took the lazy route, which means a lot more expensive for us and probably a lot fewer sales for them. BTW, my first RC tank in 1:16 scale had a plastic hull and it never had an issue driving around hitting stuff...didn't really "need" it on the RC version either. Eventually I upgraded, but it's so excessive on a static model. There, I'm off my soap box! :P

    • @TheLouHam
      @TheLouHam 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because making the tooling for those plastic molds actually cost quite a bit, especially since the 1/16 market is tiny compared to smaller scales. RC tanks that have plastic hulls usually ends up being customized and strengthened with various metal parts by owners who wants to run their tanks outdoors for tank battles.

    You can build mobile ICBM launchers *RS-24 «Yars»* or *RT-2PM2 «Topol-M»* if such models are available. And if both are available, have one in the "launch" configuration (missile container in vertical position), other in the "transport" configuration.

    Tamiya is usually quite good with their model's, however this one leaves quite a pause.
    This model represents a G2 version of the Jadgpanther. That said, it is mostly wrong. All of the tools on the G2 were taken off the sides of the vehicle and placed on the engine deck, back of the superstructure or the rear of the vehicle, clearly not represented with this kit, shame on Tamiya and Andy, for clearly Not doing their homework. Alas, it could have been so much more, especially in this scale, but is merely just another ho hum well built and painted kit.

    Now they're left with a huge track pin end and lug, but no actual pin going through the track..
