Rome Odunze was the #2 player on Ryan Poles' draft board. He is also a superior prospect to any defensive player that was on the board at 1.09.

Yea but give it time and see how it plays out because he may be the "superior prospect" but guys careers pan out in all sorts of different ways regardless of how good of a prospect they were. Tom Brady is the biggest example of that

The funny thing is I believe they actually may have drafted the second best pure pass rusher in Austin Booker outside of Latu don't get me wrong I love Verse and the kid from Alabama I just think that Austin Booker's ceiling is very high he is already working out with Crosby and has put on a good 15 plus pounds since The College season has ended. I think rather it was Malik or Rome you could not pass up those guys for a defensive player the 1st rd talent at wide receiver was amazing in this year's draft and Ryan stays one step ahead didnt draft a quarterback last year because he knew this crop of quarterbacks was deeper and the defensive end group that's coming out next year is far better than this one I bet money he has his eyes on a few of those pass rushers.

I mean sure but history is not on your side with that. There arent very many 5th round DEs that have panned out

@@BearskiFilm well I'm not quite sure about history because players like Tom Brady and Russell Wilson as well as many other future Hall of Famers were drafted very late I'm quite sure there's plenty defensive ends as well that have been drafted late or were undrafted that have had successful careers the draft is not an exact science it's not about where you're drafted especially if you have the talent and measurables like Austin has I know Ryan had Rome and Caleb one and two on his draft board so it wouldn't make any sense to pass up on a player that you have had ranked so high doing this draft process you also want Insurance in case you don't plan on resigning Keenan Allen, also like my main point is I believe the pass rush draft class is far better in 2025 so why not get a young talented developmental player now and you can still double down next year when the talent at that position is far greater just my humble opinion

    Your logic is flawed.

In the 2023 draft Poles went offense with his 1st rd pick then 3 straight defensive players before WR was chosen. Expect improvement from Stevenson, Dexter, and Pickens in yr 2. If it happens the Bears defense should be in good shape this season.

You don't draft for need you draft the best player available. Too many teams miss by drafting for need and miss out on a generational talent. I completely agree that Rome was the best player available. Injuries happen in football so the argument that we are razor thin at defensive end is an argument most teams can say about any position. It is very rare for a team to be healthy all season. The Bears have cap space and if they needed an end they can trade for a rental or sign a player after cuts.

right and that approach has proven in the past to succeed. The thing im trying to say tho is, u had a chance to drop back, add draft capital, and still have a pick of the litter at the best available defensive player. But I get it, they were super high on Rome
