Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta: "I Can Retire Now" | Aggressive Tendencies

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 31 ส.ค. 2016
  • Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta has been fronting the band for more than 20 years but admits that for him, his career highs are happening right now. Most memorably was a recent show in Munich with Metallica, Exodus and Testament. James Hetfield asked to get a picture with all four vocalists, and Jamey tells us, "I'll go home and retire right now... [to be considered amongst] three guys who I had posters of on my wall!"June 06, 2016.

I never knew anyone who worked harder than Jamey Jasta! The best times were in the beginning for me although I'm very proud of a Hatebreed for being popular but being there for those first couple years of early Hatebreed just seeing every show watching them gain momentum mastering the metal core genre!

I loved when heavy music was new to me and you could just dive into it and it all felt fresh and amazing. It's still great but when you're exposed to it for so long it's hard to find those diamonds in the rough that are really putting out music worth listening to. I guess you just have to dig and filter more thoroughly. That being said I really enjoy the production quality of today. So I guess to sum things up I enjoy the songwriting of days gone by but the production value of today :) regardless, I'm going to support any band that I like Hatebreed included and I agree with Jamey some foundation artists keep getting better with each release

It's not that people ONLY like "the 7"" or their fav bands demos, it is because THAT'S what got them INTO that band, THEY SAW THE MAGIC, THE FURY, THE MIRROR'S REFLECTION IN THOSE ALBUMS! I LOVE Social Distortion but my favorite album is Live At The Roxy (5th/6th album) because THAT is the album that got me into them. I love Sevendust's Home(2nd album), Rancid And Out Come & Life Wont Wait (3rd & 4th) Hatebreed's Satisfaction...., Metallica Black Album (5th album, I still to this day have never bought kill em all, justice or ride the lightning) DROWN Product of a Two Faced World(2nd), HED P.E. Broke (2nd) MudVayne L.D.50, (2ND ALBUM) I love all these albums because these are the albums that introduced me to these bands and opened a door somewhere in the back of my mind that I cannot close. DISCOVERING an album is different from waiting and trying to look for things you like in an album because its from a band you love, those are two very different journeys.

There are bands who peak early. Though not as many as people try to make you believe. I agree with his sentiment that the new releases deserve a fair listen.
A lot of great stuff is coming out all the time in the heavy music scenes.

    • @AggressiveTendencies
      @AggressiveTendencies  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Agreed! Did you see our interview with Max and Igor Cavalera, where they say the metal scene is as good now as it was 30 years ago? th-cam.com/video/6U1fpCjBiQM/w-d-xo.html

Aggressive Tendencies not yet but I agree with that sentiment. A lot more variety in metal now. A lot more shitty bands too, but tons more new and innovative sounds.

I 100% agree with him when he talks about people hating on bands later in their career. Yeah there are some bands that tank after 2 or 3 albums, move on then. However, most of the bands I listened to 15 years ago, I'm still enjoying their work today.
A7X, KORN, Alter Bridge, Linkin Park(which admittedly did take me some time to adjust too, A Thousand Suns I hated when it came out, but absolutely love it now), Story of the Year, The Offspring, Atreyu, Killswitch Engage, Breaking Benjamin, Epica, Lacuna Coil, Godsmack, Hatebreed, Limp Bizkit(Gold Cobra was amazing), Rammstein, Drowning Pool, Light the Torch, Chevelle(Howard Jones), Within Temptation.
All of those bands are still putting out material that I enjoy, in most cases, more than their old stuff.

I agree with what he's saying too, don't be one of those elitists that's stuck in the past, support what they're doing now, because their recent material is fucking awesome. Perseverance is where it started for me, but I'm cranking up that new material now.

Well, I mean, I was one of those guys who liked old Metallica. Lightning through Justice era. Black I dug enough. Then didn't really like much until the last record Hardwired. Now I am like... ok, I can like what they do now again. But I get what Jamey is on about. Don't just be a "Their first record wasn't nearly as good as their first record" kind of fan. Honestly with Hatebreed I feel like it is similar to High on Fire. There is just a quality that it always has so I don't have an "era" early days mode with Hatebreed or High on Fire. There was no real lull in quality so.. yeah. The latest record is just as relevant to me.

Jasta is very right, this cliche in heavy music to not like anything recent, its strange how much rap and metal are so opposite, even in their fans perspective, in rap/hip hop the thing is to only like shit that came out 5 minutes ago and fuck the past and the pioneers, they are old. Then on the metal/hardcore end it's this cliche to act all elitist and not be supportive of anything that isn't at least 10 or 15 years old, which is unfair to some great newer bands but your also doing yourself a disservice because alot of old school legends are dropping some great records RIGHT NOW, enjoy the past and the present, not just dwell on one or the other

Agnostic Front nowadays? Haha. Roger Miret sounds like a low-rent Fred Durst on every recent track I've tried listening to. AF has been cringey since perhaps Something's Gotta Give. Really, all this hardcore stuff has long outlived its shelf life. Time and place are not the same.

What they're doing now isn't the same as what they've done in the past. Yeah sure it has the same sound, but that's because it's still fucking Hatebreed. Surely you're not going to pull them down for sounding like themselves, but then call them out for progressing.
      That's just completely contradictory.
