I was 20 when this come out 1979 i,m 63 now have this on 12 " vinyl along with the other 300 vinyl,s i have She was 23 in this clip on top of the pops in the u,k, if she was alive today she would be 67 yrs old
We used to wear this out on the dance floor...Docks & Zanzibar in Newark, NJ and, Sultans 2001 in East Orange, NJ....and the Paradise Garage of course!!!!
If you like this, try 'Hit Man' or 'Can You Feel it', she was marketed as a black singer in the States , she was jailed for drug possession/drug smuggling after she'd recorded the album 70's, so she couldn't perform her some of her music when it came out. She was part of a fusion rock group in the early 70's and was 'discovered' on the streets of Paris by the music producer Pierre Jaubert. the drug addict boyfriend was also a musician called Phillipe Briche, he led her into hard drugs as he was a user himself. She has a beautiful voice, thankfully we have these recordings for posterity.
Not by her boyfriend. Her boyfriend was into drugs and Chantal copped the bullet that was intended for her boyfriend. This was in Jerusalem. Very tragic.

Same time and era. I loved the Paradise Garage at 84 King Street in Manhattan. Miss that place royally!
What a tune.. 17 yrs old when this came out.. years ago, Lol .. but this would ram any dancefloor back in the day. Original is the best though.
Love the live arrangement

Even though the backing is by the BBC's Top of the Pops live orchestra, I prefer it to the original. Well done BBC!
atmosfear1 the orchestral arrangement is superior on this version to the recorded version

Sounds funkier with the guitar & bass pushed up higher in the mix with no harmonica on this either. Was this version ever released?

Anyone know how old she was that year?.....This was 1979. She looks about 23 to 26 here.
I would say late 20's. She released her first record in 1973 as Chantal Alexandre.
