    Crazy everyone replaces the pickups on the sheraton. Ive replaced everything, even put a trapeze tailpiece on it. But the pickups have a fat unique sounds i cant seem to find in aftermarket high quality pickups

    Favor the 335 tones, but honestly surprised how close the Sheraton is in comparison. It really calls into question how much the price difference factors in.

  • @rzh3443
    @rzh3443 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not an electric expert but seems to me you could switch out the pickups on the Epiphone and perhaps get a “better” sound? The differences were small to me but probably better if heard in the same room. Wonder how the Murphy would compare with a standard 335 for half the price?

    • @drothberg3
      @drothberg3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stuart said that he upgraded the Epi's pickups to some very nice boutique ones.

    • @ltvddvtl
      @ltvddvtl 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely. Plus the wiring. If it was stock. even if the pickups he installed are good pickups. For a fair comparison it needs to be same wiring, same components, same pickups. Sound dynamics work in mysterious way like that.

    The $1000 price on the Sheraton is after the pups and wiring upgrade I assume? Because it sells in US for $900.

    I have a Epiphone Sheraton 2021, and a Gibson Dot 2022. Both are awesome but the Gibson was just better sounding. My suggestion IF you do a side by side comparison both guitars should be as manufactured without upgrades. Jus Sayin.

    To me the Epi sounds less open, not as sparkly as the Gibson. What would be really interesting though, is to put the same p/ups and wiring as the 335 in the Sheraton and then compare the two…

    • @StuartRyanMusic
      @StuartRyanMusic  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That would be interesting' the Epi has great pickups and an improved wiring, the stock pickups were way too muddy. Acoustically the differences are really apparent though, the Gibson has a lot of midrange clarity whereas the Epi is far flatter (and quieter). I love them both though for different reasons! Thanks for watching

      @@StuartRyanMusic This about the acoustic differences has more to do with each guitar. You go to a shop and play 2 exact models of 335s, made in the same day, and they will sound different acoustically. Wood is a natural product. I sold guitars to buy the exact same model and color because of that. Some are just more lively.

    Sheraton did a sound job but difference was pretty striking... for guitar nerd at least. I'll spice this further by saying if you upgrade the pups in the CS Gibo, you can go even PAF'ier (ya I know that sounds nuts after dropping that cash but some of the booooteakkkk folks are doing PAF clones better than Gibson)

    Love both the Gibson is better but not £5000 better I’d go epiphone all day everyday unless of course I won the lottery in which case I’d buy everything.

      I own a sheraton and I like the tree headstock, Plus sheratons are dis continued or rare now and I'm holding on to myne. I have the pro ii from a few years ago, Only had it for not that long. But the Gibson is definitely the better difference .@@StuartRyanMusic

      I have two MIK Sheratons one with stock pups and one with Classic 57s and I have a 2013 Gibson 335 CS Dot Memphis. The 335 feels better, plays better and sounds better but not that much better. The Sheratons are nice and I recommend them especially with a pup upgrade. On the other hand I got all 3 used but in good condition. The 335 has gone up in resale value by $1000 while the Sheratons have gone up $300 in resale value. That is a factor in your choice.

    I have a Sheraton and love it given I just play at home for fun - it's a way better guitar than I am guitarist. I guess what this video does show is that it would be excellent for gigging for those not wanting to risk the Gibson in certain venues for those who play live.

    To my ear, it wasn’t even close. The Gibson was clearer, more articulate. However, I don’t think it was even close to $5,000 better. Maybe twice as good, not 6 times better.

    • @ltvddvtl
      @ltvddvtl 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It would be interesting to know what the set up was. Clarity has a lot to do with pickup height and wiring too. It's very hard to make these type of comparisons be truly valid. It would need to be blind folded and then don't show the audience which guitar is being played. Plus make sure it is all apples to apples.

  • @ltvddvtl
    @ltvddvtl 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Nice demo. But it would have made it that much nicer if the guitar knobs had been shown. Just a little wider shot. 😉
    As for the tone differences you mention at the end, it would be a lot closer if the wiring and pickups were the same. Then it would be a more fair comparison.
    I'm not sure what year is your Sheraton. But the pre-1992 and specially 1986-1988, most don't realize how close they were made to the Gibson standard. Extended tenon/spliced heel like on vintage Gibsons, fret end nibs again like Gibsons, proper rosewood fretboard aged and dried properly, real mother of pearl and abalone inlays, 5 piece neck like a L5, 5-ply top, mahogany center block shaped after vintage Sheratons and a lot of small details, down to the neatness of the neck pocket. I also heard they are polyester and not polyurethane. Slowly they started losing these high end features. By 1996 or whereabouts they were not that different from the Chinese ones of today.

    The Gibson is 1000 times better. It sounds like a I'm listening to a complete guitar. The Epiphone sounds like I'm just hearing the string and it could be absolutely any budget guitar. Its hard to say exactly why that is but its not down to "tone wood" as both guitars are ply. So it has to be the setup, pickups, bridge ( especially the posts ) and tailpiece and the nut. I used to think nitro made a difference to the sound but I honestly think thats nonsense. The Nitro just feels nicer so the experience is better. One thing I did notice is that the Epiphone sounded like its action was to low. Kind of makes the notes sound plinky and thin when you dig in.

    • @StuartRyanMusic
      @StuartRyanMusic  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I do agree though the action on the Gibson is a bit lower than the Epiphone! In the hand unplugged the differences become even more apparent, the Gibson has a powerful midrange that can be heard acoustically (like a good archtop) whereas the Epiphone is flatter across the frequency range. But I love the Epi, it was my first good guitar 30 years ago and for the price it's a killer guitar!

    • @boblove2912
      @boblove2912 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@StuartRyanMusic Having done a little research since watching the video I now think I know why the Gibson sounds warm and full and the Epi sounds bright and plinky. The Gibson has a mahogany neck and the Epi is maple laminate. So the maple is giving that really sharp attack, kind of like a tele or a strat which of course both have maple necks. I wonder if 250K pots would help?
