- This video is from a couple of years ago when Chris and I went for an agate hunt in the Hinds river in South Canterbury, New Zealand. Chris found a bunch of really good agates. A big thunderstorm passed by to the south of us, for a while we thought it was heading straight for us.

I grew up on a farm with the hinds river just out the back door and I can say you guys have definitely found a gem spot to pick around in here a big hobby growing up was agate hunting up and down this river and it never disappointed! Small or big this river has some really amazing different finds out there and that's only on the surface!

Yeah, mine are all South Island, I think Coromandel has some good spots as well.
Are agates a good money making thing? Hinds river is only an hour away. It's strange listening to foreign accents collecting new Zealand stones in an Australian hat........
They're not worth much, not when you take into account the time and petrol.
