Yes my dear, that's the truth the western Invaders that invaded the Benin Kingdom tried to destroyed and hide, the Binis are well stretched all over Africa and our ancestors were the most powerful and creative, we were the largest/majority tribe/ethnic and the Greatest Kingdom, the most powerful warriors in the whole of West Africa' that was well afraid of by all" even by the Western Invaders themselves, the British never Conquered the Benin Kingdom instead our Oba ( Oba Ovonramwen Nogbaisi the Great ) decided to gave himself up in order to stop the killings by having the Bini warriors instructed to stopped the war, that was how the British was able to gained accessed into the Benin Kingdom!!! Majority of the land mass that made up Nigeria today is own by the Binis, our population was reduced after our Oba ( OBA EWUARE OGIDIGAN THE FIRST ) banned our people from having sexual intercourse for three years due to the anger of the death of his two sons on the same day and that led to a massive migration of our people from the Kingdom to other parts of Africa and it was reduced further after the British invasion!!!

ARUAN and his top lieutenants were defeated he jumped into the LAKE and his men fled westward to ONDO

I always find it ridiculous when people discuss Benin history and they talk about Yoruba.. Yoruba didn't exist until the 19th century and is only a socio-cultural group of people as distinct from a nation.. The Benin Kingdom, formerly known as Igodomigo has been perhaps the most powerful ethnic nationality in West Africa in the last 1,500 before the arrival of the colonizers. The people who today refer to themselves as Yoruba were then just a collection of villages, clans, and settlements e.g. Ife, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, etc..None of these aforementioned villages and settlements had the capacity to withstand Benin in a war.
In fact, the very idea of the unity of the Yoruba people started with Oduduwa, a Benin prince, who they now refer to as their progenitor. The shocking thing about the attempt by modern Yoruba historians to rewrite history is the fact that they all recognize the fact that that Oduduwa is no a native of Ife and could not speak or comprehend the local language when he first arrived. The Yoruba have deified oduduwa and claim he is descended from heaven. Others claim he came from the east to Ife.. For anyone to understand the power of Benin and how it became so great, they need to do an in-depth study of the history of Benin..

@@temiladealamudun5063 what you had before the 19th century was Oyo, Ife, Ondo, Ekiti, ijebu, ijesha, awori, and so on.. All of these were distinct nationalities. It wasn't until the 19th century they started to take up a joint identity which was called Yoruba, a corruption of the Fulani name for the Oyo people which is yariba. yariba means a dishonest person because the oyo people were seen as not straight forward which may still be true till this day.

@@temiladealamudun5063 Read what I wrote.. The people who go by the name yoruba today were just a collection of various settlements with their own unique dialect and system of government and political structure. In fact the name yoruba was first widely adopted by Bishop Ajayi Crowther... It was the Oyo people that were first called that name before the rest of what is now known as Yoruba land was co-opted into it. Of course the people are aborigines to the land and have settled the land for perhaps thousands of years.. They just weren't one people and neither did they have a common centre or King..

The Ifa oracle said that a person (a stranger) will emerge from the forest, from the east, to rule Ile-Ife. Then, Ife had no king, only a chief Obatala.
When the Benin Prince Ekhaladerhan/Izoduwa emerged from the forest, with a nobility carriage with some of his warriors and followers, he met Obatala and the people of Ile-Ife. At that time Oduduwa could NOT speak Yoruba because he was NOT a Yoruba man. Oduduwa and Obatala used divinity to communicate. After a while, the people of Ife were endeared to him causing Obatala to be jealous leading to a fight between Oduduwa and Obatala in which Oduduwa won. At the time Benin was still in turmoil and needed the son of Ogiso Iwodo to sit on the throne. News got to Chief Oliha that Izoduwa was never killed and that he fled westward. A search party was sent which found him at Ile-Ife. The search party asked Oduduwa to return to Benin to sit on the throne of his fathers but he was reluctant due to age etc. They asked that he sent one of his sons and he obliged sending Oramiyan with them to Benin. However when Oramiyan arrived Benin, Chief Ogiamien who was a reagent for the throne refused to give up the throne and the issues continued until Oramiyan left Benin to Oduduwa who told him there shouldn't be two kings in Ife. Therefore Oramiyan left for Oyo to found the Alaafin stool. So, whilst the Yoruba people always existed as a separate people from the Edos, the Edos established kingship for the Yoruba's through Oduduwa.

Yoruba people trying desperately to hijack Benin history.. But I always ask them one question which none of them has been able to answer and I base all my debate with them on that one question and I advise Benin people should do the same. The Yoruba and Ife history has it that Oduduwa is a foreigner in Ife and was unable to speak or comprehend the Ife language when he first arrived Ife..The Yoruba should tell us where Oduduwa is from since they accept he is not a Yoruba man. Some have said Oduduwa is from the sky, some have said he is from the east and recently some of them are saying he is from Saudi Arabia. How ridiculous.. Tell Yoruba people that if they can tell the world where Oduduwa is from, then Benin will accept their version of a fabricated history.

It is ppl outside that will argue themselves out . It's even funny both look alike. During the coronation of present Oba, he cleared this historical arguement in front of the Ooni and till today, Ooni never countered him. Instead, they visit and hug each other. Wrong linking of Oduduwa to Benin kingdom, Oduduwa is a native of Ile ife,Oduduwa was one of the 16 leaders in Ile ife during his time,Ifa divinity Oracle confirmed this narrative.,before the ascendance of Oduduwa Ile ife have had 97 kings,so Oduduwa was not the first king of Ile ife.
Oduduwa birth in Ile ife and ascension is of 1200 years old and his grandson is Oranmiyan who founded the current benin monarchy.

The yorubas have hidden the truth about whom oduduwa was for too long and have told their children wrong history and as such misinterprete the history, oduduwa was a banished prince from benin kingdom who made his way to ile ife and helped them fought against the fulani caliphate and was thereby crowned king in ile ife. His real name was ekaladeran but named himself after izoduwa when he arrived ile ife which they later corrupted to oduduwa, the binis only went in search of their lost prince to come and take over the throne of hia late father on getting to ile ife he had already become king and could mot return to benin kingdom but sent his first son to be the king in benin kingdom, the yorubas should go deep into the history to know the real truth. Oduduwa never descended from heaven he was a personage full blooded human and a crown prince from thw benin kingdom, he was not some sort of spirit from heaven as the yorubas narates.
