On first listen, the sound of this song reminded me a bit of Mary Kay Place (the actress) singing "Baby Boy" a few decades ago. She was on the TV show "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" at the time, and the song was autobiographical of her TV character; it ended up a hit on a lot of country stations. MKP's voice had a bit lower tone, though.
