What's the angle do to your consumable tip? I'm getting ready to an exhaust manifold off and have only used my TD Cutmaster 42 a couple times, I have 40 tips but no 20's.It seems like the tip didn't last very long cutting 1" square stock when you tilted it more.

When I used to do xray welding on thick plate (bridge I beams) we would prep one side of the plate with a v grove grind and weld that side then flip the plate over and back gouge (arc air gouging) on plate upto 150mm thick. These plasmas are obviously better for thinner materials I suspect upto 50mm would be ok looking at the results here (but would be way slower than a BIG arc air setup). Also just gouging cracks out then grind to clean out and shape and fill with weld material. The real beauty of gouging is when back gouging into a piece thats already welded, cracked or has weld defects internally after xray you can see the defects (cold lap or inclusions) as your gouging them out so you know how deep to go to do the repair which is critical for saving time. Obviously you save grinding/cutting discs using the arc air or plasma gouging processes.
