    Hello, everyone! I'm sorry this video was so incredibly long, I forgot to add ink swatches of the Pelikan Apatite Ink! Trust me, it's gorgeous!! I filmed this video the beginning of October, and I've had a new pen inked up with it since. Please let me know if you would like to see more fountain pen and fountain pen ink videos! 💗

    Yes, my kind of people. I started with more with the fountain pens and coloring with colored pencils and more recently learning to draw so that I can use my watercolors. It's so funny just how many matches I have in pens and inks. The nib creep is discussed a bit on a Goulet Pencast. I had it once on a pen. I cleaned it out and then it was fine.

    I just caught your video for the first time. I love your opinion about fountain pens and journaling. Until I got into fountain pens, I never Journaled. Now, with fountain pens and good paper, it is a pleasure. Sure, you can do it with a plain old pen and a steno pad, but for me, there is no pleasure in the act.
    One of my greatest pleasures is finding a good pen and the hunt for the perfect ink to compliment it. I started off inexpensive, and now it is startling at my most serious investment. But they give me joy. I like how you mix in art, and I want to do some of that, but I've put art aside so long ago that I need to rework those muscles a lot to meet my expectations. But your Bella has inspired my desire to get back some of my old skills. So, thanks for the inspiration!

      @TheGypsyChic1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for sharing with me. I feel the same way about journaling, and that is why I'm so glad I discovered fountain pens. Yes, good paper truly brings me more joy. I agree 100%.
      Yes, that is so true...the perfect ink always makes it even better. Haha, I started off thinking $37 for a Lamy was crazy... I'm very thankful for my goal setting and creative ways to find extra fun money for sure. I enjoy mixing my art with fountain pens so much, I really encourage you to try. Just remember to treat art like journaling. When you create for the joy of creating, instead of the finished painting...you may not be as hard on yourself. Thanks so much for the lovely comment. I enjoyed reading it very much, it is really nice to know I've inspired you to try art again! That is why I keep sharing!!

    Thank you so much for taking the time to record this and share your thoughts about each pen as you wrote with it. I too went down the similar path. I began to Bullet Journal in 2018 and found looked into fountain pens a bit but felt overwhelmed with lack of knowledge. Then I found Brian Goulet's old videos and binged them soaking up so much and enjoying learning about him, his business, and his family. It was like he was a fun professor! 😄 I have many fountain pens now and have really enjoyed, still enjoying actually as I still have much to learn, the process of finding the right nib, ink, paper combos for each purpose of writing. Not to mention the benefits I have found in many areas of my life as I have gone back to analog as my main way of writing daily. You pick up something new from each person who shares their experience along this journey of fountain pens. Thanks for sharing!

      Hi Jessica! Thank you much!! Yes, we both went down a similar path! Brian Goulet is a fun pen professor! That is so funny, and yet so true!! I also loved that he followed Dave Ramsey, which we follow loosely, as well. It's a love affair for sure, and so useful as you stated in many areas. YES, 100%!!! I enjoyed this video. I too have a collection of fountain pens. One of my favorites is the Aurora from Italy. I went down the rabbit hole for awhile. Now, I'm whittled down to 22. I'm also a calligrapher of sorts so I have a plethora of dip pens as well. Most calligraphers use gouach to write with. Only ink when you are learning to use a broad nib. It's all been a lovely education. Anytime you want to share fountain pens, I'm ready.

    To your Italian pen I wonder if the cap isnt creating a good seal so it dries out the ink over time. I have a cheap fpen that after some time dried out the ink but left a dried ink substance at the end of the nib. Maybe don’t use pigment ink 🤷🏻‍♂️ Hopefully you get your pen to work like you want

    • @TheGypsyChic1
      @TheGypsyChic1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, Christopher! That could be a reason, I will check into that. I haven't used a pigment ink in the Italian pen, thankfully! Just Diamine Deep Magenta and Iroshizuku Yama Budo. Someone mentioned magenta inks can cause nib creep. Thank you for the helpful suggestions!!

  • @kellywilson2147
    @kellywilson2147 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Stephanie! Your problem isn't necessarily with the pen; it could be the ink you're using, but in any case, you have what fountain pen aficionados affectionately, or not, refer to as "nib creep." In my experience, it happens mostly with red, magenta, and orange inks, and there's nothing you can do to prevent it from happening. Just shake your inks well, but not violently, to ensure everything mixes well. If you notice any globs, milky spots, or foam (not bubbles) in your bottle of ink, you might have mold or bacteria forming, and it's a loss. Also, some inks have a low surface tension and will creep out of your nib, especially if you have a wet writer, as there's not enough surface tension to keep it in place.
    Another school of thought is that it could be a problem with the nib. If there's a burr, nick, or scratch or the nib the ink will find its way there, and then you've got nib creep. I agree with both theories, but if you're experiencing the problem with one pen, then try several different inks, colors, and brands, out, and you should have your answer when you uncap your pen.

    • @kellywilson2147
      @kellywilson2147 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Karen Kunz I hope this explanation helps with your Nib Creep! Diamine Ancient Copper is notorious for Nib Creep. Just wipe it oft and move on.

    • @TheGypsyChic1
      @TheGypsyChic1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much, Kelly. I really appreciate your help. It is so weird, as I have over 50 pens and I've never had that happen once with any ink. I will try a good blue ink and see if that helps. But, I picked this pen for the magenta color and now I can't match the ink...boo. So much good information in your comment for others to read! Both of the inks I used (Yama Budo and Diamine Deep Magenta were new). I've stayed away from Monteverde inks because of reading so many people had issues with mold.
      I do suspect it is something with the nib. I will keep trying out new inks. Thanks again for the helpful comment!

    Too bad about the pen I clicked to find out more about, with the nib getting barnacles. I’ve heard it’s mainly certain colors prone to causing that regardless of maker, but I recently learned pen manufacturers who sell ink will optimize pens to work with their in house inks (makes sense, because why would they purchase inks to experiment with instead of using what they keep on hand anyway? People can cuss them for being out to get consumers, but to me it just sounds reasonable…). If the pen manufacturer sells ink, you might try their brand and see if helps. Beautiful collection.
