Love my Pakistan Mulberry after 3 years from itty bitty stick to huge tree over 6 feet tall and loaded. Plenty for us and plenty for the birds. (Mesa, AZ Zone 9B)

Man I’m wayyyyy late to the party but I finally made it! I recently started building something similar, just smaller. I’m in palmetto just south of Tampa, and only on 2 acres. Looking forward to hearing/learning about your journey. Thank you for you time and advice. You guys are doing God’s work! Have a blessed day! Everyday;)
My wife and I here in Indiana just recently discovered your channel and absolutely love it. Our almost an acre lot here 1/3 hollow and a lot of the rest with some steep slopes so a conventional garden is difficult. Your container growing methods are a very welcome option. God bless as you create your new homestead in FL. I lived there for about 7-1/2 years after my Dad retired. First near Orlando then in Melbourne while in college. It takes a little adjusting to the growing season, but one can certainly grow plants of all sorts there!
I just discovered your channel about a month or so ago. I have wanted a garden for years. I finally started one this year. We can’t get enough of your videos. Extremely educational for a first time gardener like myself. So happy to be a subscriber. Please continue the amazing content.
Years ago we had a mulberry tree and it would stay full of fruit and we eat mulberries until they ran out of our ears. It's a very healthy fruit as well as tasty. I absolutely love the music you play while working, I sure would like to know who this artist is. Thanks for sharing.
I never could understand my Mother. We had 2 mulberry trees but they were "fruitless" because she said, "Fruit trees are messy". LOL after all these years I'm finally on my own land and planting. What's funny is, I collected 17 mulberry trees! I plan to have goats and use the leaves for fodder. Thanks to another commenter who mentioned cutting low and keeping them shrubby. Might be the ticket, also easier to cover/net for birds and squirrel marauders. Thanks for the careful and thorough video!
Years ago a storm-damaged elm tree was replaced by a bird planted mulberry in the back yard...but for the past three years the birds "hit" the tree before the berries ripen so no cobbler for me!LOL God bless them for the tree because it is growing beautifully. And maybe when it's fifty feet tall I'll finally get a share of the fruit. Thanks for sharing your homestead tips and builds...and thank Nancy for the great videos! God bless and good eats!
Thanks for all the information y'all are putting out. My grandparents raised and grew their own food I wish I would've payed more attention and asked questions when they were here. I'm just starting on this journey to trying to become more self-sufficient. I'm in Lakeland what part of Florida are y'all in?
I got foot-tall cuttings from a friend in December. Now, in late October, each cutting is over 5 feet tall and is giving berries. The variety is Thai Dwarf and I live in South/Central Florida.
Love the music for this!!! Beautiful, relaxing. I had a mulberry tree growing up and yes mulberry cobbler is really good. Try Splitting a ripe cantaloupe and a half cleaning it out putting homemade vanilla ice cream and topping it with mulberries are the best sisters ever on a hot summer evening
Mulberrys are invasive in my neck of the woods. But I don't know the name other than mulberry. So, I'm not knocking what you say about mulberry because I respect and love your show. So I will listen diligently to what you have to say. They do make great firewood in my area and very easy to split. Drying time a year.
Love your videos. I do want to say that from what I've read, the Pakistani mulberries are not staining like the other black mulberries. I've looked it up on multiple nursery sites.
GOD BLESS!!! I thank Hollis for all the detail work you put into your builds. I really appreciate your plans for the containers and all. Looking forward to more recipes for all the fresh garden harvests.
We had a mulberry tree growing up, we ran around in summer bare footed. Under that tree we would eat from that tree, the bottom of our feet would be purple. Good memories.
Thanks for the vid. Looks like you haven't gotten to the 2 part of this video yet. Quick question. Do you think on the next video you can explain how do you re-fertilize established plants?
I had a mulberry tree growing in our backyard when I was younger somehow seeded naturally in the yard and we didnt know what it was until it began to fruit years later but we had so many birds around they would pick it clean before the fruit could mature nice enough to pick, the few we did get off the tree were nice very odd that it managed to grow im from North Texas in Fort Worth with alot of clay sandy dirt funny thing was my mom always told me to mow it down and I never did then it got bigger and she told me to cut it down again I didnt and come to find out it was mulberry her favorite fruit tree she was pretty happy. Great video by the way.
GOOD JOB AT PLANTING YOUR MULBERRY TREE 🌳🌳🌳 I GREW UP EATING MULBERRIES!!!🤓👍🏽 I TOO PLAN ON BUYING A GOOD SWEET TREE AND PLANT IT IN MY YARD!!!...I LIKE HOW YOU FED THE SOIL IN GROUND BEFORE DROPPING THE TREE IN THE HOLE... Greetings Nelson from Florida. We used to live In Newport News. I had several friends that lived in Gloucester. One of my best friends (Rob Rader) had a farm there. He helped me and Nancy with some of our chicken and turkey skill set before we moved down to Florida.
How is the mulberry doing? I just purchased the Pakistan Mulberry for my backyard. I was curious to see how yours is being that yours look like you planted a stick. I am looking forward to ours. Hope yours is doing well.
Great video. That tree is going to be happy once those roots start getting established and eating up all the nutrients from the soil and ext. that was added when planting.

Lots of steps you took to plant that tree. Hopefully you will reap the fruits ofyour work and patience as it grow. May the Lord bless you in His abundance.
It’s about 15’ high now. Still haven’t got any berries. Almost last spring when we had a hard freeze in April. Had to cut it back a lot to remove freeze damaged limbs. We stopped doing any videos on our fruit trees due to a lack of internet from our subscribers. 😢

I think you are going to enjoy this one. We have a tree that is maybe five years old. Just really started bearing the last few years. It also makes excellent jam. I used the low sugar Sure Jell (pink box) and used the recipe for black berries. Melody B in NC

I grew up with a mulberry tree in my yard! It was an awesome tree with delicious fruit. For us though, it was over a sidewalk and street that my parents parked their cars on...and if there’s one thing that loves mulberries more than people it’s birds. 😬😂
Woud love to see how all the other shrubs/trees you've planted so far, when you get the time one day? How about putting the month and the year on you plant sign, as time goes by so fast? Just planted three black mulberry. We have two others in the yard three years old. Not sure what kind. Iv gotten two berries off the tree so far. Yum... Birds eat them before they are even ripe. I'd like to get one Pakistan mulberry. Largest of mulberry. Some day I might get a handful.

Growing up we always had a mulberry tree. No matter where we lived. They're good, but every summer we had purple feet. The berries would drop off and end up in the grass, right where we played.........and in the summer we were barefoot alot. :-)
If the tree grows to 50ft it won’t be very productive or easy to harvest. Suggest regular pruning to an ‘open vase‘ structure with all limbs within reasonable reach for maximum production and easy harvesting. Also, good idea to mulch the base of the tree for a lot of reasons. There are some good videos on TH-cam for this! :)
I agree. I will be keeping the tree pruned to a maximum of 8 feet. This winter just before spring, I will be heavy handed pruning the tree back. This is the first year it has grown big enough to prune. When I get older and can’t work like I am now, then I will let it go and let it become a shade tree
Mr. Hollis and Mrs. Nancy, I could not tell from the video, can you tell me where you got that lime? What is the brand? Thank you both for your superb videos which Ive always loved.
Also, we have been wanting to grow a Mulberry bush/ tree, but don't know what kind to look for?? And where to purchase it, or even what to ask for as far as it being a tree or bush?
i'm curious of all of that stuff is really necessary in the hole... i planted a mullberry a few months back (tree of my childhood, cant wait) and just used good soil, didn't know to add a bunch of things.
Curiosity always improves my garden skill set. Take two identical trees of the same size. Plant one in the soil with no amending. Plant the other one with the amendments I demonstrated in this video. At the end of a full year take a look at a comparison. You will be surprised 👍
I planted one last week and it is putting out new growth, it is a Pakistan also. I have on very large tree already in my yard but is just your regular mulberry. I found it in one of my flower pots in the winter and left it there, had no idea what it was, in the spring was still alive so planted, still no idea what it was. I guess a bird dropped a seed but don't know where another is anywhere around me. It has grown quite large, I like but really don't eat them, I planted for the critters, who will eat all before they even turn black. Good luck with the birds, cause you are going to need it and yes it will stain anything it get on.
@@HollisNancysHomestead I hope you get some fruit this year, im not sure exactly how old mine was When I planted it. Was not as big as yours,, maybe 1 1/2 ft to 2ft? Ha I have poor clay soil too, the pH is like 8 Alkaline.. very hard to grow here in Nevada. If the sun doesn't bake it the soil pH will kill it. My mulberry is dormant but still alive :)
Hollis, Nancy we bought property on Lake Ontario (Niagara County NY) and has 3 mature Mulberry trees that produce plenty of mulberries. Do you have any vids about harvesting them and recipes? I just love the Mulberries and its usually a race to get them before the birds & the Squirrels do.

Also, we have been wanting to grow a Mulberry bush/ tree, but don't know what kind to look for?? And where to purchase it, or even what to ask for as far as it being a tree or bush?
Won’t the roots want to stay in that amended soil? What is going to encourage them out farther?
do we need to prune these trees?
No Only If they have no room or the branches etc have been damaged or died other than that no just keep feeding it well .
i'm curious of all of that stuff is really necessary in the hole... i planted a mullberry a few months back (tree of my childhood, cant wait) and just used good soil, didn't know to add a bunch of things.
Thanks, worst case our chickens will love them. LOL
After a year how does it look now?, I just planted mine this year( superberry,) it's doubled almost tripled in size since I planted it in may.
Ours is 3 years old now. Still have not got any fruit. It is about 12 feet high. I plan to prune it down this winter
@@HollisNancysHomestead I am in Ocala. Where are you located?
@@HollisNancysHomestead I hope you get some fruit this year, im not sure exactly how old mine was
When I planted it.
Can you prune it to be a bush
Hollis, Nancy we bought property on Lake Ontario (Niagara County NY) and has 3 mature Mulberry trees that produce plenty of mulberries. Do you have any vids about harvesting them and recipes? I just love the Mulberries and its usually a race to get them before the birds & the Squirrels do.
We don’t have any recipe videos yet but we plan to as soon as our mulberry tree matures. We still got another year to go
Hollis & Nancy's Homestead thanks so much for your reply. Blessings to you. ~M~
Do a current farm tour
We will once we got everything working. It's pretty amazing.
There seems to be quite a few trees around you that love the soil quality, because you have a forest.
We have pine that is easy to grow, but it is also easy to fall, great for firewood.
Can you please tell me what online vendor you found to buy this tree from? Thank You. God Bless and stay healthy.
Hawkins nursery plant city
You can also get dwarf mulberries, which are a much more reasonable size.
Sounds good. Maybe next time.
What part of Florida are you in? I live in Ocala.
