My WORST Truck Camping Experience So Far

  • This was definitely the hardest truck camping video I've filmed so far. Extreme heat and mosquitoes. Trapped in the back of the truck. Why? Because I wasn't prepared... Lessons learned :)
    Thank you for watching!

Also, try spraying your clothes & Interior of your truck with Permethrin. It repels a lot of insects, spiders and ticks. I spray my bedding and carpet of my truck camper every 4-6 weeks. A small usb fan can help to create an "air curtain" to keep bugs out too.

    • @thealaskanbuddha
      @thealaskanbuddha ปีที่แล้ว +2

I live in Alaska and that is EXACTLY what I do to my truck camper, cab, hammocks, camp chairs, gear and clothing.
Permethrin doesn't have a smell and it lasts for weeks.
We call it the magical mosquitoe barrier.
I even bought some cheap, lightweight, breathable workout hoodies and use them while on hikes. They make a potentially buggy hike into absolute bliss.

I can give you a homemade insect repellent, it works great for me here in the Florida Panhandle. Use it on you skin, around you interior of your truck and even outside. Odor goes away quickly.
    3 cups Epson Salts
    32 oz.STALE beer
1 large bottle of blue mouthwash.
Mix it up totally and put it in a spray bottle for a great insect free camp.

Hi Linnie. Wow that was bad. The moment right before you opened the tailgate in the morning - I could see the swarm! I am a little surprised you don't have a Thermacell. I bought the backpacker edition after I saw Jim Baird use one on one of his camping trips. I have to tell you, it's was an absolute game-changer for me. I bring it with me on every trip and it works insanely well. You could just set it on the ground by your tire. If you've never seen/heard of one before, I would check it out! And don't ever second-guess posting a video like this. The reason I subscribed is because you are genuine and authentic. Regardless of the negative comments you may get, don't ever forget there are people like me watching who enjoy what you're doing. Keep up the great work!

Always be prepared for the outdoors, keep your truck stocked for every occasion. When you're not camping, your stockpiling supplies, you become a warehouse for outdoor adventures . Always ahead of the game. What you do when you're not camping will determine the outcome of your adventures. Knowing your ready for anything will bring you inner happiness, a brilliant attitude,a very blessed experience. Acting like a pro, (like) I've done this before. Fifty years of passion coming out for you, for the great outdoors. Be prepared for hostile wildlife and stupid human's. I felt for you, had some awfully rotten experience's myself, even being ready (sometimes it's not in your control). We laughed about it later.😊

So I have used various methods over the years , to stop mozies biting me , from nets to insect repellent , to fans etc , the best is sweeping fan , they donot get a chance to fly straight to you , due to changing fast air flow .
I have used insect 100% deet , so strong it will start to melt the watch strap on a casio , and it works compeltly for 4 hrs , then they start biting again .
Fan only works when you have power or can afford power , then its nets & donot touch net , as they will bite thru the net .

Mosquitoes, those wonderful little friends whose existence you don't even remember until summer comes.
I live in a cottage and those nights when the mosquitoes make an invasion all the way inside, I (try to) sleep with a mosquito net on my head. Some sleeping bags (e.g. Carinthia Tropen) have a built-in mosquito net, but they are quite hot for the summer heat. So I've usually just used the Carinthia sleeping bag liner and a separate mosquito net.
If you want to try a non-toxic mosquito repellent, Wilmas Nordic Summer (Wilma Naturprodukter) is quite good. It only contains tar oil and beeswax.
I think you did well under those conditions and I hope you have a better journey next time! 👋🇫🇮

Maybe someone already said this, I'm too lazy to read all the comments. But during bug season, I always eat as much garlic as I can, it helps some. And I don't use any soap that has perfumes as insects are attracted to flowers. I use citronella based soap or one that has no additives and a tiki torch to keep insects away.

AC will take a lot of power , so look for a osicilating electric fan , you can get some that run off re-charge drill batteries , Ryobi , also always have long sleeve shirts & long trousers , so mozzies cannot bite arms & legs , so if you canget a fan that swings in different directions over you , it makes it almost impossible for the mozzies to fly to you as the wind direction is always sweeping thru different directions .

It was kind of expensive and you have to buy fuel cells and little mats to keep it working, but it did work! No mosquitoes in the camper shell with me! Use a sleeping bag liner. Not only can it add some additional warmth to an existing bag as part of a system, but it can be used alone as a very light bag. I use mine in my hammock during the summer because I need to have something, but it is very light, bag shaped and works perfectly for something lite but will cover you as much as you need.
