What I really liked about the X-Wing pursuit was Jude Law being careful to tell the kids to just shoot to keep the fighters at bay and the X-Wing pilots only trying to disable the ship once they realized there were kids on board.
I do like that this confirms that At Attin basically still believes themselves to belong to the Old Republic, and with that possibly the *really* Old Republic, so from around the Kotor times. Because if it has faded into myth, that takes time, that takes hundreds or thousands of years and considering that the owlcat-lady pulled out a *physical* map which is more or less unheard of in Star Wars where everything is on either computers or can be shown with holograms does point to that this planet has been "lost" for a good long while. So what i do like right now the most is the mystery behind the planet and what it even is, what is the suburban culture even trying to do there? So far, its been fun for me to watch. Also, i do like Jude Law so far, its exactly what i expected of him.
Love how Andor kept the tension and anxiety of daily Rebel life spilling out every moment. Show is tense thru and thru. Skeleton Crew is a pallet cleanser. Fun and enjoyable with a good sense of adventure.
It's a fun adventure story, which is exactly what Star Wars is supposed to be about at its core. As an adult I love Andor, but this show right here is what I would adored as a kid.
The grownup Star Wars fan in me (I'm in my 40s and my kids are in grade school) loves Andor but the child in me loves Skeleton Crew. An unexpected treat and I'm really enjoying it. Like Lucas and Spielberg did a project together.
The kids in the show, while obviously kids and sheltered, are sooo much smarter than too many of The Resistance characters, Kaz especially. The showrunners of Skeleton Crew don't insult the intelligence of their audience, kids included, and I really appreciate that.
Correllia isn't "Space New Jersey". Think about it: it has ALL that vessel & vehicle manufacturing. Plus, it's a shit hole. Correllia is Space Detroit.
At Attin is a gated community. Someone locked down the entire planet to protect it from all of the "Bad Guys" outside that live on the wrong side of the tracks/hyperspace lane.
Oh he knows the name.... is response is always "I can't say" not "I don't know". His programming will not let him talk about anything relating to Atatinn
This is one of the best PG rated kids shows I have seen in a long time. It’s not meant to be complex or provoke deep thinking and I love it so far. To keep it PG I think would be hard.
I'm noticing a lot of parallels with A New Hope that are subtle and done really well. You noted how the first episode's opening felt strongly reminiscent of the ANH opening with a pirate spin. But we also have 1) kid from a boring planet who longs for adventure, 2) sneaking around on a space station, 3) a rescue of someone from a space station, 4) kid who wanted adventure learning to shoot at the ships pursuing them as they try to escape. Jude Law's character, in this comparison, somehow mixes Han Solo and Obi Wan managing to be the scoundrel and the "wise" mysterious mentor that the longing-for-more kid looks up to. But, really, he's just a failed captain, and his own thing entirely. And thats really what I've been impressed by. Skeleton Crew is doing these parallels that are all too common in Star Wars media but they don't get in the way of the plot and characters developing naturally or being their own thing. Additionally, these allusions help foster the meta-narrative of how these kids are living the dreams of real life kids. You know, those of us who played Jedi with our friends at school and longed to go on a space adventure like Luke Skywalker did.
Screen Crush does a translation of that scroll. The words that are able to be read really do mean something and talk about At Attin. I’m looking forward to hearing what else you might find from that.
Ok one I love how they gave us the size of the galaxy itself and second I want the reaction of the children of the past few decades they can’t just mention aldrean and just skip over it like that
Read a lot of theories about what’s really going on with At-Attin. But I really like the idea that The Supervisor is really just an AI that’s been fulfilling its mandate to keep the planet isolated for centuries despite the reason for that mandate being long gone.
I am thoroughly enjoying the show, I love the small details they put in the background. And they have a good balance and handle on the show that the acolyte didn’t have. It’s really nice
2:30 TV used to be like this when streaming and binge watching was not a thing...or a glint of a star of a thing. But good on you for holding out on a major review of it until the entire series is played out. Too many jump to complain...complain once it is played out. Complaining for click baits because one needs their millions of followers to here how it isn't the prequels..I am not saying the show is great or bad. But watching TH-camrs who have their theories complaining for clicks is worse. Love this channel as it doesn't do the same. And is entertaining and informative, and a good chat on Star Wars.
I've liked this show so far. You hit some good points. I do hope the story takes off in the next episode a little more then it has gone. With a major plot drop or something really cool that sets the show apart in the lore that makes it its own.
Maturity is The development of what society arbitrarly values . Girls do hit puberty sooner. But more connections doesn't mean better. Plus girls lose Neuroplasticity sooner thaen boys
I feel like I've been on the opposite end of the wider fandom with the recent Star Wars shows. Everyone hated The Acolyte and though it clearly had issues (especially the way the twins were handled), I thought it was fine overall. Everyone loves Skeleton Crew and I think it's just...okay. Not bad at all but I really don't get what's so interesting about it - and I grew up with the Goonies and Amblin media. I guess I'm just more centrist than everyone else has been lately. On that note though, I can't wait for the next season of Andor. That's been the only unquestionably good show.
Kh'ymm and her "lab" seem more of a callback to The Dark Crystal (which makes sense, because 80s) than to Harry Potter. The scene is a lot like when Jen met Aughra in her orrery. Think I'm going to refer to Kh'ymm as Owl-ghra from here on out. She also has similarities to Archimedes in The Sword in the Stone.
As a parent of a 13 year old girl, you are dead on about not babying kids, especially now. We are all being dumbed down constantly by outside sources and we get to choose what goes into our kid's mind for a couple of years. You are a dang good father!
I feel like this story is going to explain how Palpatine bankrolls his future massive fleet. In a trailer we see Silvo warning At Attan about an incoming pirate attack. I believe the first order will be the ones who show up to save the day and not the New Republic.
Yeah maybe don’t push chili peppers on your young daughter. Once she grows up and finds out info was out there about what they did to young girls at the time you had her listen to it she will def think you’re a weirdo
I, personally want to see more about the parents. Wims Dad seems to be struggling with something. (maybe has to do with his wife) you could see the other parents talking about how they would run away and get found. but Wims dad seems to be much more bothered by all this which im very excited to see pan out.
Notice that At-Attin is likely based on how GenX pronounces AT-AT, and how it's an old planet that nearly everyone doesn't even know exists. I see what you're doing Skeleton Crew!
So here’s a thought: KB’s mom in this episode says she has urgent medical needs. There is also a hint that she might be force sensitive. What if who or whatever is running At Attin knows KB has that sensitivity and the “urgent medical needs” were just what her parents were told, but the truth is that the treatment for those supposed “needs” are actually just suppressing her force sensitivity somehow. And now that she’s not getting that treatment, it’s starting to manifest.
my biggest revelation is that blowing up planets could be something that happened in their history, that maybe why tarkin didn't hesitate because it wasn't unprecedented.
@@NathanWeeks it wasn't inconceivable to han solo, that a planet could be blasted to bits just unlikely. "The entire Starfleet couldn't destroy a whole planet. It'd take a thousand ships, with more firepower than..." maybe this sort of thing happened before with huge coordinated attacks. it never occurred to me that it could have happened before in the many thousands of years of their history.
What Dreams May Come is an excellent movie that was crippled by not great directing ... Great Acting, Great Concept, Exceptional Cinematography, Good Writing.
Something was really wrong since Episode 1, then this episode gave even the administrator some pause. Do you think the NR sent those funds they had on the transport (episode 1) in a controlled trip, and it was just returning from delivering new materials to mint credits? The people on that planet haven't heard of the wars from CW to the Galactic Civil War. This is harsh.
I didn't like the first episode, and just thought the second episode was okay, but I really felt like Jude Law brought it together and made this episode enjoyable. Now I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.
I like this show so far. Honestly, I had a hard time with the Owl lady seeing the distinction between puppet and CGI. Might have been all CGI for all I know. I gotta be real, I'm way more into this than The Acolyte.
Hey man, strange question: I see that chin mounting plate (i think) on your helmet in the back. Do you run a moto-vlog channel or something by any chance?
I guess the same way Wim and Neel knew about Jedi and Sith - holobooks. But I'm not sure. Seems like if they knew about x-wings, they would have also known about the destruction of Alderaan.
It was possibly a name that occurred to her because the wings look like an X. It does raise the question regarding the letter starfighters in a universe where the primary alphabet is in Aurebesh. I'm looking at the Aurebesh symbols and the only ones that resemble Rebel/New Republic starfighters are krill (K), which resembles a U-Wing, and xesh (X), which looks like an A-Wing. Where do the letter starfighters get their names from?
I gotta disagree about the idea of these TV seasons "milking it" for being similar to a 4 hour movie. Yes, sometimes the pacing is weird, but I wouldn't say they are twice as long as they should be. "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy is basically a 9 or 11 hour movie. The idea of conforming audiovisual media to a certain standardized time length is a disservice to art. The 2-hour movie being profitable for theatres /practical for movie-goers - that is not necessarily an indication of good art.
Honestly to me.. if you know the original Disney Peter Pan cartoon movie... this strikes me as an 8 hour live action version of Disney Peter Pan. They found another way to repackage their same old stories... put a Star Wars skin on it. It's not good. Not in the least. Just one more show closer to the end of Disney Star Wars.
Pirates, Adventure in Space, fun characters and an intriguing mystery, this show is ticking all my boxes ;3
Same homie

Jon Watts confirmed that they're not talking about the Kotor Republic but rather the prequels era republic
@smookypooch I see, thanks for clearing that Up! :)

Their dialogue actually sounds like things children would say and do. I appreciate that too.
I truly, truly love this show. I haven't felt this way since Andor.
Congrats!!!

I feel SM-33 knows where At-Attin is, he just doesnt know that name for it.
It is interesting that he gives the same answer word-for-word both times he’s asked about it.
Good point. I mean, he got there on the ship somehow, and we’ve seen he’s perfectly capable of lying. He definitely knows more than he’s letting on.
Oh he knows the name.... is response is always "I can't say" not "I don't know". His programming will not let him talk about anything relating to Atatinn
The tone is perfect. So charming. Jude Law is perfect for Star Wars. The show so far has been delightful.

The scene in the observatory and meeting Kim reminded me of the movie The Dark Crystal and Augra's observatory.
OMG! I couldn’t put my finger on it! But you’re ABSOLUTELY right!!!
"Yeah, this is Star Wars, child soldiers, war crimes. Let's do it!" 😂 nailed it
The reason they do these short bursts eps are trying out different Directors and staff to see who can do 'Star Wars' for feature length.
We already have Tony Gilroy who else are they looking for
Somebody who actually wants to focus on Star Wars for the rest of their career.
@@douglaswright4019 I don't think they're gonna find anyone that is talented but also that stupid.

can't picture black kid's father as an "Uncle Owen"

Each episodes concludes the last arc and statrs a new one.
Episode 3 ends the pirate den arc and starts the escape the cops arc.
Hey now! This show is a ton of fun. I had zero expectations, so maybe that's adding to my enjoyment.
Ryan from screeencrush did an excellent job of translating the aurabesh on the old map.

I think Judes character is a order 66 survivor. Maybe a padwan or a very young jedi at the time. He hid among pirates to avoid the empire
What there was a civilization so isolated they were unaware of larger universe

There were multiple Sith wars and even Republic internal wars, not to mention Sith force draining planets a few times
