Have a 38 german helmet my dad liberated in sicily plus his british helmet he had a wealth of stories from WW2 which he never really mentioned till i was in the forces , we would talk endlessly on the subject once he knew i could appreciate the value of comradeship , honour , loyalty and the value of service to your country , hes been gone many years but i still remember these amazing tales , not always about the action , and he seen plenty , 51st highland div veteran went accross the desert , sicily and italy , didnt get brought back for normandy but continued up through italy attached to the Australians, served in palestine post war as well ,😊 2 most famous engagements he was in were alamein and monte cassino , made my efforts in ulster seem like a holiday , they were known as the greatest generation for good reason , had 2 uncles also served in WW2 these men were my heroes growing up , and still are
You’re not wrong - they were the greatest generation! What an extraordinary life your father led - you must be very proud. Thank you for sharing his story…
we need programs like this to keep our identity as a nation alive , I have always had a keen interest in both world wars mainly ww2 my dad served in the second & like Bruces friend was at Dunkirk (BEF) and seen first hand the horrors of those who frightened beyond belief , my mum was German she was living in the Rhur district which as you know was targeted heavily she has seen both horrors , humility & suffered much so I love listening & reading stories of the everyman who lived & served on both sides , program like yours is in my opinion vital to keep history alive therefore I thank you
Love your blogs Bruce I used to read the victor comic used to get it every week in the village shop in Yorkshire. I live in Australia and I'm 74 . Keep up with the great blogs
Thanks for your support Geoffrey - it means a lot to us. Make sure you spread the word of what we’re doing! I hope the weather is better there than in the UK!
Just came across this video, and when I saw Bruce Crompton I was straight in there, Love this guy, combat dealers was a drug to me, I knew he had a bad accident from parachuting but didn’t realise it was as serious as he explained, keep your eyes on him Sue he’s just has expensive has a tank, mind you he’s built like one, keep doing what you’re doing Bruce 👍👍❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍
How have I missed this ? Absolute magic ! Great you still have that first item and helmet. Magic ! Dad was RA and at Dunkirk. Still had his respirator 'bag' worn on the chest, stained with salt water half way up where he waded out to wait for a boat. Haversack/Bag now in local museum.
Absolutely loved the prog and so good to see Bruce back in action, glad you are recovered and as enthusiastic and interesting as ever! Looking forward to the next episode and now off to visit the website. Thank you!
Had a similar story on a German ww1 helmet , 30 years ago . I was working in an old ladies back garden down in Faversham Kent and on her back door step sat a this ww1 German helmet with some dried up flowers , me and the old lady got chatting she told her dad had brought it back from the war , after a cup of tea and some custard creams she offered it to me , I still have the hat . Thanks Bruce for your stories.
Fan-flipping-tastic I didn't know about the Avro museum at Woodford and I'll be visiting that as it only an hour away.... Hope I can get to the USAAF museum at Parham too when I'm over in Suffolk next...

Would love to see a new season of "Combat Dealers". As an amateur collector I've learned invaluable lessons from Bruce and his team. Well done!

Martin Abdilla from Malta
One day we will definitely get out to Malta! Glad you like our content...
Love Bruce. Excellent. But if I can be pedantic. the first version WW2 German helmet is an M35, not 38. There was 35, then 40, then 42.
You’re quite right - the M38 was the first German paratroopers helmet. Good spot.
