This is a story about perspective. This is Brisa’s story.
When the world went into lockdown in 2020, Brisa Hennessy found herself isolated in one of the most remote places on the planet - on the tiny remote island of Namotu in Fiji with her parents and a small group of local Fijians. Through facing her fears surfing huge Cloudbreak she was able to reflect on her sense of self, who she is and what her purpose is on this planet.

Hi Brisa. Half an hour ago i vaguely knew who you were. I watched your heat online today at Rotto and thought....this chick rips...why are we not hearing more about her. Just watched this clip, and now i have a new surfer to get behind on the world tour. Loved this!! Thanks for sharing you. I especially loved the light you shone on the Fijian legends. I lived at Waidroka for 6 months and formed an intimate relationship with Frigates, similar to Cloudy so it was so nice to see these amazing people sharing the spotlight with you. But for real, those Cloudbreak waves you threw yourself into. I was completely in awe. It might not happen overnight but those days you've spent on those wild ocean swells are going to be your foundation for success. All the best. Will be cheering you on! Paul. Yew!

great video, i surfed tavarua in '86, cloudbreak was great but the crown jewel is restaurants, it's a well-groomed machine, the result of swell bending around something like 240 degrees from the source direction, a dream wave that's shown several times here.

When do we get some major female competitions at Cloudbreak? They got the talent for it. Update: Oh, I guess they have had some actually. Sad how little this gets advertised though.

@@-3590- - oh, good to hear. I think the women tend to get cut short in surfing, which I think is really a historical artifact - used to be a bigger skill gap. At most breaks, could be head to head all in one pool - then have a 'heavy reef' tour for waves like pipe, chopes, where the women could still opt-in if they wanted to be part of that tour. Then the main WCT goes to a single, mixed-sex competitions.

Money for the exotic locations, that only few have surfed.
Time to travel.
And the huge amount of support she gets from her family.
I’m watching this and just dying on the inside…I had to fight so hard against negative stigma that surfers still get. Work hard to afford a board, like a lot of other surfers. And we work to live and surf. Having to accept the fact that we’ll be surfing our local spot for the rest of our life. Never getting the chance to experience these beautiful waves, and not getting enough time or money to pull off a trip like that either…
