I'm a CO native, lived there for 40 years both on the front range and western slope. Now I live near Port Townsend, WA and we absolutely love it here. I'm not sure about the notion that CO has 4 distinct seasons - maybe on the front range you could say that - but in my experience it's pretty much summer then winter. Though I lived at high elevation for many years, so that accounts for the difference. I'm really excited to have a proper spring with a rolling presentation of flowers from February that continues clear through until summer, which is really gorgeous. And I can actually dig a hole in the soil here without getting an impact fracture, things grow (idiot proof gardening really) instead of a never-ending cycle of burn/freeze and die. The drought, sun and high altitude are unrelenting in CO and it gets old after a while. I think I lived my whole life with a perpetual sinus infection, which disappeared when I moved to WA and now I can actually breathe. Like really breathe. AND there are smells, wonderful smells of the forest and the ocean. In CO it's so dry, we don't really smell anything. That doesn't seem like much, but when you realize you're living life without one of your six senses it becomes noticeable. Yes, there's rain but that's what makes everything so green and beautiful. Coming from drought-ravaged western slope, I can really value the rain and what it brings. Life near on the oceans AND the mountains of the Olympic Peninsula is really fabulous, especially getting to do winter sports without having to come home to shoveling snow. The skiing, yeah . . . it's not as good as CO and I miss that beautiful powder sometimes (shout out Telluride!). I'll always love CO, but I've found life to be a richer tapestry of options here in WA life here is pretty sweet.

Thank you so much for your in-depth commentary - we are actively pursuing relocating from the front range to Puget Sound. Drought, year round fire season and the stark reality of the recent Marshall Fire have solidified our decision - as skin cancer survivors we’re actually looking forward to all that overcast weather and being able to go walking/hiking without burning! Again, thank you for taking the time to write out your own comparison - it’s helped us feel even more certain about our decision. Happy Spring! (I too look forward to planting in real soil and not rocky bits or clay!!!) Plus we’ve been fans of Seattle’s sports teams forever: Go Mariners/Seahawks/Kraken, woo!

I live in the Seattle area of Washington and there’s not much for younger people to do here. I am bored out of my mind. I had way more fun in Colorado and enjoyed Denver’s bar scene.

I prefer Washington! Lived all over the world but have best childhood memories from my time living in Bremerton from age 3 to 7 in the 1990s. I have visited both places several times over the past five years and Coloradoans seem to be more stuck up. Don't get me started in that "Native Colorado" vehicle sticker lol

From federal way washington. I say im from Seattle too because its easier. Im in colorado springs now. I like washington a little better but colorado’s weather is so much better. Not sure what i want to do once i leave the military. Maybe i will go back to washington but the weather might depress me again lol. Yes washington gets cloudy to the point you forget the sky is actually blue. Washington is why more urbanized if your a city person but the mountains are right there for the naturist. Of course im talking about the west of the mountains. Trust me, i was born in Spokane, please don’t live there.

Great assessment. I’m currently living in Seattle, but considering moving to Denver. I’m pushing forty and have a small family, and Colorado does seems a bit more family friendly. Love WA and the PNW though.

Either way, they're still the best states in the union I'd say.

Both are extremely identical. It's a win either way. I absolutely loved colorado when I lived their. For me it comes down to the weather. While I like an occasional rain. It just makes me tired and want to sleep. 9 months of that would drive me crazy eventually. More nice days like colorado has and im going to get out and go do stuff. Lakes, mountains, parks and recs. Themeparks, go into Denver to checkout stuff. And much more.

I live in Denver Co rn and i miss seattle soooo much! Seattle hands down! In Seattle its a City in the forest! Its so beautful! Denver is like AZ mixed with WA. In WA you can wake up walk out side see a beautiful forest and take a deep breath and just erase all the stress

I haven’t finished the video yet, but….I knew you were from WA the moment I hit play. Anyway, humidity & wind are HUGE factors. Weather can change year to year in Colorado. In WA, it’s been leaving that milder window & heading into more extreme weather. I’d say it’s now normal to hit the 90’s in summer (at least twice). I do LOVE a WA summer over a Colorado summer b/c I hate anything over 90!
I enjoyed the rain in Colorado. I got sick of the sun, at elevation it’s a lot brighter and wears you out faster. SPF is a must, even if you tan well. Even if you are blessed with melanin. That sun will beat you to a pulp.
The humidity in WA makes that 40 degrees feel very cold. In Colorado, a sunny & dry 50-60 degree winter day is perfect for outdoor activities.
I hate that Colorado doesn’t seem to have many good lakes or places for swimming. WA (Seattle) has a lot of swimming options, but you might need a wet suit.
Hyperthermia is a risk in CO, Hypothermia is a risk in WA.
I prefer the grocery stores in Colorado over WA. That’s just me. I love Natural Grocers & King Soopers. Oh, and I love Mexican food…so Colorado wins there too. Oh, and the Rocky Mountains are way more exciting to me than the Cascades. Again, that’s just me.

    • @krisconrad1051
      @krisconrad1051 ปีที่แล้ว

Actually while the rockies are higher in elevation, the Cascades are more prominent. Prominence is height compared to surrounding terrain, while elevation is height compared to sea level. Mount Rainier is the 3rd most prominent peak on the continent.

@faz caz my Point is prominence is a better indicator of size. The Cascades look taller than the rockies, even though the rockies are higher elevation. Their is a reason they call the North Cascades the American Alps

Colorado with all of the wildfires, lack of rain and just barren treeless landscape has gotten to me and I'm over it!
The food scene is NON existent!
No water which to my Native Family means the land is actually Cursed when the water stops flowing!
Yeah we have sunny days but the sun is so intense and does so much damage! The plants cant survive here!
