The bookstore (which I forgot to include the name of 😩) is E Shaver Booksellers on Bull Street in Savannah, and absolutely is with a visit if you find yourself in the neighborhood, even if it’s just to read the employee recs, and let the cats!!
I was about to comment that you found E Shaver ❤ my aunt worked there for about 20 years, so I always got wonderful books for my birthday and Christmas. The original owners have died, but the place has maintained its charm (and now has resident cats!). My favorite used bookstore, the Book Lady, is also in Savannah.
One of my favorite memories from theatre is when a set piece was going to fall over and an actor noticed and casually walked over mid-dialog like it was part of his blocking and just leaned against it. It looked natural and part of the scene. The scene ended minutes later but it was perfect and saved me, the stage hand, from running out of the wings to stop it from falling. I loved him in that moment. I later thanked him for the scene. I'm glad to know even professionals have minor issues. I'm glad no one was hurt.
I saw the show last night in Green Bay Wisconsin. I was so thrilled to see you and Phil do your hoop and lamplighter acts. It was such a thrill to see the show! Loved it!!! Have a really wonderful Christmas. Thanks for an entertaining evening. ❤
Stage shenanigans do happen. One time my dad and I were in a pantomime together. He played the King and I was his princess. He forgot his line, and it wasn't something we could improv around. After what felt like 1 minute, but was probably just a couple of seconds, he heard the script prompt at the side stage. His line was... "I have an idea!" 😂. The whole theatre was howling with laughter
Two toned sweater could be fun But the irony that the one project that was supposed to be easy and drama free has something wrong with it is also quite something :D
Love that shirt you are wearing at 7:00, cute and subversive! And as a knitter myself I feel for you, I started knitting socks toe up, two at a time on circular needles so I can avoid as much math as possible! ❤❤
Having done theatre for many years, you will be surprised how many performers don't improvise when things don't quite happen the way it's supposed to. While a slight inconvenience for you, you worked around it and gave a highlight of the tour for people. xxxx Chookas, Happy Performing x
You said, "Would it be really weird to have a jumper that was . . . one color on the front and one color on the back?" My immediate response, "Not for you." I love your uniqueness.
Thanks for the story about your snag with the door prop! It's definitely the sign of a true professional that you were able to find the humor in the situation rather than getting stressed out about it, and that you more or less made it work regardless. As for what I'm working on, I've been on a sweater knitting kick lately, using some beginner-friendly free patterns from tincanknits over on Ravelry. Made a couple of pullovers, and am now working on the last sleeve of a cardigan. I don't do as much baking as I used to, but I might make pumpkin bread again soon; I made some for a Thanksgiving get-together last month, and remembered how much I enjoyed it. It's a variant of my banana bread recipe, and for the pumpkin I do a maple glaze with it.
Having been a costume designer for ten years when I was in my twenties I can totally relate to things that go wrong in live shows. Another great xmas vlog! Thank you
The joys of live theater! :) Like the time the supporting actor broke his wrist two days before opening (it was The Play That Goes Wrong, so it somehow... worked).
You guys climbing trees cracked me up. And that bookstore was the bomb! My vote is for front and back colors for the sweater. This whole vlog series is very entertaining. Can't wait for the next one!
Gotta love live shows! I just finished helping with our Community Theaters production of "Charlie Brown Christmas" and during one of the set changes I was still putting out one of the trees and the lights came on. I was stuck squatting behind the tree for the whole scene.
OK so I totally heard Dumbledores or possibly Dumbell Doors, and being a non-native speaker, I was so excited to find another hidden pun in Potter names... The second time I listened, you very clearly said Double Doors. Clever editing, maybe magic? ;-)
I’ve just finished baking round one! I make cookies and mail them to out of state family and give them to friends ,employees and service providers. Then I do another round to gift to family on Christmas Day. Chocolate chip, peppermint snaps, oatmeal, and double chocolate brownie cookies are what’s been made so far.
The book store with the cats looked so lovely! Would also spend hours in there if given the chance! Talking about pets - what happens to your little fur ball when you're on tour for so long?
This has been such a fun vlog! I really enjoy seeing independent bookstores and historical districts! Also it's always fun to hear some theater stories!
Hello Shannon, I would be happy to endorse any letter to Santa Claus and have him bring you the yarn you need and a bit more. You're videos are so fun and inspiring, you deserve more yard. :)
That's so kind and generous of you (and you probably already saw episode 5, but if you are reallly dedicated to the Santa yarn, you can virtually buy me a skein on my Ko-Fi account, but also... very much not necessary and no obligation whatsoever! 🧶)
I think a reversible jumper would be great and those colors are beautiful together, so go for it. Two for the effort of one.. it’s a bargain of a project!
Loved the tour of Savannah. If you haven't been to Arizona yet, if your work ever takes you there be sure to check out Navajo Rug weaving. I was born there and went back for a time and took a Navajo rug weaving class. Not for the faint of heart, very challenging. I bought every DVD and book out there to help me learn how. Very very challenging and bet you would love it.
Since you asked, I will tell you what I'm working on. My friend asked me to make a jar quilt for her. That is a quilt where the squares look like canning jars, and you can fill them with anything you like. She actually wanted it to look like canned food, so that's the type of fabric I got. Actually today is my last day of completing the squares, and after that I'll start putting them together. It's my first time working with a quilt that involves chain piecing. I found it to be very difficult. It just takes so much concentration to do the same thing over and over. However, the ones I did last look a lot better than the ones I did at the beginning, so I'm calling it good lol. My friend will really like the quilt and that's all that matters.
Glad there was not a huge mishap. I always get a loving giggle when I'm in the audience of a performance and notice something like that. I have only done one show and it was in middle school, but I remember the chaos of trying to get everything right. It's one of the benefits of live theater to see people being human and making errors that lends magic to it that you just can't get from recordings.
Loved the story about the door. Keep telling them. About Hooked, I'm a crocheter so I focused on that, I can see you liking Peter Pan. I especially think of the part in the cartoon where they sing, "I can fly."
Surprise knitting plans are the best type of knitting plans! I think they'll both look great whether you decide to add another color or keep it all the same. So glad to hear you enjoyed Savannah! I went there on vacation last year and absolutely loved it!! So historical and absolutely beautiful! Loved hearing the door story too - I'm sure the audience got a kick out of your quick thinking! Awesome job staying in character and rolling with the punches!! 💚
Thx fir the great mini-tour of the historic downtown of Savannah! Fun! Kudos to you for working through the door mishap with professional grace & humor, Shannon.👍💪❤️
"Historic Steps: Use at own risk" is a sign I feel we should have seen on the Casse-Cou steps in Vieux Quebec on my 8th grade trip in the mid 80s 😄 (Though I seem to recall crossing the street was more dangerous than the staircase...)
I wish I had realized sooner you were going to be so close by in Savannah! I was just telling my husband the show looked like so much fun and I bet our kid would love it! Glad you found that gem of a bookstore! There are some really magical places in Savannah and up and down the Georgia coast. If you can ever stay longer, there are some amazing tours including Black Savannah History Tours that are unforgettable. It’s finally cool enough weather here that I’ve started back on my crochet granny shrug project instead of much cooler hand sewing projects. Hope your sweater situation gets happily resolved soon! Happy holiday crafting!
Thank you for VLOG4 - I miss performing, but I don't miss the "oopsies" that can happen!! LOL As to what I'm working on ... firstly, I am currently participating in a vintage crochet challenge (courtesy of @JustVintageCrochet). And also Xmas baking (fruit mince pies, White Christmas, Xmas Coconut Ice, and Hedgehog Xmas Trees ... oh, and chocolate truffles, from the Xmas Trees offcuts [if my husband doesn't eat them all first]!) Enjoy the rest of the tour, travel, crafting, etc. - it's lovely to see someone who enjoys pretty much everything they do!!
Glad to hear the shows are going relatively smoothly. The original sweater pattern was two toned top and bottom. Front and back would also work for me. I always like to make a coconut cake and a vanilla wafer cake for the holidays. Merry Christmas.
Math!!! Ugh! ADHD and math are like a pair of mix-matched socks for me. Add in a craft that is supposed to relax me and I have a disaster on my hands. I have come to accept my limitations. How you accomplish all you do is simply amazing. Please let us know the next time you are in the states. I would love to come see you perform and bring you treasures from my gargantuan stash or bring you more yarn to finish your project. Ha Ha Savannah is amazing. I’m in North Carolina so not too terribly far. I’m going to have to go back to the beginning of your channel to get your back story. I’m a fairly new subscriber. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I really love when you share about your performances! Also, a jumper that's two different colors sounds so adorable that I immediately want to take inspiration from your idea and knit one for myself.
You have absolutely inspired me to make a crazy patchwork apron. The skirt section will go all the way round the back. This is to hind a costume underneath, to make an easy quick change. I don’t need it till July, so, I can go to town on embellishments. Everything is from my fabric and notion stash. It is already looking gorgeous. When I have finished it, may I send you a photo of it?
Handled like a pro! 🤩 I crocheted a beanie hat today! (Well, started last night but could only get the band done before bed.) Lovely hound's-tooth stitch pattern I found on Rich Textures Crochet's channel -- shout out to her for such a beautiful and easy to follow pattern! 🥰
When knitting fitted garments, the only thing that matters is gauge. Start with suggested weight of yarn and size of needle, then swatch. Adjust needle size as required and swatch again. The shaping in areas like arm hole, neckline etc have been engineered with the given gauge. Can't get around it. knitting is about process, and less about product. It's all good. Love your energy!!!
I am aware that gauge is important and that swatches are generally a good idea. However as I went over in Episode 1, the whole reason I picked this knit was that the swatch was NOT needed for this pattern!
Having knit and done theater for decades I can really emphasize with those problems that you have been having. It happens. I directed a play once where everything was supposed to go wrong and boy did we have fun with that. I just did a last minute sewing project for a play where half the cast and crew ended up sick. I made a moose head for a school mascot to wear. Totally winging it. Turned out great and I got it back after so I think I’m going to mount it on a plaque on my wall. Thanks for your videos. They bring me much joy to watch. I’m now recovering from my third bout of Covid and I’m catching up on my viewing. ❤❤❤ from another Canadian
I used to have a shirt that was one color in the front and another in the back, and I loved it. It was like having 2 shirts in one since it was reversible. I think that knitted top would be cool with the front and back different colors.
Oooo I vote for the two tone sweater! Also how frustrating with your yarn I've definitely been there. And I'm looking forward to seeing your show and the doors and remembering this story lol!
I just love these vlogs! The two-color jumper sounds like a great idea. We're baking thumb print and pfeffernusse cookies, my favorite. Hope each stop continues to be as wonderful as this one was.
Great story and you did the right thing to keep the story line going. Ref 2nd sweater, you could do the bottom half in the light beige and the top half in the blue (reverse of original sweater) and go w different colors for the original sweater. Then you wouldn't need to block the sample and do all kinds of math. Just a thought
Awww, that's amazing! Thank you!! 🥹🥹 (not me, over here, doubting that this silly story would actually entertain anyone, but including it anyways because I'm trying to be more relaxed and casual about filming)
@@ShannonMakes It's working! Just enjoy it. I agree that you shouldn't do something when you feel forced to do it cause your audience will pick that up.
Loved to hear about the behind the scenes snafu. I’m sure the audience figured out what was happening and was amused by it. Loved the video tour of Savannah as well. You guys rock.😊
I'm sewing my dress for work Christmas party in 3 days. I've been working on since mid November, it's taking much longer than I thought it would, especially fitting... Send positive thoughts please :) I'm curious to see the knitting that you're working on. It's starting to look great, so whichever way you decide will be lovely:)
I have been gathering all the bits and bobs for your Victorian knitting bag and have to say thrifting these treasures has been fun. You were so cool under pressure on stage I greatly admire that! Hope your Christmas tour goes well !
I think it's fantastic that you get out and explore the city you're in-- it would be so easy to lie in your bed in the hotel and recover from the rigors of performing on the road. You are a role model in all ways, Shannon.
I am always looking forward to your videos and enjoying the vlog! It’s motivating me while creating presents! You could introduce Phill to us and how you two became an act 🎪 Happy holidays to everyone
I love crafting while watching your videos! Right now I’m sewing Frog Choir frogs for our kids’ theater group. They’re doing a Harry Potter dinner theater show this weekend. Like you, I’ve had to switch up what I was doing because the fabric I picked was visually perfect, but wrong for the project. Who knew it would be impossible to hand sew? 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ O now I’m starting the frogs over (I had the machine parts done,) with new fabric and my son’s casting as a very short professor was just added on. So now I’ve got 2 frog puppets and a professor costume to make for their show on Saturday- lots of sewing coming my way! :)
Excellent - Glad you got to get a taste of Savannah. I lived in Savannah for 6 years, moved back to Tampa area but my daughter still lives there, she loves it. I really enjoyed all the historic buildings and quirky oddness about the town. The book, Midnight in the Garden of Evil was based on events that happened there, and filmed there. The pub you show in the beginning of the video - Six Pence Pub - was used in the film with Julie Roberts - Something to talk about. One of the best walking Haunted Pub Crawls starts at Six Pence also and is well worth taking. The doors - I know it must of been frustrating to not be able to full fill your part, but I bet most of the audience didn't notice.
That description for the book called the god of endings looked so good I bought the book. Thanks for this video. It was very nice to see what you're up to and I really enjoyed the tour of Savannah.
I knew you would like Savannah. I didn't want to say anything about the trees so you would be surprised. 😸 That bookstore is great!!! And I love the Dooreography!!!
Loving the vlogs. So much fun. I am being very ambitious this holiday; I got my 7 year old niece fairy wings that she loves, she then watched a clothing design show, and voila she designed a dress to go with her wings. I am her crazy aunt who is going to try to make this for Christmas. 🤪wish me luck it’s my biggest sewing attempt. What was I thinking?!😂😂
You were thinking how happy your niece is going to be when she sees the costume! You are a good aunt. Really. I had one of those and she made my life much better!
I think you should do it like the coloration on the first pattern you were working on. Do the top half one color and the bottom half the other. I think that would look better than front and back different colors.
Loved the tour of Savahana. Pecan pies and peanut butter candy are a special treat for us at Christmas time. I brought a couple recipes back from the UK last year that were a good addition to, shortbread and ginger cake. The funny thing is, everyone liked them but it was the traditional things I make that they wanted.
Everyone loves the old classics; it's part of the nostalgia of the season! Pecan pies are an absolute favorite for me, although they're more of a general fall thing than a specifically-Christmas thing... and now I want pie 🤣🥧
It was meant for sewing things, but every time we move there’s this hot mess of mist lost things, and I wanted to get that sorted. So the keys and the propane regulator and all the batteries and things are in the tool kit.
The company I currently work for originates and is based out of Savannah Georgia. Your explorations are lovely to watch, when I go places I’m so task oriented if I don’t have a list prepared I tend to just drive home😅. As for the yarn, I like contrast, 2 or 3 colors even when the pattern only calls for 1. But I say do whatever makes you happy. Though it does strike me as funny that crafts will always cause shenanigans no matter what one tries lol. The wall art is so fun! It’s like a timeline wall. And you handled that stage hiccup with such grace. Thank you for sharing ❤
I love your videos. And when you tell us about your tours, and your work outside of your sewing and crafting, I really enjoy a look into a different world than I will ever experience. You have built a interesting life for yourself that looks so much fun and very exhausting.. oh, and terrifying.
oh gosh. as a sometime stage hand and assistant stage manager, the stress of those moments in a show, especially at the top of a show brought back a flood of memories. glad it was only a locked door and not something catastrophic :) as for holiday recipes, i've made the first batch of the season of Julekage! Norwegian Christmas bread! and i decided to make it with cardamom i ground myself and it was so worth it! i'm looking forward to making more to give to freinds this weekend. absolutely loved the video, and wishing you safe travels and good audiences at every venue!
What a beautiful city! And so you're knitting 2 sweaters, more or less - the knitting process is there for you and the project will get figured out later. Gingerdoodle cookies and rum balls - sometimes just the cookie baking smell is part of the holiday however you can get it. Here's to improvising!!
I am so enjoying these vlogs!! Savanna looks like a beautiful place to visit. And My goodness, that bookstore is absolute perfection! I guess learning to knit anything beyond a scarf is out the window for me! My math skills end at about a fourth grade level. Very embarrassing, but true. If you are willing to buy more yarn for the blue sweater you could have it shipped to a theater or hotel down the road. I love that new sweater so far !! I’m not baking today, but I am making my annual batch of Jalapeño Jelly. I usually make about 12-18 jars. I give it as hostess gifts or if I’m asked to bring an appetizer or snack. Served with Wheat Thin crackers and cream cheese……YUMMY! If you are interested in the recipe, let me know. Happy to share.
That bookstore looked amazing. My wallet would be screaming if I walked into it. I love books (worked in libraries for over 20 years). And there are cats! I feel your pain about the yarn. Been there, done that--and whimpered. You are a braver soul than I. If a stage mishap had to happen, that was the kind you want. No one hurt, show not derailed, and makes for a funny/cute story. Holiday baking coming up: mincemeat cookies, soft gingerbread, popovers, maybe even a Marlborough pie.
*runs off to google "Marlborough Pie* and yes, that bookstore was SO amazing... and I've been searching for more on our travels, trying to get the partner book to the one I grabbed, and I have not found the book, but I HAVE found more bookstore cats, so I still call it a win!! 😹
@@ShannonMakes There's just something about bookstores and cats that just feels right. Marlborough Pie is also sometimes called Marlborough Pudding. The recipe I have is from the Old Sturbridge Village cookbook. We had it once at OSV and it was delicious.
What a funny story! You told it so well that I felt like I was there! Lol. As far as baking goodies goes, I'll be making blueberry muffins with my sourdough starter! Love these vlogmas videos!
I love your vest idea, Shannon...great recovery and another interesting vintage pattern! You'll find the right yarn for the pullover and then you'll have 2 beautiful garments. Loving the circus clips...I would totally go see this fun theatrical Christmas production !
Thanks for the yarn explanation and visit to Savanah which looks rather interesting. I lived in the US for 3 1/2 years and came to loathe the identikit towns I saw . Unless you put something up tomorrow I will catch the rest of vlogmas after I return from a month virtually visiting Scotland which is my novelty for this Midwinter. Virtual holidays involve only reading books, watching videos set in, eating foods from, dressing suitably for , indulging in activities suited to the place you are visiting. So no feast at Midwinter but on New Years Eve. Whisky not brandy ,shortbread, Arbroath smokies etc. Knitting some fairisle socks from homespun home dyed wool. Outings to Art galleries while virtually in Edinborough and climbing the mountains when virtually in the Highlands. All without leaving Wales thus avoiding all the stress of traveling at the holliday season. I have a collection of postcards to send friends which a client sent me from Scotland. Last year I travelled virtually to Paris for just a week the year before that Athens. Environmentaly friendly and in these times so easy .
I usually find out I miscalculated about halfway, lol. I’m glad you enjoyed Savannah, I love Charleston too! Sounds like you handled doorgate like a pro.
Oh no! I've worked with Drops Nepal before and was thinking it was quite a beefy yarn to use with those needles. Drops Flora and Drops Nord are other yarn options that should be compatible with Drops Alpaca when you go to try the pattern again.
Savannah is beautiful. My most favorite place in the world. Thankfully, I'm not far away and my best friend lives between Savannah and Tybee. I visit often. Enjoy your travels.
Oh Savanah looked and sounded wonderful! Ty for adding all the history to your tour.I'm allergic to cats but I enjoyed your trip to that special book store 🐱 Knitting hijinks, love your colours ❤ and both patterns , the way they are coming out. That you can improvise and not panic is great! 👍 I hope you will do a future segment on your makeup please. I have you envelope of fabric snips that I have sitting at my door but need an American stamp 😂🇨🇦💞🎄
I love bookstores they are one of my favorite places to visit in any new place I go. That one looked amazing! My kids are doing a solctice Christmas this year and are really focusing on homemade gifts, so I have been working almost every night on sewing up presents for them. I actually am making some vests for my theater kid because of your video of making your vest. I realized how simple a vest is, I really hadn't thought about it before, but they love vests, so really a perfect project for a gift.
Bookstores are such wonderful places... just found a lovely one in Dayton, OH too!! And in... oh boy... Davenport? The cities blend together, but the second one has kitties too!!
@ShannonMakes it would be amazing if you end up with a contract on the West Coast sometime, I would love to see you perform! Meet you and explore an awesome bookstore!
I like to make cookies for the winter holidays. I was in very bad health last year and couldn't do it, but I'm feeling much better this year and I'll probably make some thumbprint cookies. They're the kind of old-fashioned, simple cookies that I really like, and they're received very well by pretty much everyone.
So much packed into your vlogs. At least you kept your cool behind the door. I would have panicked for sure. Loving the knitting I think I like the blue green one the best.
I always make my husband’s fav dessert, Pumpkin Swirl Cheesecake. I think I’ll make Key Lime Bars and Double Chocolate Cookies too for the hols. Looking forward to hearing what you thought of the book. I’ve been thinking about getting it.
True, I totally could... Didn't even think of that idea! Something about the two colors on two sides really appeals to me though! Like someone else commented, I could be a completely different person coming and going 🤣🤣
Redecorated my craft room recently, cause I found an old Ikea corner desk, (BORGSJO that our neighbour gave away) that has a bunch of shelfs, so with help from my mom, we placed the previous craft table in the kitchen for a smaller one and now I have two separate desks which I can switch between if I'm crafting or watching
Thank you for taking me to places I may never see myself. I would have got stuck in the bookstore, so cozy and lovely. With your knitting, there are several option for knitting your sweater in two colours, front grey- back blue, or lower half grey upper half blue and all variations on this - just do what you want to wear. 😉
I'm so glad that despite all of the mishaps in knitting or in the shows you are still enjoying yourself and having fun. Finding small local bookstores, used or new, is always my favorite part of traveling too! Hopefully, you can find many more treasures like it elsewhere!
Hi, Shannon. Savannah is beautiful! I love both of the sweaters that you are working on… too bad about the yarn mixup😉 The door scene looks so gorgeous… so annoying that your door didn’t work! You made the best of it. I’m looking forward to the next Vlogmas🎄❤️
Ah! THAT kind of yarn trouble... I know the feeling 😂 I've not done that specific mistake (yet), but have a predisposition to make it! A few years back I was trying to knit a Norwegian jacket in two coloured pattern (the style is called 'kofte') using Drops Alpaca in fact (white and blue as well, lol) and I could(!) not(!) get the gauge right! Instead of 28 stitches/10 cm I consistently got 32. Suffice it to say the sleeves were basically tight like sausage skins 🤣 I finally managed it the next cold season, and I love it! So warm and cosy! Nepal is a very nice and warm yarn as well, I've made several sweaters with it perfect for cold winters! Just as a recommendation for future Canadian-winter-temperature-projects 😉 As for the door; good thing it wasn't supposed to go inward, as then you might have run right into it! But those things are the life of the stage, isn't it? Unexpected things happen! I love those little anecdotes of your! Have a happy continued tour!
I've been working on model socks! I got a book of sock patterns from the library and i'm making baby and child sizes in finer yarn with a smaller gauge than recomended, just to get a feel for sock knitting while only needing to use scraps of my handspun that aren't enough for anything else. I'm on my third one right now, and it's designed to look like a boot. I learned how to knit a garter toe for it ^-^
Omgosh I would have had to be drug out of that bookstore! It looked so cute. The cats are a bonus. I love reading. I have heard really things about Hooked, but I don't own a copy yet. I have been busy stocking back up on usable lengths of fabric off ebay. I got a bunch of really pretty fabrics that I can make some fun skirts with and a couple of dresses. I have a few projects for history bounding in mind that I want to make after I finish everyone's vests and christmas jammy pants. Then I have a stack of books to read through. I just bought Murtagh by Christopher Paolini. It's a continuation on the Eragon series. I have a few other books to read through as well but those aren't as exciting. Just a couple gardening books and a sewing boom. I have it in my head that I want to make a cotehardie so I bought the Mideval Tailor to help me out. In addition to TH-cam University 😉 have you tried making your own eggnog while you are on the road? It's really easy to make. You could make it with something like an immersion blender or even a milk frother. Neither take up very much space. You could probably even use an ice bucket form the hotel to put it in. Then you just need the ingredients .I found a recipe for eggnog fudge that I want to try, if I can keep everyone from drinking all the eggnog. Other than that that's the only fun holiday recipe I plan on trying this year. We don't do a lot of sweets and it's been a long time since I make fudge. So here's to hoping it will turn out OK. I can't wait to see how your sweater turns out. It may be something you have to pick back up when you get home. You and Chanelle can take another trip into that cute little yard store and get some more skeins of yarn. That will be fun too. Thanks for bringing us along on tour with you and sharing your experience with the prop failure in dooregogrophy 😂that was a cute little story. Looking forward to the next.
Wonderful Video! I really enjoyed all the behind the scenes parts, and I'm also a big fan of the backstage wall art! "Show Time Story Time" is great! lol! I got a little knot in my stomach when you were talking about the mishap! I've seen many mishaps in live shows, and my brain always jumps into "Let's fix this, STAT!!" lol! I think my favourite was when I was doing sound queues for a play called "The Drawer Boy" and I was *supposed* to play a tractor engine starting up. However I selected the wrong CD track (yes this was a while ago lol) so instead of the tractor, it was a banjo being played! 😨Luckily the actor on stage was quick on his feet, and he yelled "Put that banjo away, and start the tractor!" I felt horrible, but everyone else thought it was hilarious!
The bookstore (which I forgot to include the name of 😩) is E Shaver Booksellers on Bull Street in Savannah, and absolutely is with a visit if you find yourself in the neighborhood, even if it’s just to read the employee recs, and let the cats!!

I almost visited last time I was there but didn’t get a chance to go in 😫
That's going on my bucket list!
you are so0 cute and happy ❤
One of my favorite memories from theatre is when a set piece was going to fall over and an actor noticed and casually walked over mid-dialog like it was part of his blocking and just leaned against it. It looked natural and part of the scene. The scene ended minutes later but it was perfect and saved me, the stage hand, from running out of the wings to stop it from falling. I loved him in that moment. I later thanked him for the scene. I'm glad to know even professionals have minor issues. I'm glad no one was hurt.
love that!!
I am beyond impressed how you find the mental fortitude to vlog and produce content in the middle of everything that is happening! Amazing!
It never occurred to me that circus artists would be excellent tree climbers - but it explains so much 😂
♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
I saw the show last night in Green Bay Wisconsin. I was so thrilled to see you and Phil do your hoop and lamplighter acts. It was such a thrill to see the show! Loved it!!! Have a really wonderful Christmas. Thanks for an entertaining evening. ❤

You said, "Would it be really weird to have a jumper that was . . . one color on the front and one color on the back?" My immediate response, "Not for you." I love your uniqueness.
LOL love that!
The two-color vest is quirky but I hope you try it! You can be a different person coming and going!
That’s literally the best way to put this concept, and I love it 😂😂
Thanks for the story about your snag with the door prop!
Thank you
You're going to love the Detroit episode then 🤣🤐🧵
The joys of live theater! :) Like the time the supporting actor broke his wrist two days before opening (it was The Play That Goes Wrong, so it somehow... worked).
@@ShannonMakes can’t wait!
@@ShannonMakes
I’m in Detroit, and would LOVE to see your show! SO bummed I missed it.
🇦🇺♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄🇦🇺
OK so I totally heard Dumbledores or possibly Dumbell Doors, and being a non-native speaker, I was so excited to find another hidden pun in Potter names... The second time I listened, you very clearly said Double Doors. Clever editing, maybe magic? ;-)
I’ve just finished baking round one! I make cookies and mail them to out of state family and give them to friends ,employees and service providers. Then I do another round to gift to family on Christmas Day. Chocolate chip, peppermint snaps, oatmeal, and double chocolate brownie cookies are what’s been made so far.
🇦🇺♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄🇦🇺
The book store with the cats looked so lovely! Would also spend hours in there if given the chance! Talking about pets - what happens to your little fur ball when you're on tour for so long?
I was just wondering the same thing!
I love the idea of the reversible jumper! Go for it!
Oooh, I haven't thought that it could be reversible! It sounds like an amazing idea, I hope Shannon would do it, it would be like 2 jumpers in one!
oh yes that was the whole idea! The pattern is originally reversible, but I must have edited out the part where I said that 🙊
This has been such a fun vlog! I really enjoy seeing independent bookstores and historical districts! Also it's always fun to hear some theater stories!
thank you! ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
I would happily buy you yarn but I'm unemployed right now. When I have a permanent job I will definitely help you. Merry Christmas.
I think a reversible jumper would be great and those colors are beautiful together, so go for it. Two for the effort of one.. it’s a bargain of a project!
Right!?!? 💙🤍💙🤍
Thank you!
Huh, that's so interesting, I had never heard of that concept before!! ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
♥️🎄♥️
♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
I love the backstage mishap story! Savannah seems like a beautiful city to visit. I’ll have to add it to my list.
It definitely is, worth the visit!
Thx fir the great mini-tour of the historic downtown of Savannah! Fun!
Kudos to you for working through the door mishap with professional grace & humor, Shannon.👍💪❤️
Glad you enjoyed it!♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
"Historic Steps: Use at own risk" is a sign I feel we should have seen on the Casse-Cou steps in Vieux Quebec on my 8th grade trip in the mid 80s 😄
(Though I seem to recall crossing the street was more dangerous than the staircase...)
⚜️⚠️⚜️
There definitely were many tours that looks so intriguing!!
Ah! We went to that theater when I worked for a dance competition, and I adored the wall art backstage!
Wow, that's so fun! What a coincidence!
Thank you for VLOG4 - I miss performing, but I don't miss the "oopsies" that can happen!! LOL
As to what I'm working on ... firstly, I am currently participating in a vintage crochet challenge (courtesy of @JustVintageCrochet). And also Xmas baking (fruit mince pies, White Christmas, Xmas Coconut Ice, and Hedgehog Xmas Trees ... oh, and chocolate truffles, from the Xmas Trees offcuts [if my husband doesn't eat them all first]!)
Enjoy the rest of the tour, travel, crafting, etc. - it's lovely to see someone who enjoys pretty much everything they do!!
Thank you! ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
Also, a jumper that's two different colors sounds so adorable that I immediately want to take inspiration from your idea and knit one for myself.
do ittt!!
I love that!! And yes, of course you can send a photo!!
Handled like a pro! 🤩
I crocheted a beanie hat today! (Well, started last night but could only get the band done before bed.) Lovely hound's-tooth stitch pattern I found on Rich Textures Crochet's channel -- shout out to her for such a beautiful and easy to follow pattern! 🥰
Love the bookstore! Loved the shots of Savannah. Love the idea of a two color jumper. And, life requires math!
❤❤❤ from another Canadian
you're welcome!! ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
Hands down my favourite vlogmas! Enjoying *traveling" with you and the behind the scenes stories.
♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
I'm sewing my dress for work Christmas party in 3 days. I've been working on since mid November, it's taking much longer than I thought it would, especially fitting... Send positive thoughts please :)
I'm curious to see the knitting that you're working on. It's starting to look great, so whichever way you decide will be lovely:)
You got thisss!!
I have been gathering all the bits and bobs for your Victorian knitting bag and have to say thrifting these treasures has been fun. You were so cool under pressure on stage I greatly admire that! Hope your Christmas tour goes well !
Love that, thrifting is SO much fun!!!
I think it's fantastic that you get out and explore the city you're in-- it would be so easy to lie in your bed in the hotel and recover from the rigors of performing on the road. You are a role model in all ways, Shannon.
♥️🎄♥️
I am always looking forward to your videos and enjoying the vlog! It’s motivating me while creating presents!
You could introduce Phill to us and how you two became an act 🎪
Happy holidays to everyone
♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
I love crafting while watching your videos! Right now I’m sewing Frog Choir frogs for our kids’ theater group. They’re doing a Harry Potter dinner theater show this weekend.
Like you, I’ve had to switch up what I was doing because the fabric I picked was visually perfect, but wrong for the project. Who knew it would be impossible to hand sew? 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
O now I’m starting the frogs over (I had the machine parts done,) with new fabric and my son’s casting as a very short professor was just added on.
So cool that you know the place so well!!
Brilliant Savanah, I enjoyed visiting there and currently I'm cross stitch ing a River Road sampler from there!!!❤❤❤❤❤
What a whirlwind tour! I visited Savannah recently only for a day, and it was just so beautiful! I wish I had more time, though. 😢
yea, I know the feeling... I only had 2.5 hours!! ♥️🎄♥️
Maybe on the sweater, you can knit a few edging rows of the contrasting color on each side to tie them together. Fun stories and great improvisation!
thank you! ♥️🎄♥️
The book store looked amazing! Books and let's what more can you ask for?!?
Maybe backstage story time for title. Glad to hear it all worked out!
That description for the book called the god of endings looked so good I bought the book. Thanks for this video. It was very nice to see what you're up to and I really enjoyed the tour of Savannah.
Glad you enjoyed it! ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
I knew you would like Savannah. I didn't want to say anything about the trees so you would be surprised. 😸 That bookstore is great!!! And I love the Dooreography!!!
♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
oh gosh. as a sometime stage hand and assistant stage manager, the stress of those moments in a show, especially at the top of a show brought back a flood of memories. glad it was only a locked door and not something catastrophic :)
as for holiday recipes, i've made the first batch of the season of Julekage! Norwegian Christmas bread! and i decided to make it with cardamom i ground myself and it was so worth it! i'm looking forward to making more to give to freinds this weekend.
absolutely loved the video, and wishing you safe travels and good audiences at every venue!
Sounds very tasty!!! ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
I'm looking forward to the crazy quilt stocking. A double sided jumper sounds like a lovely idea!
Right?! I am falling more and more in love with the idea!
What a beautiful city! And so you're knitting 2 sweaters, more or less - the knitting process is there for you and the project will get figured out later. Gingerdoodle cookies and rum balls - sometimes just the cookie baking smell is part of the holiday however you can get it. Here's to improvising!!
gingerdoodles sound lovely!! ♥️🎄♥️
Absolute perfection is right! Jelly sound delicious!! ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
@@ShannonMakes
There's just something about bookstores and cats that just feels right.
Love these vlogmas videos!
thank you! ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
Just made shortbread, meringue drops, and thumbprint cookies. Hand painting cards for gifts too. Thanks for these fun vlogs.
thank you ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
I love your vest idea, Shannon...great recovery and another interesting vintage pattern! You'll find the right yarn for the pullover and then you'll have 2 beautiful garments. Loving the circus clips...I would totally go see this fun theatrical Christmas production !
♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
Hope you're having fun with your Virtual holiday!!
Shannon you could always color block it like you were going to do the first sweater. :) Make the bottom half the grey and the blue for the top half?
Tasty baking is next week... I'll be making Kahlua Chocolate Cake. :) (With decaf coffee instead of Kahlua... lol )
love that! ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
Thank you!
Savannah is beautiful. My most favorite place in the world. Thankfully, I'm not far away and my best friend lives between Savannah and Tybee. I visit often.
Enjoy your travels.
♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
Oh Savanah looked and sounded wonderful! Ty for adding all the history to your tour.I'm allergic to cats but I enjoyed your trip to that special book store 🐱 Knitting hijinks, love your colours ❤ and both patterns , the way they are coming out. That you can improvise and not panic is great! 👍 I hope you will do a future segment on your makeup please. I have you envelope of fabric snips that I have sitting at my door but need an American stamp 😂🇨🇦💞🎄
♥️🎄♥️ thank you!
They're the kind of old-fashioned, simple cookies that I really like, and they're received very well by pretty much everyone.
nom nom nom!! ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
So much packed into your vlogs. At least you kept your cool behind the door. I would have panicked for sure. Loving the knitting I think I like the blue green one the best.
♥️🎄♥️
Thank you!! A really beautiful bookstore would love to go there one day ❤
definitely worth a visit!
I always make my husband’s fav dessert, Pumpkin Swirl Cheesecake. I think I’ll make Key Lime Bars and Double Chocolate Cookies too for the hols. Looking forward to hearing what you thought of the book. I’ve been thinking about getting it.
those all sound delicious!!
You could use the same color scheme as the first one; one skein color on the bottom and the other on the top. It will be lovely, regardless!
True, I totally could... Didn't even think of that idea! Something about the two colors on two sides really appeals to me though! Like someone else commented, I could be a completely different person coming and going 🤣🤣
Love your cozy fireplace!
Thank you!! 🔥🔥
♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
Thank you for taking me to places I may never see myself. I would have got stuck in the bookstore, so cozy and lovely.
With your knitting, there are several option for knitting your sweater in two colours, front grey- back blue, or lower half grey upper half blue and all variations on this - just do what you want to wear. 😉
You are so welcome! And yes, many many options!!
I think the idea to look around the door was a great idea! It was likely viewed as a comedic cameo by the audience.
LOL ok, I love that reframing of the situation 🤣🤣
Oh wow, Savannah is gorgeous!! I need to put that on my list of places to visit ❤
You should! ♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
I'm so glad that despite all of the mishaps in knitting or in the shows you are still enjoying yourself and having fun. Finding small local bookstores, used or new, is always my favorite part of traveling too! Hopefully, you can find many more treasures like it elsewhere!
So far, I've had pretty good luck with cute corners of the cities we visit!
Oh thank you! And I promise, the knitting saga is not quite done yet, lol!!
Just as a recommendation for future Canadian-winter-temperature-projects 😉
As for the door; good thing it wasn't supposed to go inward, as then you might have run right into it! But those things are the life of the stage, isn't it? Unexpected things happen! I love those little anecdotes of your!
Have a happy continued tour!
♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
This really made my want to visit Savannah, I won't be climbing any trees though 🤣
I learned how to knit a garter toe for it ^-^
Nice!!
Thank you, for being such a wonderful christmas elf. Be well
♥️🎄♥️🎄♥️🎄
I love the snip of the horse in the trailer!
Legitimately... I'd have spent ALL day there, happily!! Highly recommend Hooked (review of it in Monday's video)!
Here’s an idea….the top of each side, maybe just above the bust, switch to opposite color?
Quick & flexible thinking is part of the job! What separates the seasoned professionals from the more recent artists!
