I think BMW sat back watching the retro scramble craze by it's competitors and said "yeah, we can do better". I think the whole R9T is really interesting. I am more of a minimalist. These bikes just as functional motorcycles really stand out in the current day of over tech in motorcycles. They are definitely bikes you could ride off into the sunset with.
I bought a CB1000-R two months ago from Wisconsin 🙂 brand new 2019 Red one. On sale $10,000 down from $13,000. I bought it cash. I am a Honda guy 🤗 congrats to you Pal👏 😎🤙BMW is a quality machine. But i only prefer Honda & Triumph.
When I first saw the R nine T Pure, I knew this was the bike for me. I completely agree with your top 5 reasons for buying a BMW R nine T, except my top 2 would be the engine and exhaust sound. How I love the growling sound. If the looks don't turn heads, then the sound of the R nine T will. I live in Denmark where winters are wet and cold. So waiting for the summer to return can seem like an eternity. This one is a keeper. Even more so after I had a custom paint job done. Keep riding safe you guys and keep up the content, sidestand. 😊
Yes! Agree with the engine & exhaust notes, it's very distinctive. It should've been Top 6 haha. Thanks for watching & glad you're enjoying. What color did you end up painting it?
I bought my 2020 Pure in Spring 2020, put 4,500 miles on it last summer and love it more every ride. Simple, performance that keeps me connected to the riding experience is my feelings on this bike.
New subscriber, collected my 2020 R9T scrambler two weeks ago and can’t get the grin off my face. I agree with your top 5 absolutely, and find the dynamics of the bike match its looks. Coming off a R1200RT having cut back on my long distance touring, I find this bike perfect for riding the beautiful Adelaide hills here in South Australia. Cheers and stay safe 👍🇦🇺
Cool. I just rented one of these on a trip to LA. They didn't have the bike I requested so I got this one instead -- and I frikkin' loved it. Took me a while to learn, you gotta shift a lot sooner, keep the revs medium-low for greatest torque. At 85 mph, it just purrs in 6th, and you have ample passing power without downshifting. In the canyons, you can just leave it in 3rd gear, you have good engine braking and plenty of power to pull out of the turns. Very nimble handling on twisty roads or in city traffic. And the bike just looks and sounds so badass. I got a lot of compliments from other riders. I'm like, yeah I wish it was mine.
Your top 5 reasons plus a few more are why I bought an R9T Pure a couple months ago. I shopped many bikes and test rode several this year and finally decided on this one. I like it more every time I ride it!
Shift drives are not maintenance free. They're less maintenance. Every 100,000 miles you need to change the gear oil and the seals. I had a BMW K1200R from 2006, which i put 43000 miles on it and i never had an issue. I rode it for 5 years, commuted as I bought it used. I will say that the shift drive does need to get some heat into it for it to perform best. I liked riding and when I'd be out for 2 hours, at the end of the ride and on the way back(4+ hours) the feeling in the transmission and rear end, perfect shifts. The shift drive is amazing
first when I saw this bike was a year ago in Spain, and I couldnt stop looking at it:D. Right now I have a 89 Harley sportster, wich I have for 6 years now, I fixed a lOOOT of stuf on this bike, last maintance job was te carb, had it cleaned new gaskets, it started ....ran....every thing seemed fine, parked 20 min, wanted to leave, didnt start.......now its sitting in my garage for a good 4 months now....before that a year, over the last 6 years I pumped 4k in it...and still its sitting in my garage...good old Harleys....yea.....perhaps ill fix it one more time, and sell it ..its my 1st bike, so yea its a lill difficult, bud I want to have a R nine, looks fresh, better brakes better everything, sure turned my head for a good 10 min staring at it :D. cool vid man! sub!
Sidestand, I enjoy watching your videos. I agree with your reasoning on why to own a BMW flat twin. I own two older R1150R's and post ride videos on my TH-cam channel as well. While I live in Idaho, I recognize the streets, highways and canyons presented in your videos. I have close family in Granada Hills who I visit 2-3 times each year. We enjoy heading into the hills for hikes and to get away from the city. Stay safe.
Thanks for the sub. Might be some time before I'm able to travel out of state, unfortunately. Like many, I'm working from home at present, able to take short rides, but discouraged from doing out of state travel by my employer. I had several trips planned for summer that may not happen. Oh well. Keep sharing the videos.

You can find it here: www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/bmw-plastic-cylinder-head-cover-guards-r-nine-t-2014-2018?gclid=Cj0KCQjwhtT1BRCiARIsAGlY51KLSCuuZcf9dJVQbNDCX4ogDgK4LSf5dEkq-cN0BDqcTlAdLz9q05EaAuywEALw_wcB

So far since 2017 here in Ontario Canada I have never seen another Pure...It's cool I get so so so many people at stop lights and parking lots say my bike is cool. Funny thing is also the second pick I was going to buy was a Triumph T120 and I've never run into someone riding one.
@@sidestand Still glad I picked our bike the Triumphs are too top heavy when you have a bike like that for a while its the times when you have to wheel it about in a parking lot fighting balance is tiring...and our bike sounds awesome.
Do you think it would be good idea to get this beauty for cross country ? İ love it, the sound, handling, look soo beautiful. İf not this i will get 750 GS. Any idea ?

Keep it up Sidestand! Always enjoy your vids and positive vibes. One downside....your channel is costing me money 😂 Added a Rev counter to my 2019 Scrambler after seeing your video and currently making up my mind if I will go for the Oberon or Unit Garage handle bar mirrors...🤘
Hi! Would you recommend a BMW r nine t pure, a moto guzzi V7, or a royal enfield Continental GT 650. All timeless classics, and all have an amazing style and look. I’m torn. I know you’re probably in favor of the bmw obviously but I guess I’d just like your thoughts on this ! Can’t decide! Thanks! Mike
Love your channel my girl and I watch your episodes and feel alive...love your dialogue and style and your bike of course... we ride a 09 moto Guzzi V7 classic up her in Canada southern Ontario cheers
Cool jacket, I bought the brown version of the same one a few weeks ago after watching many reviews of other jackets. It came down to this one and the Klim Marrakesh. The Klim is fantastic but this revit was a lot less $ and from what I could tell would be cooler, which I need for Atlanta summers.
Oh I have a great idea!!! Let's spend $300+ on a new back tire and leave half of it on the side of the road... makes sense to me SMH. Could you do it with a mixer? Probably. But why? The fun is in the ride, not the show off. I had a 2008 R1200R. lots of similarities in power and handling. It wasn't the best in any category, but it was really great in many of them. And it made it so fun to ride!! I just bought a 2020 R1250RT Exclusive. Picking it up next week in Portland Or. when I get back home. But even still, I keep my eyes peeled for a R nine T or an older R1200R, just for that fun factor. They put a smile on your face without having to push it to its limits. I used to be into sport bikes. Mostly Kawasakis. The "fun" there was in the adrenaline rush from pushing it to the very edge. With the small boxers, you don't have to do that and still have a damn good time! Kinda like my little Mini Cooper. you dont have to drive fast and crazy, just to enjoy driving it. like a little go cart. I can't wait to pick up my new baby though!! I've been in Germany for almost 6 years. It's about time I came home and saw my own country for awhile!!
Hay Sidestand....I've been waiting for a vid from you. You do make me laugh. When I passed I was looking at the BMW RnineT or the Harley 883. I ended up with the Harely more for the price but I love the old school look but I keep lusting over the BMW. Soon as lock down gets lifted I'm head to the local dealer. Look forward to the 5 negatives if there are any haha 👍🏼
How does this compare to a T100/T120? I've got an XSR900 and absolutely love the bike, however the retro styling of the bonnevilles and that 270 degree twin, has got me considering a switch. Do you think it's a worth-while change? How does the R nineT compare to the bonnevile?
I've never ridden the XSR900 so it would be hard for me to compare. Against the Bonnie however, the nineT is much more confident inspiring around a mountain pass.
Deciding between the r9t and s1000r. I like the uniqueness but I feel like s1000 would be more nimble and better for city. What are your thoughts Also nice video, really enjoy your personality
I’ve test ridden the s1000r and also did a review on it here. It’s lighter & nimbler than the nineT, but both are completely different bikes. You can’t go wrong with either. Good luck with your choice!
Hey @sidestand nice video as usual, by the way just as a precautionary measure you shouldn't take your protective gloves by the bottom lip of them because you are sliding your thumb over your hand as you are taking them off, you should pinch at the palm over the glove. Keep safe and keep the shiny side up!
Hey, great videos and updates of your bike. I own a pure as well, change the color, and completely fall in love with it. Couldn´t agree more with you: I´m keeping this bike, I´m 47 and I don´t need anything else, perhaps a used GS for longer trips (I live in South America so road trips are quite cool). Keep up the good work and vibes!
Hey, I am considering buying this bike instead of a new monster but being used to the old Ducati Monsters, I don't know if I can get used to the sound and weight of the bike. It sounds more laid back if I have to describe it. Just can't ignore how good looking the Nine t is...
Ive been on the verge of buying this bike for the last 3 days! Wresting back and forth with the decision, it is just a bit pricey! I test drove this exact one a few days ago, but I am pretty sure I am going to buy it! Was the tail tidy hard to install ?
Cool retro, uncomfortable as hell, especially after 75 miles, fun bike if u have another bike like a goldwing, overpriced, cant do to much with a naked bike, killer looks, decent handling, no chain is nice, maintenance is not zero, final drive oil change requirements, check ur manual, you'll be on a r1200rt in no time, bars are wide, pegs are high, nice review though, had that bike hated it lol bought a r1200rt,
I just bought a r ninet and previously owned a triumph bobber. I think it's the same engine (tuned differently) as the speed twin. The bmw feels more powerful, but they're both great engines. I loved l the bobber. I'd still have it if I didn't crash...
I really appreciate the work you put into the great videos. I have a 2017 RnineT and love it. Is your kick-stand aftermarket? If so do you have a link to it? (Could have said side-stand I realize...)
Yes because this Quarantine shit is fucking stupid for a flu that's 96% survivable. Heart disease and cancer you should worry about, not a flu with a side effect of pneumonia
@@burtinator85 I literally just went on google earth and flew around, beautiful place but I see what you mean! If you ever find your way here, I'll be happy to ride with you through these mountains.
Yes use premium. It's in the manual, it's recommended from the factory, it's recommended by level 3 BMW certified technicians, use it. It's a highly engineered bike, not a Russian rifle. One small thing out of tolerance and it throws a fit
@@deadlyapollo Depending on the tune the bikes have different octane recommendations. My bike is a 2018 and it uses 87. I see the 2020 bikes recommend premium. My manual also states that using higher octane will decrease mileage and performance if higher octane is used. Go figure.
Best part of this bike is it's a gentlemen's sportbike. You can hang with the sportbike Bros, get respect by everyone because it's different, and can be the shittiest rider and still do well as the torque and powerband is just stupidly large
The biggest gripe for me being an Indian is that, can't own this beauty or the Z900rs :( It's ridiculously priced (26K $) and the after sales/service from BMW is a joke. :( Except Honda all other SBK manufacturers scam their customers here.
Why does this guy’s videos get so many down votes? What am I missing?
I appreciate your comment! Thanks for watching Ryan.
The top 5 reasons why he bought a BMW R nineT start at 3:19...
5. 3:29 - looks
4. 4:34 - shaft drive for maintenance

When you say “maintenance is absolutely ZERO on a shaft drive”. Make sure you change the fluid every once in a while (say 10k miles)

I don’t understand why you stopped at the petrol station?
I normally fuel up before any ride as a habit. I forgot I filled up on my last ride a while ago. Thanks for watching!
Will do! Thanks for the info! Ride safe.
how tall are you? i want this bike but am scared it will be too small. I'm 6' 2"
Is there a big difference between the brakes in the Nine T Pure compared to those of the original Nine T?
Thanks
Yes there is a difference. The original has radial brakes & the Pure has axial. Radially mounted brakes has some benefits l.
Thanks, will do!
Hey, I am considering buying this bike instead of a new monster but being used to the old Ducati Monsters, I don't know if I can get used to the sound and weight of the bike. It sounds more laid back if I have to describe it. Just can't ignore how good looking the Nine t is...
I have a thing for Ducatis.... but the nineT is timeless for me. One I'll add a Duc to my stable.
Ive been on the verge of buying this bike for the last 3 days! Wresting back and forth with the decision, it is just a bit pricey! I test drove this exact one a few days ago, but I am pretty sure I am going to buy it! Was the tail tidy hard to install ?
how's the reliability on that bike? I have not owned a BMW motorcycle before but had a bad experience with a 128i coupe.
I have had 3 BMW motorcycles. They are top quality German machines.
Sidestand, what kind of gloves do you wear? Because those are not the ones in the link in the description! Welcome back 🙏🏽
Thanks for the warm welcome! I need to remember to update that, but here is the link: www.retrobikegear.com/torc-beverly-hills-leather-gloves-red/
Beautiful bike bro
Cool retro, uncomfortable as hell, especially after 75 miles, fun bike if u have another bike like a goldwing, overpriced, cant do to much with a naked bike, killer looks, decent handling, no chain is nice, maintenance is not zero, final drive oil change requirements, check ur manual, you'll be on a r1200rt in no time, bars are wide, pegs are high, nice review though, had that bike hated it lol bought a r1200rt,
definitely a lovely bike! but for me it could be even more "modern classic" like theTriumph Speed Twin, have you ridden one?
stay healthy ✌️
Not yet, I'd like to test drive one of these days! Thanks for watching.
I just bought a r ninet and previously owned a triumph bobber. I think it's the same engine (tuned differently) as the speed twin. The bmw feels more powerful, but they're both great engines. I loved l the bobber. I'd still have it if I didn't crash...
a new video from you! amazing! now let's watch it...
Hope you like it! Thanks
I have my eye on the R Ninet. Question, what equipment do you use to record your vlogs?
I really appreciate the work you put into the great videos. I have a 2017 RnineT and love it. Is your kick-stand aftermarket? If so do you have a link to it? (Could have said side-stand I realize...)
Much appreciated lol! My "kickstand" is stock. I don't think I'll change it. Thanks for watching.
Love these videos and love the R NineT Pure. Any chance of a comparison with the Scrambler?
If I get a chance to test ride one I definitely will! Thanks for watching.
love the music! 🎶
Nice nice. What about comparison with the triumph speed twin?
I'd have to test ride it! Thanks for the suggestion.
Not to be rude, could you not use such a harsh brown filter for colour. Love your videos though haha
No worries! I appreciate the feedback. I think my newer videos solved this.
@@sidestand You're right bro, new videos look crispy!
Boxer for ever !!
Yaaaasss!
Totally agree with you eventhough the looks is subjective, I own r9t too, it's a great bike. Thanks for the video
No problem 👍
good bike i own the racer version but no were near the clasicss
The racer is an awesome bike. Thanks for watching!
You ever hit light trails in this bike? I live in southern California as well. I can't wait to get my motorcycle license
What brand of jacket are u using??
I love that under the gloves are.... more gloves!! Lol stay safe!
Always! Lol
i have a question is fit at 5'5 height?
You should be able to, the seat height is low enough.
We’ll see just how much use the R9T gets after you get your sport bike!
It’ll add variety to the channel!
This is kinda sad. The R NineT is the whoem reason I watch. Almost every other motovlogger rides a sports bike..
Don’t worry the NineT will get more camera time 😉
Only problem I have with them is the engine is so wide
Just casually almost dying at 7:33 😂😮
No kidding! Lmao
Is 12k miles on this engine a lot?
Not a lot....go for it
At 6:20 did you say “fuck all this separation bullshit” in reference to corona virus?
Yes because this Quarantine shit is fucking stupid for a flu that's 96% survivable.
Heart disease and cancer you should worry about, not a flu with a side effect of pneumonia
I was referencing to Moto prejudice. I think everyone should ride together no matter what bike you're on. Life's short, smell the roses 😀
sidestand ahh I see. I’m glad I checked. Thanks. Be safe.
87 octane?
So jealous at those mountains, everything is just flat here.
Ahh bummer..where are you from?
@@sidestand I'm from belgium, the north part which is pretty flat.
@@burtinator85 I literally just went on google earth and flew around, beautiful place but I see what you mean! If you ever find your way here, I'll be happy to ride with you through these mountains.
Intro and "GOOOOOOOD MORNING!!"
ME: Yea, imma subscribe to this
Does it burn oil ?
Thx
Not much!
@@sidestand thx. I read somewhere it did.
Then I read if u ride it like a race bike.
That’s probably valid during a track day. Through the canyons, I haven’t had any issues. Thanks for watching!
@@sidestand thx
hell yeah on #4 shaft drive is why I bought my Moto Guzzi
Right on! Your Moto Guzzi has alot of flavor! I test rode that & loved it. Thanks for watching.
How tall are you bro?
5’11”
Gonna buy this 'cause Tom Cruise rode this in Fallout
Haha yes!
When I bought my nine t I was told to use premium fuel
Yes use premium. It's in the manual, it's recommended from the factory, it's recommended by level 3 BMW certified technicians, use it.
It's a highly engineered bike, not a Russian rifle. One small thing out of tolerance and it throws a fit
hmmm..my manual says 87. 🤔
@@sidestand mines 93 and stated "will run on 87 but not recommended"
@@deadlyapollo Depending on the tune the bikes have different octane recommendations. My bike is a 2018 and it uses 87. I see the 2020 bikes recommend premium. My manual also states that using higher octane will decrease mileage and performance if higher octane is used. Go figure.
ur videos are simply the best! Send me a shout out on the next one.
Big fan!
OG subscriber! Right on Mat! I do need to do a shout video some day, there's several on my list. Thanks for staying with me 🙌
Best part of this bike is it's a gentlemen's sportbike. You can hang with the sportbike Bros, get respect by everyone because it's different, and can be the shittiest rider and still do well as the torque and powerband is just stupidly large
Roger that!
Does this engine make your legs toasty.?
No - but in the cold days you can keep your heels on the foot pegs and raise your front of the foot up and you have foot warmers :)
Octane 87...?? What the krauts think about that?
The biggest gripe for me being an Indian is that, can't own this beauty or the Z900rs :( It's ridiculously priced (26K $) and the after sales/service from BMW is a joke. :( Except Honda all other SBK manufacturers scam their customers here.
Dang..that sucks! If I had enough wealth in this world, I would buy you one. Real talk. Thanks for watching.
How tall are you???
5'11"
